Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad traveller, beaming back at you from the glorious city of Vienna! I know, I know, a ballet-mad girl like me just had to visit the birthplace of the waltz, right? It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another #PinkTutuVienna blog post – grab a cuppa, your favourite biscuit and let’s dive in!
This week has been an absolute whirl – in the most wonderful, delightful way, of course! My last post saw me bounding off on a train journey through the stunning Swiss Alps, which was almost as exhilarating as a grand jeté! As I sit here in my plush hotel room, overlooking the enchanting Vienna State Opera, I feel utterly grateful to be able to follow my dreams and share them with you all.
Now, let’s talk tutus! As you all know, my passion for these frothy beauties knows no bounds. You can imagine my sheer delight at discovering the history of tutus in this very city! Apparently, the modern-day tutu – that iconic, fluffy delight – first graced the stage here in 1839 at the Vienna Opera. The first ballet to feature this style? “Giselle”, starring the legendary Carlotta Grisi. Talk about a momentous occasion for tutudom!
I couldn't resist paying homage to this groundbreaking garment by grabbing a new tutu, naturally! This time, it’s a stunning lavender confection – the colour of lilac blossom! It features the most delicate, hand-stitched embroidery, and of course, a touch of pink for good measure! Oh, and did I mention the gorgeous tulle layers that make it swish with every turn? I'm practically a ballet-ready princess!
Of course, Vienna isn't just about tutus and ballerinas – though those are pretty darn important. It's also a city of culinary delights, particularly for a sweet-toothed girl like me! I've been indulging in the most exquisite Wiener Schnitzels (it's a culinary must, darlings!) alongside sugary delights like the delectable Apfelstrudel, washed down with copious amounts of Viennese coffee. Heavenly!
My other Vienna adventures have included a trip to the opulent Schönbrunn Palace, which was utterly magnificent – picture me twirling on the grand staircase, my pink tutu swishing in delight! Then there's the world-famous Vienna State Opera – where else could a tutu-wearing ballerina feel truly at home? I was mesmerized by the grand interiors, each detail crafted with breathtaking precision. They even have a special ‘Opera Ball’ here, where everyone dresses in their finery and twirls the night away! Perhaps a pink tutu would make a spectacular addition to the spectacle…
Speaking of twirling, I had to indulge in a ballet lesson at the world-renowned Vienna State Ballet! Yes, darling, my legs were trembling with excitement – who wouldn’t be thrilled to learn from some of the most talented dancers in the world? The studio was a dream – spacious, bright, with huge mirrors to check those pirouettes! My teacher, Herr Müller, was a delight, with the most encouraging, jovial spirit – you’d be surprised how much energy he had, even after showing us a million variations!
But what would a #PinkTutuVienna adventure be without some charming horses? I couldn't resist taking a ride in a traditional fiaker (a horse-drawn carriage). Picture this: me, in my lavender tutu, gliding through the historic streets of Vienna, feeling like a fairy tale princess – all eyes were on my pink-hued tutu! Oh, it was a dream come true.
And the best part? My travel adventures aren't a luxury for the well-heeled, darling. My journey is powered by my love for ballet, which means I often fund my travels by giving enchanting ballet performances – yes, even me in my pink tutu!
Vienna, my love, has stolen a piece of my heart. With its rich history, beautiful architecture, breathtaking ballet scene and delicious food, I know this isn't my last visit.
I hope this #PinkTutuVienna blog post inspires you to dream big, darlings, whether that's trying a new tutu colour, dancing your heart out, or embarking on a fabulous journey.
And remember: life is far too short not to wear pink!
Until next time, stay sparkling!
Yours in tutus and twirls, Emma
