Darling readers! I'm writing this from Vienna! I know, I know! I always said Austria was a country on my list! Well, here I am, and I'm completely bowled over. The architecture! The food! And the shops... well, they're all absolutely fabulous! Oh, and did I mention the Opera House? You haven't seen elegance until you've seen the Vienna State Opera!
The journey from my lovely Derbyshire was a right adventure. A couple of days on the train - first to Brussels, then onto Frankfurt and finally to Vienna! You know I adore a good train journey! There's something about chugging through the countryside that really calms the soul.
Now, I have to admit, I had a bit of a fright getting off the train! Turns out, there were about a million suitcases rolling around. It was like a scene from Carry On...Somewhere Exotic! It did occur to me for a split second, that this wasn't quite my scene and perhaps a carriage ride would be much more refined. A bit of a worry, seeing as Vienna has quite a reputation for elegant sophistication.
Anyway, fear not, I wasn't fazed! I grabbed my bag and headed straight for the Hotel Sacher - a truly majestic place in the heart of Vienna, all elegant gold decor and ornate furniture. And just you wait until you see their Sacher Torte - a real decadent treat!
Before we delve into all the splendid delights of this wonderful city, let's talk about the main event: THE FASHION!
A Ballerina's Guide to Viennese Fashion:
Vienna is simply oozing with style, darling! From the elegant women strolling around in the most exquisite gowns, to the chic, modern young things rocking their latest looks. But honestly, nothing says Vienna like a dirndl. I mean, how fabulous are those flouncy skirts and embroidered bodices?! You'll see them on just about every corner and every shop window - even a couple of shops have had dirndl themed windows. My favourite part? They're usually adorned with huge flower garlands! Honestly, it's a fairytale!
Speaking of fairytales, darling readers, guess who spotted a dirndl she absolutely loved?! It's PINK with delicate lace and a touch of black for a subtle contrast. Let's just say it’s an absolute dream, and it is already firmly on the "must buy!" list. I have to make room for it in my luggage!
Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a splendid ballet performance. I absolutely adored the performance at the Vienna State Opera. It was a revival of a classical ballet from 1933, based on the famous Strauss waltzes! Honestly, you can’t beat the poetry of ballet when it's done right! Every step felt effortless, every pirouette flowed beautifully, and those costumes, oh darling! Each ballerina wore a tutu fit for a princess, all graceful tulle and flowing ribbons.
This got me so excited! You see, my dear friends, while ballet is my ultimate love, I do think about other things in life, you know, the everyday, real-life stuff!
You can see I’m already daydreaming of dancing the waltz through the streets of Vienna in my own pink tutu. Just imagine, darling! Picture me: a vision of pink perfection with a fluffy tutu swirling as I glide down the cobblestone streets... I swear, it's already happening!
And speaking of tutu's - you wouldn’t believe it! While I’m dreaming of pink tutus and elegant waltzes, this beautiful city of Vienna also boasts a tutu museum!
Yes, darling, it's actually a real thing! I was thrilled to hear about the “Vienna State Ballet Museum", nestled right inside the stunning opera house! And what did I find inside? A whole room dedicated to tutues! All shapes, colours and sizes, dating all the way back to the early days of the ballet! Honestly, every fashion-obsessed ballerina's dream! I was simply mesmerized by the evolution of this most beautiful piece of dance attire. My trip would simply not have been complete without visiting this remarkable space!
