Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 1682 - Waltz Through Vienna!

Bonjour, my darling darlings! It’s Emma, your resident Pink Tutu queen, reporting live from the magnificent city of Vienna, Austria! As you know, Wednesdays are all about Vienna on Pink-Tutu.com, and this week I'm waltzing through the cobbled streets with my heart aflutter (and yes, of course, my trusty pink tutu, which has made the journey with me on this European adventure).

Today, July 28th, is all about Vienna’s fabulous heritage - a heritage as vibrant as a symphony played by the Vienna Philharmonic! Vienna is a city that just makes me want to twirl! (Spoiler alert: I did! And several times, too!).

Now, you might be wondering why I'm so excited to be here in Vienna. Well, for one, the city is practically bursting with history. Just stepping out of the train station felt like stepping into a Jane Austen novel - elegant carriages, quaint shops, and people in fabulous hats, sipping their coffees in the squares.

Of course, there's another reason - the ballet! The Vienna State Opera is one of the world's most prestigious opera houses, with a ballet company that truly puts on breathtaking performances. This evening, I’m off to witness a world-renowned production of Swan Lake. This city just understands what makes a ballet-loving girl’s heart skip a beat, and you can practically feel the magic in the air.

But it's not all about the ballet! You can't truly understand Vienna without indulging in its charming little boutiques and its delectable pastries (think strudel and sachertorte!), all best enjoyed with a nice cuppa! Even the city itself feels like a fairytale!

I arrived at the Central Station, the imposing Hofburg Palace a vision in the distance, like a real-life Sleeping Beauty castle!

Taking Vienna by Horse-drawn Carriage

There's nothing quite like a leisurely ride through the city's heart in a horse-drawn carriage, the gentle clopping of hooves adding to the old-world charm. Vienna truly is a city of elegance. It was during my carriage ride that I saw it – the majestic Vienna State Opera House, a glittering, opulent masterpiece standing proud. The architecture, the sculptures, it’s simply a visual treat for the senses, not to mention, a dream for any ballerina!

And let’s be honest – you can’t talk about Vienna without mentioning those magnificent pink buildings. Oh, how I dream of someday owning a grand mansion with that classic pink exterior. Maybe even adorned with my favourite pink tutu! Perhaps even a tiny, little dance studio to hold ballet classes and pink tutu workshops. How lovely!

Vienna’s coffee culture, a ritual almost as important as its music, is another charming aspect of the city. There's an elegant, graceful feel to everything - like they are moving through life in a perfectly orchestrated ballet. Even their street food vendors seem to serve pastries with a certain kind of poise and panache.

But it’s not just the architecture and the cultural life of Vienna that makes it so charming – it’s the warmth and charm of the people. The Viennese are as kind as they are chic, and I feel so warmly welcomed in this beautiful city.

This weekend, I'm heading off on a day trip to Schönbrunn Palace, one of the most impressive summer residences of the Habsburg emperors, where I'll be walking amongst the glorious gardens and learning more about Vienna's royal history. You bet I’ll be putting on my most magnificent pink tutu for the occasion, too!

Tutu History in Vienna: Tracing the Ballet’s Path

Even for a simple ballerina like myself, Vienna feels bursting with rich ballet history, which can’t be ignored, as we waltz through the beautiful city. From the iconic Vienna State Opera House, a shining beacon of operatic and ballet performance, to the grand Hofburg Palace, the home of generations of Habsburg emperors, I found myself tracing the history of dance, almost subconsciously!

There’s even a Museum of Dance that offers an extraordinary glimpse into Vienna’s deep love of dance. Just last night, I saw the Vienna State Ballet perform the final movement of “Sleeping Beauty.” I was in awe of their elegance, grace, and precise choreography! A visual reminder that I’ve travelled to a city brimming with creativity, beauty, and elegance.

Vienna truly embodies everything I hold dear: grace, style, and elegance, and this feeling radiates out to its inhabitants and its visitors alike! You can’t escape the glamour in this beautiful city!

Fashionista Emma Explores Vienna’s Shopping Scene

And naturally, no visit to a fashion-forward city like Vienna would be complete without a good dose of shopping! Let me tell you, the fashion boutiques here are out of this world! I’m positively addicted to finding the perfect vintage accessory or antique charm!

My first stop this afternoon was to check out the charming boutique, “Kleiderschrank”, tucked away on a cobbled side street. Now, you know I can never resist a vintage find! I discovered a collection of whimsical vintage handbags and brooches – and you’ve guessed it - all shades of pink, of course. Oh, and you have to see these gorgeous brooches! A vintage ballerina with a delicate tutu made entirely from crystal? That's not a brooch you just walk past, my dears.

Afterward, I took a delightful stroll through the city’s bustling Naschmarkt, with its endless stalls of fresh flowers, gourmet treats, and of course, fabulous fashion finds! I managed to snag a beautifully embroidered vintage pink velvet bolero - perfect for my upcoming performances at the opera house. (More on that later!)

Ballet Performances and Pink Tutu-ful Times

Vienna really does have something for everyone - from its lively cafes to its historic palaces, and even its Pink Tutu workshops. (No, I'm just kidding - not yet… but perhaps, just perhaps, someday!). However, I can't deny I’m a ballerina at heart, so of course, I'm taking full advantage of the stunning ballet opportunities Vienna offers!

Every day seems like a fairy-tale experience – ballet, shopping, delicious pastries and coffee! Oh, the dreams of a young ballerina!

You might be wondering how I manage to fund all these adventures? Well, darling, you know me - I make it work. My trusty pink tutu and my dancing shoes are my trusty workhorses. You can find me at numerous charity events and galas performing graceful solo pieces, charming my audiences with each pirouette. Not to mention, my ever-popular ballerina workshop, where I help children (and even adults!) to step out of their shells and twirl into a world of confidence and creativity!

Now, I must confess, being on the road, as a Pink Tutu-wearing, ballet-loving adventurer does require a certain level of ingenuity. Luckily, there are countless ways for a ballerina with a suitcase full of pink tutus to fund a glamorous trip to Vienna! A little side-hustle goes a long way!

So, that’s it, my dears. Another fabulous week in the beautiful, waltzing city of Vienna! Keep checking in to www.pink-tutu.com for more Vienna updates, and let’s keep our spirits as bright as a Viennese waltz! I can’t wait for my next Pink Tutu adventure!

Until next week, keep twirling!

Yours in pink,

Emma xx
