Vienna, Vienna, oh how I love thee! Post #1497 šŸ©°šŸ’–

Well, hello my darling tutu-lovers! Emma here, writing to you from the most enchanting city in the worldā€¦ Vienna! I simply cannot get over the stunning architecture, the charming cobbled streets and the air of romance that permeates every corner.

I've arrived on a gloriously sunny Wednesday (and as you all know, a Wednesday is the only day I post my travel blog!) The train journey was a dream - I wore my new pink sequined tutu from Derbyshire's finest vintage boutique, which, let's be honest, made my fellow travellers feel a little more joyful, a little more fabulous, and I even got a few smiles from the rather stoic-looking conductor!

And now, Vienna has welcomed me with open arms (well, perhaps a slightly frosty arm because it is January and it's a little chilly!). I'm staying in the most darling boutique hotel just off the Ringstrasse. Everything is painted pink and white, the staff wear adorable matching outfits and they even serve pink prosecco at breakfast! They know their audience. Pink tutu-clad Emma has definitely found her happy place!

But before we dive into all the Parisian delights of Vienna (including a shopping spree, of course!), letā€™s talk ballet. Did you know that Vienna is considered the cradle of Viennese classical ballet? And I, my dears, am absolutely smitten!

Today, I indulged in an afternoon of ballet heaven at the Vienna State Opera. This magnificent building, an architectural masterpiece adorned with glittering chandeliers and a truly grand ambiance, had the perfect programme to kick off my Viennese ballet journey: The Nutcracker!

As Tchaikovskyā€™s enchanting melodies filled the air, I found myself whisked away to a world of magic and wonder. The dancers, effortlessly graceful, soared across the stage with a passion and beauty that left me utterly spellbound. From the delicate pirouettes to the impressive leaps, every move was a feast for the eyes. And, let's not forget, the costumes!

I know what youā€™re thinking ā€“ the Sugar Plum Fairy's costume, right?! A delightful explosion of sugar-coated pastels and tulle that could rival any fashion show! And then the snowflakes, shimmering like frozen droplets of magic in their ethereal white costumes ā€“ simply breathtaking. It was almost enough to make me want to put down my pink tutu and join them on stage, but let's be realisticā€¦ I think the Vienna State Opera may have slightly higher standards!

Later this evening, Iā€™m going to delve deeper into Viennaā€™s ballet history with a visit to the Museum of Theatre History. They have a fabulous exhibition dedicated to the history of ballet, the costumes, and the iconic figures who shaped the art form. Oh, how I adore delving into history, especially when it involves tutus, dancing and glamour!

After the museum, it's a quick stroll over to the Volksoper, where Iā€™ve nabbed some tickets to ā€œCinderella,ā€ another classic ballet with an equally enchanting story and some stunning costumes. I am particularly interested in trying to locate the designer. Maybe I could get a custom-made tutu just like the one she created! After all, my mission is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu - it's going to take some fancy, inspiring couture, donā€™t you think?

Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Vienna without some delicious Austrian delights. Iā€™ve heard rumours of ā€œSacher-Torteā€ at Hotel Sacherā€¦and you all know Iā€™m obsessed with all things sweet and decadent! And then thereā€™s Viennese Coffee ā€“ Iā€™ve read that a "Fiaker" coffee is a perfect pick-me-up, which means I must get one! And perhaps some Apfelstrudelā€¦you can't visit Vienna without indulging in a slice or two, right?

But my dearest tutu-loving readers, there's a lot more to discover in Vienna than just ballet and sugary treats (although let's be honest, that is a pretty good combination!). I plan to wander the grand imperial palaces, get lost in the museums, stroll along the Danube, and even try my hand at riding a Viennese Fiaker, one of their iconic horse-drawn carriages!

So, keep an eye on this blog, as I'll be sharing my Viennese adventures all week! Iā€™ll be showing you the chicest cafes, the most charming boutiques and, of course, the stunning costumes Iā€™ll be adding to my pink tutu wardrobe! I may even give a tutu-wearing waltz lessonā€¦ stay tuned!

And, remember my darling readers, never forget to embrace your inner ballerina!

See you soon,

Emma xoxo šŸ’–šŸ©°
