Vienna Calling! Pink Tutu Travels to the City of Music 🩰
Wednesday 22nd March, 2023 | Post #1455
Hello my lovely Tutu-ettes! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger Emma, bringing you the latest from the glorious city of Vienna, Austria! This week I'm swapping my Derbyshire dales for the Danube, my cobbled village lanes for cobbled Viennese streets, and my usual tutu-clad adventures for an exploration of the birthplace of waltzes and the Vienna State Opera.
Oh my darlings, you know I adore a good waltz! Just picturing the graceful twirls of the ladies, the dashing gentlemen, and of course, the oh-so-perfect tutus (with just a touch of pink, naturally!), fills my heart with joy.
This week I'm diving headfirst into the city's captivating cultural scene, and let me tell you, Vienna has been making me blush with excitement!
A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wonder
From the moment I arrived at the magnificent Vienna Central Station, it was a tutu-tastic journey. Imagine a soaring vaulted hall, gleaming marble floors, and an air of historical grandeur – I felt like I'd stepped onto the set of a lavish historical ballet production! I quickly boarded the charming Vienna Tram for a ride through the city centre. I love trams – there's something so whimsical about being whisked along the tracks, the sights of the city rushing past, and the gentle rhythm of the rails as the tram clicks along. And speaking of rhythm, oh how Vienna makes music!
Fashion, Fun & Food
Vienna's fashion scene is positively delightful. From the quaint boutiques filled with handcrafted accessories to the luxurious showrooms boasting elegant couture, the city oozes sartorial elegance. You can bet your bottom dollar I picked up a few new additions for my tutu collection – some stunning vintage pieces that are screaming "Viennese ballet history!" I especially fell for a beautiful blush pink tulle tutu that's perfect for swirling around the streets and soaking in the atmosphere. I simply had to have it.
Vienna, however, isn't just about elegant waltzes and high-fashion tutus, it's also about indulging your senses! Vienna's food scene is something to truly be savoured. Every corner offers delectable treats like strudels filled with apples, berries, or even a sweet cheese mixture, delicate coffee pastries called Sachertorten, and Wiener Schnitzel – that delicious, crispy fried veal dish that practically melts in your mouth. It's enough to make a ballerina's stomach do a grand jeté with joy!
A Cultural Tapestry
This week I spent hours strolling through the opulent Schönbrunn Palace, marvelling at the intricate gilded décor and envisioning princesses in ball gowns twirling through the ballroom. This magnificent palace, a testament to Habsburg power and splendor, provided the perfect setting for my imaginings. Speaking of imagining, let's not forget the captivating history of ballet itself. The Royal Ballet of Vienna boasts an incredible legacy, stretching back centuries. I couldn't leave without paying a visit to the Vienna State Opera – the largest and oldest opera house in Austria, renowned for its breathtaking performances and impeccable acoustics. Just picturing those iconic figures on stage, the glorious tutus swishing in the spotlight, gives me chills.
On a Horse Drawn Carriage, I Take My Ride
Oh, how I adore Vienna! Even a short ride in a horse-drawn carriage filled me with joy. Imagine a clip-clop against cobblestones, the rhythmic thudding of horses' hooves, a glimpse of a royal world through my carriage window - it was a fairytale experience that left me grinning from ear to ear. I almost had to ask them to take a little detour so I could leap out in the middle of the road and do a graceful pirouette!
My Vienna Favourites
Now, I wouldn’t be true to my blog or my pink-tutu persona if I didn’t tell you all about my favorite finds:
• The Schönbrunn Palace: Oh the majesty! The splendour! This grand, historical palace just takes you back to a bygone era of courtly balls and twirling tutus.
• The Museum of Art History: A beautiful neoclassical masterpiece filled with magnificent Renaissance and Baroque artworks - perfect for the aspiring artist within us all.
• The Vienna State Opera: A magnificent building where ballet, drama, and music meet - the true home of opera and ballet in Austria.
• The Vienna City Park: This green space provides a moment to pause, rest your legs, and soak up the beautiful greenery. It's a perfect place to bring a picnic or to go for a lovely stroll and watch the locals enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
A Ballet Extravaganza
This evening, I'm attending a breathtaking performance at the Vienna State Opera. Just thinking about those talented dancers, their costumes glittering under the stage lights, fills me with excitement! I've heard whispered tales of breathtaking artistry and a truly immersive theatrical experience, and I can’t wait to experience it myself. Of course, you can be sure I’ll be rocking my favourite pink tutu, making a splash in this city of romance and artistry.
Next Week: Budapest Calling!
Vienna has truly been an unforgettable experience – I'm still swirling from the excitement and romance of this stunning city! But it's time for a new adventure, and my sights are set on Budapest. A majestic city full of bridges, historic architecture, and the sounds of violins… Sounds just about perfect, doesn’t it? You can bet there'll be some fabulous outfits to photograph for the blog!
