Vienna, Waltz and Wonder - Pink Tutu Diaries, Blog Post 1725

Wednesday, 24th May 2028

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, writing to you live from the heart of Vienna, Austria!

This week has been a whirlwind of waltz, wonder and, of course, pink tutus! It all started with a journey by train from my home in Derbyshire - the scenery was breathtaking, all rolling hills and fields of wildflowers, the perfect setting for a whimsical adventure. Arriving in Vienna felt like stepping into a fairy tale - grand buildings with intricate details, cobblestone streets alive with laughter, and the air thick with the aroma of freshly baked strudel. Ah, I love this city already!

My adventure started with a visit to the Vienna State Opera, a magnificent edifice with a history steeped in both opera and ballet. It’s like the grandest ballroom imaginable - all ornate décor and echoing chandeliers. This place was practically bursting with history, the very walls whispering tales of legendary dancers and awe-inspiring performances. I could practically imagine the elegant ladies of yore waltzing through those gilded halls in their finest ballgowns and feather boas. And what of the ballet dancers? Of course they had tutus.

And speaking of tutus... oh, the tutus! The Opera House is also home to a fabulous ballet museum and I got to spend hours lost in the enchanting world of the tutu! It was like a fairy tale come true – a wonderland of shimmering silk and lace. They had so many styles, from the classic Romantic tutus with their billowing tiers of tulle, to the sleek and modern ones. I could practically feel the elegance and strength of the dancers who’d worn them – each one a miniature story of artistry and passion.

There was even a special exhibition about the evolution of the tutu. You wouldn’t believe the creative changes through history – the length, the style, the volume… it was just incredible. It just shows how important the tutu is to ballet, from the iconic designs of Marius Petipa in the 19th century right through to the breathtaking contemporary designs of today. I know we all take tutus for granted now, but when you think about it - the tutu is truly one of the most beautiful and powerful fashion pieces in the world.

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to Schönbrunn Palace, and I have to say, it was as gorgeous as I had imagined. This magnificent palace, with its lush gardens and fountains, felt straight out of a fairytale. I spent a good hour just wandering the manicured gardens, picturing the grand parties and celebrations held there throughout history. The Empress of Austria, she would’ve certainly worn a tutu. She had a fine appreciation for the beauty of fashion. The only problem was that, of course, you aren’t allowed to wear your tutu when you’re visiting, although there’s a small group who would agree that that’s a pretty pointless rule. The world needs more pink tutus. Don’t get me wrong, I admire all those lovely elegant historical ladies in their beautiful dresses, but tutus are just more fun!

Speaking of fun, on Saturday I had a chance to take a riding lesson in the Prater, a vast park in Vienna with an array of exciting things to do! Riding horses was certainly an adventure, but a fun one, and I managed to do it without taking a tumble, although a few nervous giggles may have been heard amongst the trees! The horse I rode was so beautiful - chestnut brown, with a shiny coat and a playful spirit - the ultimate in elegance. She certainly knew she was wearing a beautiful saddle and was determined to let the world know that she’d heard about the beauty of tutus, and knew her lovely glossy coat was every bit as glamorous!

Of course, every true pink-tutu loving adventure requires a little bit of shopping, and let me tell you, Vienna has an abundance of exquisite fashion boutiques. The Vienna State Opera Shop was pure heaven - every shop in that shop, from the window display to the elegant staff behind the counters, whispered glamour. I was drawn to all the lovely outfits in all those wonderful shades of pink – a symphony of silks and chiffons, sequins and jewels. I could’ve spent the rest of my life in there – or at least, until my travel funds ran out. It was time to be economical.

Oh! Before I go, I’m very excited to tell you that on Friday I’m attending a very special event, a grand ball held at the famous Vienna Hofburg Palace! I’m wearing my favourite pink tutu - the one that has a special layer of fluffy, pastel tulle which is like walking on a pink cloud - for the grand occasion, so you can see the pictures next week!

Well, it's time to get ready for another day filled with fun in Vienna! This beautiful city is just waiting to be explored, so check back in next week for another update on my adventures, from a pink-tutu loving girl, with a lot more to see!

Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous!

Much Love,

Emma xxx
