Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! It's Emma, back from a whirlwind trip to Vienna, Austria! This city is positively dripping with waltzes, waltzes, waltzes...and let me tell you, it's just about as glamorous as a vintage feather boa on a prima ballerina!
As always, I couldn't possibly leave Derbyshire without a strategically planned wardrobe fit for a Viennese princess. My suitcase overflowed with pink hues and, of course, my collection of carefully chosen tutus. My current favourite is a fluffy, blush-pink confection complete with delicate layers of tulle and a dainty satin ribbon. Just thinking about it makes me want to twirl!
Vienna's beauty stole my heart from the moment I stepped off the train. Yes, my loves, you heard right, train. This city truly embraces the magic of railways! With a flourish, I popped on my pink tulle train-skirt, a sassy nod to both my love for dancing and my elegant journey. I mean, what better way to arrive in the heart of the Austrian empire? The station, a magnificent cathedral of cast iron and glass, shimmered under the Viennese sunshine. The air buzzed with a melodic, slightly waltzing rhythm that promised adventure and a whole lot of glitter.
Speaking of glitter...My first stop, of course, was a trip to the opulent world of Vienna's famous shops. Forget everything you know about normal retail! Think soaring ceilings, hand-painted murals and chandeliers that could make Cinderella weep. I picked up the most gorgeous blush-pink cashmere sweater (I couldn't resist, my dear loves!) paired it with a shimmering champagne-coloured tutu for a truly fairytale ensemble. I also found the perfect little embroidered ballet flat for waltzing around the cobblestone streets. But the pièce de résistance was the tiny, tucked away vintage costume shop overflowing with feathered boas, sequined gloves and headbands that would have made Josephine Baker herself envious! My heart (and shopping bag!) could barely contain itself!
After shopping till I dropped (in the best way, of course), I embarked on a classic Viennese activity: A Viennese waltz lesson. And, darling loves, did you know Vienna has a whole section dedicated to the waltz - the "Wiener Walzer"?! That's what I call dedicated! I practically melted with joy as the instructor, a handsome man in a smart suit, led me through the elegant steps. With a whirl and a dip, I felt like a princess from a Strauss opera, and with a little more practice, I reckon I could win over the whole of Vienna with my new waltz moves!
No visit to Vienna is complete without seeing a Viennese ballet! My, oh my, what a spectacle it was! Every movement, every plié, was executed with the grace of swans and the precision of clocks. My toes curled with pure ballet delight as the dancers glided effortlessly across the stage. They were like pink-tulle clad wisps of air in shimmering white tutus! I can't wait to go back to see another show, the ballet is positively enchanting!
While waltzing, shopping and seeing ballet was pure bliss, Vienna also offered a wonderful opportunity to indulge in my other passion - equine elegance! My love for horses and tutus practically collided head-on! After a little research, I found myself riding through the stunning parklands outside the city centre, my pink tutu trailing behind me like a cloud of gossamer whispers.
Vienna has a truly special way of captivating its visitors. Its streets, filled with charming coffeehouses, its buildings adorned with elegant flourishes, and the constant hum of waltz music in the air – it truly transports you to a bygone era. Every corner holds a whisper of history, every shop a story of craftsmanship. The whole city feels like an open air theatre, where life itself becomes an enchanting performance.
As the day drew to a close, the city lights twinkled like fireflies, illuminating a spectacular display of Vienna's charming architecture. After a traditional Wiener Schnitzel (a delicious culinary highlight!), I decided to take a moonlight stroll along the Danube canal. I don't know about you lovelies, but nothing makes a tutu feel more ethereal than being bathed in the soft glow of a Viennese moonlight! The gentle water lapping against the canal banks provided a perfect serenade as I reminisced about the day's adventures.
I must tell you, my heart felt incredibly full. Vienna had offered up a magical blend of elegance, history and charm. But perhaps most importantly, it confirmed that no matter where you are in the world, wearing a pink tutu can instantly transform your surroundings into a ballet of joy and excitement.
So my darling tutu-loving lovelies, if you're looking for a trip to a city bursting with grace, waltzing and a whole lot of glittering loveliness - then make Vienna your next adventure! You won't be disappointed. And don't forget, you never know where life might lead when you're rocking your favourite pink tutu.
Until next Wednesday, remember, every day is a performance, and life is a stage!
Lots of love,
Emma ?
