Guten Tag, darling readers! Emma here, your favourite tutu-clad adventurer, bringing you a little bit of Vienna magic straight from the heart of the city!
As always, Wednesday means a new post for the Pink Tutu blog, and this week I'm bubbling over with excitement. Not only are we in the most beautiful city in Europe, with its gilded palaces, sweeping squares and enchanting river, but it's also the place that practically invented waltz dancing – a dance that begs to be performed in a fluffy pink tutu!
And yes, before you ask, I have been wearing pink tutus in all their glory while exploring this magnificent city. As always, pink tutus are perfect for embracing the spirit of the places I visit, blending into the cultural landscape whilst adding a dash of joyful flamboyance!
I know what you’re thinking, "Emma, don’t you ever get tired of pink tutus?" To that, I say: absolutely not! It's like asking if I ever get tired of dancing, or laughing, or savouring a delicious pastry (Vienna is brimming with those!). Some things are just too delightful to grow weary of!
This week in Vienna has been an absolute whirlwind of tutu-wearing adventures. Let me share my highlights:
Day 1: The Ballet Bonanza
It wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu adventure without some serious ballet, and Vienna didn’t disappoint! We saw a magnificent performance at the Vienna State Opera, the kind of opulent experience that makes every ballerina’s heart sing. It was "Swan Lake," and the artistry of the dancers was breathtaking. Honestly, I don't know what was more stunning, the dancers or the glorious venue itself, the stage seeming to glow with a celestial light. Afterward, we enjoyed a champagne reception with other ballet enthusiasts, where the conversations revolved around arabesques, leaps, and, of course, tutus! It was the perfect start to my Vienna adventure.
Day 2: The Schönbrunn Stroll
There's no escaping history when you’re in Vienna, and yesterday, we embarked on a dreamy walk through Schönbrunn Palace Gardens. With their baroque architecture, intricate fountains, and verdant green lawns, these gardens are practically out of a fairy tale. It was as if the setting was made for waltzing, so naturally, I did! I’m not sure the ducks quite appreciated my twirls by the pond, but I'm sure they had an elegant view! I have to say, it was even better in the afternoon sunlight, giving everything a magical golden hue. After all that dancing, we enjoyed a delicious Viennese apple strudel, with whipped cream that was fluffy like a tutu, and coffee that was as dark and rich as a chocolate bar.
Day 3: The Horse-Drawn Charm
As many of you know, my love for tutus runs parallel with my love for horses. So, today I went on an exhilarating journey through the heart of the city in a horse-drawn carriage. Can you imagine the look on everyone’s faces as we clip-clopped through the streets, my tutu fluttering in the breeze? Pure Vienna magic! It felt like stepping into a vintage movie, and it made me wonder if people in the 19th century wore tutus. Now there’s an interesting research project! This afternoon, we explored the famous Vienna Opera House, with its grand chandeliers, plush velvet seating, and magnificent stage.
Day 4: The Tutu Shopping Spree
No trip to Vienna would be complete without a shopping extravaganza, and this time, it was all about tutu inspiration! I found myself browsing the boutiques along Mariahilfer Strasse, a charming street teeming with both traditional Austrian wares and modern fashion. Let’s just say, the tutu wardrobe has received a fabulous upgrade – with a few velvet numbers, some delicate lace creations, and even a couple of tutus adorned with hand-painted Vienna scenery! Vienna has this uncanny way of inspiring creative ideas!
Day 5: The Opera Ball
My adventures in Vienna are culminating in an extraordinary event tonight - a glittering Viennese Opera Ball! I’ll be attending in full pink tutu glory, of course! I have a special piece designed just for this event, a soft tulle masterpiece that shimmers like a starlit sky. The dress itself is a story, a testament to the history of Vienna and its love for the beautiful. I have even had my ballet shoes hand-painted with scenes of Vienna!
Tonight, the stage will be alive with the waltz, and my heart will be beating in time to the music. I can’t wait to twirl under the chandelier, watch the exquisite costumes, and witness the passion that explodes into dance. Vienna is the perfect backdrop for an elegant evening, filled with enchantment and beauty. It's the city that lives up to its nickname – The City of Dreams.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu adventure without a little sprinkle of tutu magic. I have a surprise for my wonderful readers! After all, it's not every day that a tutu-wearing adventurer travels the world. If you’re in Vienna for the next couple of days, come and join me! There’ll be waltzing in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens, tutus twirling by the Hofburg Palace, and perhaps a shared coffee and strudel with this tutu-clad traveler! I'll even show you where to get the most exquisite ballerina-inspired clothes, so you too can experience Vienna’s enchantment through the lens of a pink tutu!
Stay tuned for more enchanting adventures from the City of Dreams!
Yours in tulle and twirls,
Emma
