Good morning, darlings! It's Emma here, your Pink Tutu correspondent, back from the most fabulous weekend in the city of waltzes and emperors - Vienna!
As a Derbyshire lass, I'm used to rolling green hills and cobbled market squares, but Vienna took my breath away! This city feels like a fairytale spun from cream and gold, with palaces fit for a princess (me, obviously) and music in every cobbled street.
Travelling in Style
The journey itself was an adventure. From the grand railway station in London, I travelled through the night, lulled by the gentle rhythm of the train tracks and the flickering light of passing villages. Aching for some fresh air and a little wiggle, I woke up at a bustling railway station in Vienna - all grand pillars, glittering chandeliers, and bustling with elegant commuters and eager tourists. I even saw a carriage drawn by horses! I think my inner Victorian governess did a little jig at the sight.
Tutu Travels:
Vienna is truly a city of ballet - the birthplace of Strauss and home to one of the most famous opera houses in the world. It's the perfect spot for a girl in a tutu. And I, of course, was sporting a delicate pink one, trimmed with shimmering sequins, for my first Viennese adventure.
First Stop: The Viennese State Opera
I just had to start my journey at the Vienna State Opera, a grand, historic building dripping with gold, plush red velvet and marble. My first experience was an evening of The Nutcracker. It was a magical experience; the costumes, the sets, the dancers - all utterly enchanting!
A Fashionable Foray
Vienna is a haven for the fashion conscious. After my opera adventure, I spent a lovely afternoon indulging in the city's chic boutiques. There are so many incredible shops bursting with unique vintage pieces and independent designers. I even spotted a lovely shop with beautiful velvet evening gowns in the most glorious shades of pink! I must confess, I spent a few precious hours dreaming up all the fancy events I could wear it to.
A Walk through Time
After a cuppa and a little Viennese cake, I strolled through the heart of the city. I love Vienna's grand palaces like the Hofburg, with its magnificent halls and grand staircases - so many photo opportunities! I could practically hear the waltzing in the air.
A Cultural Gem
Vienna is an enchanting blend of history, art, and culture. I'd definitely recommend a visit to the Belvedere Museum. They're currently showcasing a collection of masterpieces by Klimt and Schiele, which I thought were just gorgeous. There's an energy in their work that echoes the grace and beauty of this remarkable city.
More Tutu Adventures to Come
Vienna has stolen my heart. This city offers a unique combination of elegance, history and magic. It's definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves a little bit of extravagance and beauty in their life. I can’t wait to return to Vienna soon for more of its magic and charm. Next time, perhaps I'll explore the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace or take a carriage ride through the Prater Park! I will certainly let you all know, darlings!
And as always, remember - there’s a pink tutu waiting for everyone out there. So grab yours and dance into your own fairytale.
Until next week,
Emma
