Pink Tutu Vienna: A whirl of Viennese waltz and tulle!

Post number: 1454

Darling readers,

Greetings from Vienna! The city of music, waltzes and oh my, the coffee! Itā€™s so exciting to be in this magical city. I love coming to Europe and it was a joy to hop on the train from my darling Derbyshire to Austria, taking in the scenery as we trundled along. And to celebrate arriving in Vienna, I thought what better way to start than with a Pink Tutu Vienna Waltz. I dashed to the hotel and immediately changed into my pink tutu for this special dance (in the privacy of my hotel room of course!). Vienna is one of the few places I could actually waltz in public!

Vienna, a symphony of tutus

I'm feeling totally inspired by all the graceful ballerinas and dancers in Vienna. I must confess, after visiting the Schƶnbrunn Palace this morning and having a rather embarrassing incident in front of the statue of Empress Elisabeth I in which I fell over (so embarrassing!), I had to do something about it!

Vienna really is the waltz capital of the world. So I treated myself to an impromptu private waltz lesson this afternoon. My dear teacher was simply divine - a gentleman with such elegance! He explained to me about the tutus worn for waltzes in Vienna ā€“ very specific! ā€“ but Iā€™ll share more of those secrets with you next week, as it's so much more exciting to discover things bit by bit! It's just not the same getting everything at once. Donā€™t you think so, darling?

Shopping, Shows & Pink, oh my!

So, letā€™s just say I'm in my element! Iā€™ve discovered a lovely shop where Iā€™ve been browsing. It's so wonderfully pink ā€“ full of pink shoes, bags, tutus ā€“ all sorts! Vienna is a shopaholicā€™s dream.

And then there's the incredible ballet performances. Yesterday, I went to the Vienna State Opera and saw ā€œLa BayadĆØreā€ with the ballet of the Vienna State Opera. Honestly, it was beyond beautiful, it made me gasp, and gasp I did. I love opera, and even though this one was largely silent, it's so moving ā€“ it leaves you wanting to dance and sing (but in my pink tutu of course)! The music and the dancers were divine! I can't get the incredible choreography and stunning costumes out of my head. After the performance, I saw several of the ballerinas on their way to a ballet school in Vienna. I wish I could speak German fluently. Next week Iā€™m off to see some ballerinas in rehearsal, so hopefully Iā€™ll be able to chat with them and tell them about my amazing adventures wearing my Pink Tutu to places across Vienna!

And last but not least, there is the food in Vienna, oh my, it is truly delightful! Itā€™s all very pretty with a pink hue which I adore. Thereā€™s this fantastic Viennese apple strudel with cream and sprinkled with powdered sugar that's absolutely heavenly. This morning I treated myself to some delightful coffee in a lovely old cafe in the city centre and they had some delicious apricot tartlets which I couldnā€™t resist.

I simply cannot get enough of it all! My life has always been all about following my passion, about sharing my pink tutu journeys and hopefully encouraging everyone else to dance!

And remember darlings, life is too short not to wear pink tutus - especially here in Vienna, a truly pink city, where pink is the color of fashion, coffee and romance.

See you next Wednesday with more Pink Tutu adventures from Vienna!

Love always, Emma x

What to wear in Vienna:

Vienna is known for its elegance and stylish locals so embrace the charm of this fantastic city. Here are my top fashion picks:

  1. * Pink Tutus:* Essential, darlings! Every Pink Tutu princess needs to embrace a pink tulle number when visiting Vienna.

  2. Floral dresses: Opt for pretty floral designs. There is an air of elegance to a feminine floral print - perhaps a pink floral design?

  3. Sophisticated hat: The perfect accessory for Viennaā€™s parks, especially a straw boater with a pink ribbon.

  4. Embroidered tops: I find pretty embroidered blouses are very ā€˜Vienna-ishā€™. I also always wear some fabulous costume jewellery when Iā€™m in Austria. The Viennese do a great deal of delicate embroidery. I love browsing for beautiful embroideries in shops when Iā€™m here and a pretty embroidered piece in my Pink Tutu Vienna wardrobe would be absolutely divine.

  5. Ballet pumps and flat shoes: Comfortable ballet shoes in delicate colors, particularly pastel pink tones, will enhance that ballet aesthetic so necessary to the mood of Vienna.

Things to do in Vienna:

Thereā€™s plenty for every traveller in Vienna, but here is what you simply must do:

1. **Explore Schƶnbrunn Palace: Explore the palatial gardens where Empress Elisabeth I (Sisi) once enjoyed taking strolls, complete with beautiful flora. Be sure to take a stroll through the gorgeous manicured lawns, the zoo, the botanical gardens or, why not visit the Belvedere Museum?

2. **Go for a waltz: Learn from a professional how to waltz ā€“ Viennese waltz, naturally!

3. **Enjoy the culture: Opera, Ballet or both! Make sure to check out the Vienna State Opera, home to fantastic ballet and opera performances.

4. Shopping!: I just cannot recommend strongly enough the Vienna shops. There are so many fabulous boutiques filled with unique designs that every girl needs to visit.

5. Relax: The cafes of Vienna have such charm and sophistication and are the perfect place for relaxation and observation, soaking up the vibrant and lovely Austrian atmosphere. Enjoy coffee and delicious pastry while enjoying the buzz of the streets.

My 30 Favourite Tutus from Vienna

Itā€™s impossible for me to list them all so I thought I would give you my personal selection. Vienna has really surprised me and I love how they incorporate so many shades of pink, especially salmon and mauve.

Here are my 30 favorites - and it goes without saying, every one is in a different pink, as all great dancers know thereā€™s an infinite number of shades:

  • The pastel pink tulle skirt
  • The salmon tutu with frills
  • The soft pink silk tutu
  • The pale pink gauze tutu with sparkles
  • The fuchsia and pink ruffled tulle
  • The pale pink sequin and feather tutu
  • The ballet pink with salmon colored ribbon tutu

And now for some pink news from Vienna - what's hot and what's not:

  1. Pink flowers! ā€“ You simply cannot go wrong with these!
  2. Pink cake pops - Everyone in Vienna loves these, don't you worry - you can always find pink versions - they're everywhere!
  3. The pink Mozartkugeln (a Mozart chocolate confectionary) ā€“ These really are a pink-tinged Viennese tradition, which we must indulge in as they're the real thing and taste incredible.

  4. Whatā€™s Not?

    • Yellow - Viennaā€™s been doing this thing for ages - the only color I havenā€™t seen since arriving was yellow.
    • Black - This really is Viennaā€™s NO. Even though theyā€™ve done all the pastels and pinks, no black to be found anywhere. I'm pretty certain black will be the only color that never takes on a fashionable edge! And itā€™s probably a good thing, in my opinion - donā€™t you think?

There's so much to explore in Vienna and I'm still on a mission to find out more - about the local traditions, the fascinating tutu history and the Viennese waltzes, and to embrace this fabulous pink city. But remember, itā€™s always more fun to explore new places, so come with me next week.

I have plenty more to show you!

Love,

Emma xxx
