Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving lovelies!
This week, your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, has whisked herself off to Vienna, the city of waltz, pastries and, of course, glorious history! The train journey from Derbyshire was as charming as ever - I just adore those little compartments and the calming rhythm of the tracks. I also managed to snag a window seat with a view of the gorgeous snow-covered countryside. I'm sure you can all imagine the little twirls I had in my seat - a fellow passenger even asked me if I was a ballerina! "Just a bit of practice, darling!" I replied with a wink.
Vienna itself is absolutely magical. Everywhere you look, there are stunning buildings, cobblestone streets and little coffee shops brimming with locals enjoying their morning coffee and pastries. It feels like I've stepped right into a fairytale! I've even spotted a few folks with pink tutus, though they haven't quite embraced the full colour spectrum yet! It's only a matter of time, though, I'm sure.
Speaking of fairytale-like experiences, this week I found myself captivated by the Schönbrunn Palace! It was just breathtaking. The palace is utterly opulent, full of historical charm, and I swear, every single room had at least one chandelier shimmering with an array of tiny pink crystals! It was as if it was made for a princess like me, although perhaps with a slightly more elegant posture...
Tutu History Time!
You know me, always hunting for tutu connections. Vienna holds a special place in the history of the tutu - did you know the famous Vienna Opera Ballet was the first ballet company to truly embrace the romantic tutu? In fact, they've been known to incorporate four layers of tulle, sometimes even five! Just imagine the airiness, the grace, the sheer wonder! It's the very definition of Parisian ballerina elegance - and who wouldn't want to feel that?
Dancing Through the Centuries
Naturally, I had to experience a true Viennese ballet performance, and the Vienna State Opera delivered. Their rendition of "Swan Lake" was nothing short of perfection. I felt a true sense of connection with the ballerinas, their pink tutus swirling, soaring through the air with the elegance of swans. And when the lights went down and the orchestra started, the energy was truly magical.
A Taste of Vienna - Pastries & Shopping
Between ballet classes, performances, and palace exploration, I had to indulge in some proper Viennese treats. And who can resist the lure of Sachertorte? It was absolutely divine, layered with chocolate and apricot jam and a velvety layer of chocolate ganache. I might have even indulged in a second slice.
Naturally, Vienna being a city of style, a fashion-minded girl like myself couldn't resist a bit of shopping! The city is bursting with shops brimming with the latest styles, and I even discovered a little boutique tucked away in a cobbled alleyway selling the most gorgeous, blush-pink tulle tutus! You bet I snagged a couple!
Horseback Through History
After a day of waltz and shopping, what's better than a bit of Viennese history... on horseback? Yes, dear readers, I took a leisurely ride through the streets of the Prater, Vienna's beautiful park, where the Vienna State Opera even holds their summer concerts! The horses were beautiful, their glossy coats shimmering in the sunshine, and the wind blowing through my hair as we rode - just heavenly!
