Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, here, fresh from the cobbled streets of Vienna and buzzing with excitement. I've finally made it to this beautiful city, and oh my, what a whirlwind it's been!
Vienna - where waltzes fill the air and history whispers from every corner - has captured my heart completely. This week has been a dreamy ballet-tastic blur of grand palaces, sparkling chandeliers, and yes, of course, stunning tutus! I arrived by train, naturally, as nothing quite compares to the romanticism of a train journey through Europe's countryside. With my trusty pink travel tutu swishing around me, I felt like a princess from a storybook, only much more glamorous!
The Waltz of the Past
Before we dive into my tutu-tastic Vienna adventures, let's talk about the city itself! Did you know, Vienna is the city of music, waltzes, and one of the ballet capitals of Europe? Every cobbled street feels like a stage, and the magnificent buildings seem to have been designed for an operatic performance! My heart was skipping a beat as we explored the Vienna State Opera House, a truly majestic building where countless legendary ballerinas have graced the stage. They're currently in the middle of their autumn season, and it seems there is a ballet on almost every night. There are some gorgeous classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. However, I'm rather taken by the sounds of some newer ballets: The Unanswered Question, and Sleepless by David Dawson. Maybe I'll even pop back for an encore evening or two... and of course, I shall be writing a blog post all about it!
Tutu-ing Vienna in Style
Speaking of the Opera House, let's get down to the most important matter, shall we? THE TUTUS! Every ballerinas dream come true is a trip to the Vienna State Opera's costume collection! They were a generous lot and gave me a glimpse behind the velvet ropes! The most extraordinary costumes have graced that stage over the last century! From glittering tutus crafted from exquisite silk to magnificent velvet ensembles fit for a Queen. My inner tutu-obsessed self went absolutely bonkers! Of course, I brought my pink travel tutu for the trip. It even featured a little tulle veil to look extra festive. It goes without saying that the local boutiques did not disappoint - the fabrics were decadent, and the colours oh so chic. Think flowing silk gowns, exquisitely tailored pantsuits, and a plethora of playful pastel hues, all so perfectly on-trend! A must for any pink-loving ballerina!
Fashionably Festive: The Autumnal Splendour of Vienna
Vienna has also embraced the spirit of autumn, the leaves transforming into a riot of fiery oranges and shimmering golds, mirroring the city's own golden charm. From the bustling city streets to the majestic Schönbrunn Palace (yes, it really is as magnificent as you’ve seen on the postcards!), Vienna is a feast for the eyes! Oh, and for my dear readers, let me give you a heads-up: prepare for the most stunning coffee and cakes. Seriously, the pastries here are like edible works of art, I've almost become addicted to Sachertorte, though there is so much choice I may never even come close to trying all the deliciousness on offer. Don't be surprised to find yourself indulging in decadent Viennese pastries paired with a steaming cup of strong coffee - Vienna does indulgence very well!
A Day at the (Horse) Races!
But Vienna isn't all about palaces and cakes, though it certainly does those wonderfully! It’s also the home of beautiful baroque architecture and parks. And that means, for this pink tutu-wearing ballerina, it’s horse riding! Of course! After exploring the stunning Belvedere Palace and gardens, it was only natural to spend an afternoon on the outskirts of Vienna, at the impressive Hippodrome Vienna. There were horses as far as the eye could see. We had an elegant carriage ride to the grounds before a demonstration of the art of Lipizzaner horses. You simply must see this – graceful and powerful horses! It was an experience to remember! The horses even took on the dressage and showjumping in true ballerinasque form, all so very elegant, poised and beautiful. They even have a wonderful equestrian show each day - "The Spirit of Vienna" is a spectacular experience of riding, jumping and artistry. Oh my word! It was so impressive, almost made my toes tap to the rhythm of their steps!
Ballet Bliss in Vienna: The Shows Must Go On
Speaking of ballet, my darlings, did you know Vienna is currently buzzing with world-class performances? Not only are we blessed with the opera house, but there's a truly incredible performance at the Burgtheater, which this season features Ballet du Palais. Oh, and for the fashionistas among you, the Vienna Fashion Week starts later this week, meaning I'll be scouring the streets for the latest trends and making some fabulous outfit posts. And of course, there will be a tutu or two - because how can you have a Fashion Week without a little sparkle?
Vienna: My Tutu-tastic Final Thoughts
This city truly embraces its history, from the classical music wafting through its streets to its awe-inspiring palaces and captivating dance traditions. And let's be honest, darling, any city with this much tutu history and stunning fashions has my heart completely! I think it’s time for me to don my pinkest tutu, grab the largest cup of Viennese coffee, and get lost in this captivating city of dreams! It’s an absolute must for anyone, particularly ballet and fashion enthusiasts. Vienna’s grace, elegance, and its captivating history made it one of the most special trips.
Stay tuned for next week's blog post as I delve into Vienna’s secrets: hidden cafés, beautiful parks, and extravagant boutiques! Oh, and keep those questions coming – ask me anything! In the meantime, I urge you to explore the pink side of life! Don a pink tutu, visit your local ballet class, watch a film about the great ballet dancers – do whatever makes your inner pink heart happy! Remember, every day is a new adventure with the right dose of pink tutu magic!
Until next Wednesday, keep sparkling, darlings!
