Vienna Waltz: A Whirlwind of Pink in the City of Music (Blog Post #1500)

Hello my lovely pink-loving readers! It's Wednesday, which means a brand new post from your favourite tutu-wearing traveller - that's me, Emma! And guess what? This week, I'm in Vienna, Austria!

It’s always a thrill to hop on the train – I’m a huge fan of travelling by rail, you know, just like those Victorian era ballerinas, gliding along like elegant swans. But my journey this time was even more magical. After a show at The Derby Theatre back home in Derbyshire, I decided to splurge on a ride in a horse-drawn carriage straight from the fairytale. It felt absolutely divine, like something out of a romantic ballet, and let me tell you, it made me want to twirl my tutu even more than usual!

And let's talk Vienna. I’m here because, well, it's pretty much the capital of classical music and ballet! I felt the history practically buzzing in the air as soon as I stepped off the train. From the iconic opera house to the historic palaces, everything is dripping with elegant grace and stunning architecture.

I haven't even begun to explore all the hidden gems in this beautiful city yet, but let me tell you, it's a real dream for a pink-obsessed ballerina! The shops are bursting with the most gorgeous pastel hues, from whimsical tutus to elegant evening gowns.

Speaking of tutus… did you know Vienna is actually a treasure trove of tutu history? I was particularly excited to see the Vienna State Opera’s costume archive, a place where I got to see tutus from iconic ballets like “Swan Lake,” "Giselle" and "The Nutcracker." It was like stepping back in time – a ballerina's paradise!

One of the highlights of my visit has been the incredible Vienna State Opera itself. I finally managed to snag a ticket to a stunning production of "La Bohème." It was an unforgettable evening of captivating performances, rich melodies and breathtaking costumes. And what made it even more special? Well, of course, it involved pink! The entire audience erupted in applause as the lead ballerina gracefully glided onto the stage, wearing the most fabulous pale pink tutu adorned with delicate hand-sewn sequins.

Let's be honest, the beauty of ballet doesn’t just lie on the stage; it’s everywhere you look. Vienna's streets themselves are a masterpiece of ballet-inspired architecture. I just love strolling through the park, imagining myself waltzing in a delicate tutu, twirling amongst the graceful willows and elegant sculptures.

I can’t resist a little ballet-inspired fashion while I’m here either. One day, I even braved a performance at the open-air Volksoper. Imagine: me, twirling under the twinkling stars in a sparkling pink tutu, amongst the lively Vienna crowds! It felt absolutely magical.

But beyond ballet, Vienna is also home to some of the most vibrant street performances I've ever seen. From talented musicians busking in the cobblestone alleys to the lively street theatre groups showcasing their stories in unexpected corners, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the enchanting energy of the city.

Pink Touches

And naturally, my pink-tutu adventures in Vienna have been abundant! Here's a quick peek at my latest pink finds:

  • A custom-made blush-pink ballet slipper keychain from a charming little artisan shop nestled near the Hofburg Palace. (A must-have for any ballerina on the go!)
  • A pair of gorgeous pastel-pink opera gloves, perfect for adding a touch of vintage elegance to any outfit. (Found at a vintage store that had a charming selection of costume jewelry!)
  • A decadent pink cupcake from the city’s oldest confectionery, Demel – truly a delicious treat that's almost too pretty to eat.

Oh, and I can't forget the adorable pink teddy bear that I picked up for my nephew back home! Let's just say he's going to be a very lucky little boy.

I have a few more days in Vienna, and I plan to soak up every magical moment! I’m off to visit the Schönbrunn Palace, a sprawling baroque gem, and take a ballet lesson in the beautiful Prater park. I have a feeling this magical city is going to leave me inspired to continue spreading the pink tutu revolution even further!

Stay tuned, darlings. There's still so much more to come from Vienna, and I promise to keep you all updated with my latest pink adventures.

Until next week, twirl with joy and don't forget to sprinkle some pink magic into your day!

Love,

Emma
