Hello, darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, back from Vienna, a city that’s positively bursting with elegance, history, and enough pink to satisfy even the most demanding fashionista!
This week's post is a little bit different. You see, dear readers, sometimes even the most intrepid explorer needs a little reminder of what they love most. This trip, the journey itself, became just that: a joyful reminder of the magic I find in combining my love of travel with my undying passion for… you guessed it, pink tutus!
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Emma, haven't we already done a post about tutus and travel? Surely not another one?" But this, my sweethearts, is more than just a whimsical adventure. This is about exploring the rich history and exquisite fashion of Vienna, a city that, like a delicate tulle skirt, unfolds layer by layer, revealing its secrets and stunning beauty.
As I'm sure you already know, this pink-loving ballerina finds joy in the simple things: a twirl in the morning light, a delicious cup of Viennese coffee while observing the local life, and, of course, a perfectly pink tutu! And in Vienna, it feels like my passions intertwine perfectly! It’s a city with such history; you can almost feel the legacy of the grand waltzes and elegant ballrooms echoing through the cobbled streets. And let me tell you, that history includes some seriously stunning tutu stories!
Riding The Rails, With Tutus in Tow!Now, getting to Vienna was an adventure in itself! I bid farewell to the rolling hills of Derbyshire, my home, and hopped aboard a train. And yes, of course, I was sporting a pale pink tutu with an array of delicate lace appliqués. You know me - even on the railway, I aim to travel in style! It was one of those journeys where you look out the window, and the world goes by in a blur of greenery, making you feel a thousand miles away, even if you've only been travelling for a couple of hours. I settled into a carriage, found a comfortable seat, and the rhythm of the wheels and the soft chugging of the train made me want to sway and twirl, tutus and all.
Let me tell you, dear readers, nothing beats that feeling of travelling by train. The freedom of it! No need for traffic, no airports. Just you, your tutu, and a panoramic view! Plus, who needs in-flight entertainment when you have your own personal pink world, full of stories, dreams, and perhaps even a few twirls along the way!
Horse-Drawn Carriage Tours: Elegance RedefinedUpon arrival in Vienna, a surprise awaited me. My lovely Viennese friend, Amelia, had arranged a tour unlike any other! A magnificent horse-drawn carriage! Now, I’m no stranger to carriages. I have to admit, I do love a good royal carriage procession, all glittering gold and plumes of feathers, and of course, the magnificent costumes! But a real-life horse-drawn carriage ride in Vienna was another level entirely.
I'll never forget the feeling of that crisp Austrian air whipping through my hair as we trotted along the cobblestone streets, passing the opulent Hofburg Palace and the enchanting Schönbrunn Palace. I felt as though I had stepped right out of a fairytale! And it was all done, of course, in my signature style – a blush-coloured tutu that complemented the regal red velvet of the carriage, adding a dash of whimsical charm.
A Ballet Dream In Vienna: The Vienna State OperaVienna, as you know, is the birthplace of the waltz. But beyond its waltzing delights, Vienna holds a very special place in my ballet heart! For here lies the magnificent Vienna State Opera, one of the most famous opera houses in the world. A performance there is like stepping into a time machine, travelling to a grand era of exquisite gowns, lavish performances, and captivating dance!
This was my main purpose in visiting, darling. My dream: to see the renowned "Swan Lake," performed at this legendary opera house. Needless to say, I had the perfect pink tutu for the occasion. It had a slightly longer skirt than my usual choice, an intricate rose motif design around the waistband, and an elegant, pearl-studded bodice, perfect for dancing among the Viennese swans.
The energy within the Opera House was electric! The entire place felt buzzing with anticipation. I settled into my velvet-padded seat and listened as the strings of the orchestra began their captivating prelude. The stage then came alive. It was such a beautiful performance, full of elegant costumes, powerful dancing, and heartfelt emotion! I don’t think there’s a better way to feel inspired, motivated, and joyful than by seeing a performance as magnificent as the Swan Lake at the Vienna State Opera!
Shopping Spree In Vienna: Finding Pink Treasures!Every city I visit, no matter how charming, has to have one important stop - shopping! You can never have too many pink tutus! So I set out on a day dedicated to exploring the delightful boutiques and designer stores of Vienna!
Let me tell you, Vienna is a haven for the fashionista in me! We started our journey at the luxurious shops in the heart of the city. My lovely friend Amelia introduced me to hidden treasures and elegant boutiques brimming with designer wear. And of course, we ended up at a fantastic, colourful boutique where I found a dazzling assortment of tutus and ballet-inspired pieces in a variety of gorgeous colours. Of course, the shop had to have a section just for pink tutus! Amelia said they were the most popular!
But it wasn't just about finding tutus! I was enchanted by the gorgeous, traditional Viennese craftsmanship: delicate porcelain figurines, hand-painted jewellery boxes, and elaborate antique fabrics! It was like a visual feast for the senses. I even found a stunning vintage tutu, made of silk, in the most exquisite shade of lavender. I couldn't resist snapping it up! It's so pretty!
A Taste Of Vienna: Coffee And Cakes, Darling!Vienna, being a true metropolis of delights, wouldn't be complete without mentioning its culinary charm! This trip was not all tutus and shows. I savoured some wonderful, delightful culinary adventures!
Who hasn’t heard of Viennese pastries? My sweet tooth was certainly well-nourished during my time there. I can assure you, Vienna is truly a bakery lover's paradise! From Sachertorte, a decadent chocolate cake, to Apfelstrudel, with its warm apple filling, and delicate vanilla custard, Vienna's coffee houses and cafes are havens of sugar-sweet treats. I even sampled the infamous "Viennese Coffee," and it did not disappoint! It was rich, smooth, and full of aroma - the perfect drink to savour while watching the world go by, or while reading through a captivating novel on ballet history, dressed in a pretty pink tutu, of course.
Vienna - The Pinkest of CitiesAs I depart Vienna, the magical city, a thought lingers - this has been a whirlwind of a trip, filled with everything I love! Vienna has a way of weaving enchantment into every corner. The history, the culture, the shopping, the tutus! And let's not forget the coffee and cake! Every little detail about this city felt charmingly elegant. The perfect destination to feel a little extra, a little sparkly, and a little bit fabulous, which for me, is absolutely everything!
Now, I'm already thinking about my next destination. Where should I head to next? Which city is calling out to me with its history, culture, and the promise of exquisite shops and performances? Tell me in the comments! Until next time, darlings, keep twirling!
Yours truly, Emma
