Guten Tag, my darling tutu twirlers! ? Emma here, back from the magical city of Vienna! I've just got back from a whirlwind trip across Europe, performing at some absolutely stunning venues and – even better – soaking up the beautiful Austrian charm of Vienna. It was an absolute dream come true, and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement to tell you all about it. As always, you'll find me spinning in my favourite pink tutu (naturally!) but trust me, you'll find yourself whisked away to the elegance and beauty of Vienna, too.
I flew into Vienna a couple of weeks ago, and immediately hopped on a horse-drawn carriage. What a truly glamorous entrance! Vienna has got that classic fairytale feeling – think cobbled streets, stunning architecture and a real sense of history, and it feels so charmingly old-fashioned. It's like stepping straight out of a book, especially when you see the graceful waltz that happens so spontaneously on the streets.
My accommodation in Vienna was delightful, in a gorgeous little hotel with rooms just as pink and glamorous as I could have dreamt of! Think a blush-toned colour palette with fluffy, oversized white pillows and beautiful, elaborate chandeliers. And I don’t even have to mention the wardrobe – overflowing with tutus!
Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without seeing a ballet show. I actually took a class at the famous Vienna State Opera, which was an amazing experience! The room had these huge, grand windows overlooking the city, and the dancing itself was so powerful and graceful – absolutely inspiring. Afterwards, we even had the most wonderful cup of coffee and strudel at the cutest little cafe near the theatre. The cafe had this beautiful ornate chandelier and the cakes looked like edible works of art! I couldn’t resist indulging, and oh my, it was heavenly.
Then came the real highlight – a trip to the Kunsthistorisches Museum! You have to see the collection of paintings and sculptures here - just mind-blowing! You can’t go past the incredible works of art by Michelangelo, Rubens, Rembrandt and Raphael, but what really caught my eye was the fashion collection! The costumes from Vienna's golden era of opera and theatre were absolutely jaw-dropping, featuring exquisite embroidery and incredible design - imagine all the tutus, jewels and fabulous ballgowns. It’s the closest I’ve felt to actually time travelling and stepping straight into history. I took photos of the stunning outfits and some beautiful scenes - it’s the best inspiration for a brand new tutu, isn’t it?
I spent so many beautiful days shopping in Vienna. The city is just a haven for finding all sorts of beautiful clothes and fashion treasures! Imagine: cute boutiques bursting with designer creations, quirky vintage shops overflowing with fashion history and those dreamy grand department stores, bursting with gorgeous clothing.
Don’t even get me started on the shoes, especially the gorgeous ballerina slippers and flats - perfect for a girl on the go! But, it was impossible to resist some fabulous new pairs of dancing shoes, naturally! A pair of pretty blush pink dancing flats (the perfect color match, of course), some elegant velvet black ballet shoes, and even a little treat for my fancy dance dress, with a sparkling pair of gold ballet pumps with the most delicate lace on top.
There’s something for every taste in Vienna. My absolute favourite find was a stunning lilac silk dress I picked up in a little shop tucked away on one of the city’s cobbled side streets. The dress flowed and swished around my ankles, like the perfect princess ballerina ensemble!
Evenings were always an absolute dream. Vienna is known for its beautiful old buildings, stunning squares, and beautiful evening concerts in gorgeous squares and squares – they always have this truly magical, fairytale-esque atmosphere!
I can’t forget the lovely cafe culture. So many cafes serve incredible, dreamy Austrian delicacies, like creamy coffee, the famous sachertorte (a rich chocolate cake!) and melt-in-your-mouth Apfelstrudel – the perfect dessert to accompany your afternoon coffee or afternoon tea. I swear I was actually in a book, sitting with a cup of frothy cappuccino and a plate of tempting, perfectly layered Apfelstrudel.
To top off the experience, I even saw a truly spectacular ballet show at the Vienna State Opera - just breathtaking! The whole performance felt so grand, the costumes were incredibly beautiful and the dancers were just so talented! I found myself mesmerized by the performance, swept away by the enchanting dance moves, and completely lost in the story of the performance. It's almost enough to inspire me to learn some new ballet steps – although you know me, I have a habit of taking my inspiration from the clothes and the fashion, even if they don't have anything to do with the performance at all!
As usual, I left with some of my favourite tutu ideas inspired by the beautiful garments of the performance – the best way to capture the mood of the experience and translate that magic into a tutu, you know?
It’s almost time to go - it's already time for me to pack my suitcase. But I can’t help but feel like I've just left a dream! Vienna truly was a magical trip – and this incredible city has captured my heart. But just like Cinderella, my time has almost run out and it's back to the real world and more glamorous travels. But you’ll be sure to see the impact of this magical city in my next blog post!
