It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another peek into my exciting week in the magical city of Vienna! I hope you're all settling in with a cup of something delicious and ready for a whirlwind adventure through pink tulle, historical grandeur, and, of course, the enchanting world of ballet.
From Derbyshire to Vienna - By Train & Tailored Suitcase!
Now, if you've been following along for a while, you'll know I'm a true romantic at heart. I adore the slow journey of travelling by train, especially through the heart of Europe! This week, I packed my pink tutu (naturally), my trusty little suitcase stuffed with fabulous outfits (don't worry, they're all perfectly coordinated with my tutu), and set off on a leisurely train ride to Vienna. It was pure magic watching the scenery glide by, especially as the sun set, painting the rolling hills in a vibrant pink - just like my tutu!
A Symphony of Style in Vienna's Heart
Speaking of pink, have you ever noticed how it just seems to glow under Vienna's beautiful old architecture? There's something incredibly chic about juxtaposing the blush hues of my tutu against the warm, ochre tones of the buildings. It's a feast for the eyes! And let's not forget the elegant, centuries-old cafes with their ornate furniture, gilded mirrors, and that distinctive Viennese charm.
Now, as you know, Vienna has a rich cultural history. Today, my little pink-tutu-clad self embarked on a mini fashion expedition. I found myself drawn to the trendy boutiques on Kohlmarkt. The colours, the designs, the craftsmanship - simply exquisite! You wouldn't believe the fabulous pink accessories I discovered! It's amazing how this vibrant colour can just uplift any outfit. Trust me, a touch of pink goes a long way!
Stepping Back in Time - Tutu History & the Waltz's Grand Origins
This week, I also indulged in a little ballet history lesson. You know me, I just can't resist a chance to learn more about the intricate stories behind the tutu! The Hofburg Palace, a grand imperial residence, was home to generations of Hapsburgs, patrons of the arts who commissioned spectacular ballets for their lavish courtly affairs. Imagine dancing in the magnificent halls, where emperors and empresses once walked!
This week, I even visited the Staatsoper - Vienna State Opera. As soon as I stepped through those imposing doors, the atmosphere was simply electrifying. I could feel the legacy of grand ballet traditions! Just seeing the theatre's magnificent facade is enough to spark the imagination. It was fascinating to hear about how ballet transformed from courtly entertainment into the sophisticated art form we know and love today.
Waltzing with the Stars: A Ballet Showcase of Magical Proportions
This weekend, I had the most fabulous time watching the Vienna State Ballet perform Swan Lake. The performance was captivating! From the breathtaking set designs to the ballerina's intricate steps and delicate costumes, the entire production was an absolute dream! The grand, elegant waltzes were like dancing in a cloud of beauty. It felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale! And it had me completely smitten with the story of Odette and the curse cast upon her by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart!
But this week wasn't all about performances, I managed to sneak in a visit to the Wiener Staatsoper Ballet School! These talented youngsters have such poise and elegance, they are like miniature ballerinas from a dream!
On the Path to Spreading the Pink Tutu Gospel
After all the excitement of the week, I decided to have a little stroll through the Stadtpark, taking in the fresh air and enjoying the peace and quiet of Vienna's green oasis. What did I notice? Well, wouldn't you know it, there were two children dancing gracefully around a little statue in the park. I couldn't help but grin - maybe they'd even heard the whisperings of the Pink Tutu Gospel. I believe there is a magical tutu for every girl, waiting to be discovered!
My Favourite Viennese Bites!
No trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in some of its famous delicacies! This week, I treated myself to some divine Sachertorte, that gloriously rich chocolate cake. A cup of Viennese coffee perfectly complemented the rich flavour of this delicious treat! You have to try it for yourself! Vienna really does offer something for every taste!

This week in Vienna has been full of delightful discoveries! Next week, I’m exploring more of this fascinating city.
