Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 1723 - Waltz into Vienna, My Lovelies!

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu clad blogger, reporting live from the magnificent city of Vienna! Oh, this city is just brimming with history and elegance – just the kind of vibe my pink tutu can’t resist! ?

This week, I traded my Derbyshire lanes for the elegant avenues of Vienna. Yes, darling, I decided to ditch the quaintness of the English countryside for a little bit of continental flair. (But don’t worry, I packed enough pink tutus to last a lifetime! ?).

The journey to Vienna was as lovely as it sounds. Imagine me, darling, my pink tulle flowing gently in the wind as I rode the Eurostar – oh, the luxurious leather seats, the crystal glasses of wine, it was a dream! ?

Upon arrival, I instantly fell in love with this majestic city. It feels like stepping right into a storybook! Baroque palaces adorned with stunning statues, cobbled streets perfect for twirling in a tutu (did I mention how much I love twirling? ?), and charming coffee houses where you can enjoy a delicious Wiener Schnitzel.

My mission this week, my dears, was twofold: ballet, of course, and… tutus! Because when you’re in Vienna, how can you resist the irresistible allure of waltzing in a pink tutu under the dazzling chandeliers of the magnificent Vienna State Opera?

Speaking of ballet, Vienna has such a rich ballet heritage. We’re talking the Strauss dynasty, the waltz, the Vienna State Ballet… Talk about an amazing backdrop for a ballet enthusiast like myself! I actually caught two performances – Swan Lake (utterly magical!) and The Nutcracker (a true winter wonderland!)

Now, my loves, let’s get into the detail:

Vienna State Ballet: A Twirling Wonderland

My first ballet encounter was at the Vienna State Opera. Oh darling, this place is breathtaking! With its ornate golden decor and incredible acoustics, you truly feel transported to a bygone era. Imagine it - you enter this opulent hall, you hear the first notes of Tchaikovsky, the curtains rise, and then…bam! The grace and power of these amazing ballerinas takes you to a different realm.

Swan Lake: It was truly stunning, and let me tell you, I had tears in my eyes as the swans (danced by these amazing dancers with so much beauty and emotion!) twirled and swirled with effortless grace. ? Every movement was so perfectly executed, every detail so finely honed… it truly was a captivating performance.

The Nutcracker: Now, darling, The Nutcracker is such a festive ballet – perfect for the upcoming holidays, don’t you think? I swear, just the thought of the Sugar Plum Fairy has my toes tapping! ? And you know what’s extra amazing? In Vienna, you can catch this beloved show right through December.

Now for the tutus, my loves!

You all know my love for a fabulous tutu. And darling, you won’t believe what I found here in Vienna! I am talking Tutu Heaven, my darlings! First, the history: the ballet of Vienna, just like its fashion scene, is all about tradition, but also about innovating. Did you know that one of the first tutus as we know them now, was developed here, around the same time as Strauss’ The Blue Danube?

After taking in two brilliant performances at the Opera, I just had to pay a visit to The Theatermuseum Wien, for some fashion-related inspiration. It houses some truly stunning examples of tutus from all eras! Some were even worn by ballerinas who danced with the Strauss family, right here in Vienna! Now you know, my loves, why a girl must always wear a pink tutu! ✨

Tutu Time: My Own Parisian Pink Splendor!

Darling, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a little retail therapy! I mean, how could I resist such an opportunity to shop till I dropped for gorgeous vintage tutus and chic Austrian creations! I managed to snag myself the most exquisite pink tulle tutu – you can imagine, oh darling, a perfect shade of bubblegum, oh, and with a sparkly silver waistband that catches the light! ?

I simply had to wear my new purchase immediately, so I strolled around Vienna's stunning architecture with this fluffy creation on – oh, it felt divine, my love! I even took my tutu-clad self for a romantic stroll along the Danube!

I found so many lovely boutiques tucked away in Vienna’s quaint alleyways. I swear, I practically lived in my pink tutu as I popped into shops with names like ‘Tolle Ballerina’ and ‘Danse Viennoise’! Every shop seemed to offer something a little bit different: exquisite fabrics, stunning accessories… It was like walking through a ballet-inspired wonderland!

A Few Pink Tutu Tips for Vienna, Darling:

  • Dress the part: Yes, darling, Vienna loves its classic elegance, so feel free to go for the whole waltz-and-whirl, grand ballroom effect! But honestly, just wear your favourite pink tutu and you’re good to go! ?

  • See a ballet: My advice to you, love, don't even think about leaving Vienna without a visit to one of their phenomenal ballet performances.

  • The *Theatermuseum Wien:* This museum will inspire your inner ballerina and make you want to dance! They've even got a stunning collection of tutus - just like the one I brought with me from Vienna. ✨

  • Ride the carriages: Vienna's Fiaker (horse-drawn carriages) are absolutely charming! It's like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel, darling. It makes the whole city feel more magical, like the perfect setting for a ballet. (You should know, you can find fiaker standing in line just next to the Vienna State Opera, in case you're feeling fancy after your show.)

  • Try a coffee and cake in one of the many traditional coffee shops. These spots offer a glimpse into the true Vienna spirit. I love sipping coffee from a delicate china cup, just like the ballerinas of old!

On my to-do list:

  • Waltz at the Wiener Hofburg - oh darling, how glamorous would that be?

  • Explore the stunning palace grounds - all that beautiful architecture, a perfect setting for pink tutus, my dears!

  • Explore more of Vienna’s museums: they have some pretty incredible historical displays and, of course, stunning art and dance collections!

  • Shop for a fabulous Vienna-themed outfit! I know, oh darling, I just can't help myself... and after all, my love of all things vintage will never let me forget a Vienna adventure.

I can't wait to share more Vienna adventures with you next week, darling! Until then, twirl on and live your life in a pink tutu. ?

XOXO,

Emma
