Hello my darling darlings!
It’s Emma, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina, back from another incredible adventure! This week, I’m waltzing through the magical city of Vienna, Austria. And you guessed it – I’ve brought my trusty pink tutu along for the ride. 😉
Now, Vienna holds a very special place in my heart. Not just because of the exquisite architecture, the charming cobblestone streets and the delightful Viennese coffee, but because of its rich ballet history.
It’s impossible to speak of Viennese ballet without mentioning the Vienna State Opera, a magnificent edifice steeped in over 250 years of artistic excellence. The very air of this place is imbued with the spirit of some of ballet’s most illustrious figures – think of the iconic figures of Anna Pavlova, Rudolf Nureyev, and the incomparable Mikhail Baryshnikov, all who have graced its stage! And believe me, the performances are breath-taking!
This week, I saw the stunning "Giselle" performance at the Opera House, and it was an unforgettable experience! Giselle is a masterpiece, a romantic tragedy set against the backdrop of a 19th-century village. It was like watching a story come to life.
But even beyond the Opera House, ballet seems to seep into every corner of Vienna. The waltz, originally a ballroom dance, originated right here in Vienna. This city breathes ballet. There's something magical about stepping onto the street and hearing the waltzing music coming from the street musicians! I felt like I was in a scene from "The Sound of Music" for a minute. 😉
And of course, my adventure wasn’t just about ballet, it was about all the fabulous fashion Vienna has to offer!
One of my favourite finds was a tiny little shop tucked away on a side street. It was bursting with all sorts of treasures, and one of them was the perfect new tutu for my collection! It’s a soft lavender colour, adorned with delicate silver embroidery, and just the right amount of poof. I simply adore it! It's like the perfect fairy-tale tutu!
I wore this lovely lavender tutu for my next adventure: a scenic carriage ride through the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace Gardens. Can you imagine, twirling around in a beautiful lavender tutu amongst these glorious gardens! Pure bliss! I must tell you, taking a carriage ride is absolutely the best way to appreciate the grand beauty of the park, seeing all those lovely green leaves and flowers, oh and, of course, taking some great photos! And trust me, those gorgeous flower beds provided the perfect backdrop for some lovely pink tutu photo-ops!
I also spent an afternoon enjoying the breathtaking views of the city from the Vienna State Opera’s rooftop. There is something undeniably special about standing above the city and seeing all the tiny details, the soaring rooftops, and the bustling life below! I can truly recommend it. It really was a special moment!
Vienna has completely captured my heart! There is such a charm about the place, with its stunning architecture, delicious coffee and pastry shops, and incredible musical history. And oh, I almost forgot to mention - they even have shops selling little ballerina tutus for the tiniest little princesses, which is an absolute dream!
But let's be real, what truly stole my heart? A spectacular tutu store, bursting with colour and style, a shop fit for a queen. This place is a true testament to the magic of ballet fashion and a real must-visit for all tutu lovers. Let me just say, this shop was nothing short of a dream, it made me feel like a fairytale princess, twirling among rows upon rows of shimmering, beautiful tutus. The owner even let me try on a stunning red tutu that I fell head over heels for! It will have to make its way into my wardrobe sometime, for sure.
I spent the evening in one of the local cafes, taking a well-earned break, and of course, enjoying a slice of decadent Austrian apple strudel with a cup of steaming Viennese coffee. Vienna is a city that definitely caters to all the senses - with amazing smells, exquisite tastes, and sounds, including music around every corner.
It is no wonder they say that Vienna is the "City of Music", but it is also a city for ballerinas! It’s filled with inspiration, breathtaking performances, and, of course, the perfect shops for my tutu addiction!
Until next time, dear readers, stay radiant and never forget the power of a pink tutu!
Yours in ballet,
Emma 💖
