Hello my darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu Correspondent, reporting live from the magnificent city of Vienna! This week I'm trading my cobbled Derbyshire streets for the grand boulevards of this incredible European capital, and let me tell you, I'm absolutely in my element!
This week’s post marks the end of my "Ballet by Train" tour, where I've been flitting across Europe, embracing the joy of travel by rail and, of course, immersing myself in all things ballet! As a budding ballerina (and avid pink tutu enthusiast), nothing could be more delightful than combining a love of travelling with my passion for all things graceful and graceful.
Vienna, for anyone who hasn't been, is truly enchanting. The architecture is stunning, with grand palaces like the Schönbrunn Palace shimmering in the afternoon sun. It's almost as if you've stepped into a fairytale, complete with charming cafes tucked away on cobblestone streets. And speaking of charming…Vienna is absolutely brimming with ballet heritage. Did you know that the Vienna State Opera has a history dating back to the 18th century?

So, let me fill you in on my adventures…
Monday: Ballet, a Touch of History, and a Parisian Picnic
It all began on Monday, a lovely Parisian picnic with a twist! The lovely folk at Pink-tutu.com organized a meet-up for me with some fabulous fellow Pink Tutu supporters. The meeting place? Right in front of the Vienna State Opera! We swapped stories, shared pink tutu tips, and I even taught them some basic ballet steps under the watchful eye of a stunning Baroque facade. Then, a delightful picnic followed in the Stadtpark. Vienna has certainly perfected the art of enjoying the little things, wouldn’t you agree?
Tuesday: The "Ballet on the Streets" Charm
Oh my goodness! My first encounter with street ballet in Vienna blew me away! A spontaneous flash mob outside the Hofburg Palace brought the city to a standstill. This wasn't just your average performance; these young artists wove in and out of the crowd, bringing to life stories of Viennese royalty and classic ballet lore. There’s a magical, impromptu quality about street performances, wouldn't you agree?
Wednesday: A Whirl of Fashion and Fashionistas
Wednesday morning saw me explore the magnificent Naschmarkt. This bustling marketplace is bursting with everything from spices and fresh produce to artisan clothing. Of course, I was immediately drawn to the vibrant fabrics and whimsical creations! The “Tutu Tailor of Vienna” has become something of a local legend, transforming vintage fabrics into the most charming tutus - it was just too much for me to resist! Who can say no to pink silk ruffles? Not me, darling! I may have gone a bit overboard, but don’t you agree? You know me, "more is more" is my motto.
Thursday: From Dress Rehearsals to Tutu Workshops
My visit to the Vienna State Opera brought with it an exciting glimpse behind the scenes. Not only did I witness a thrilling rehearsal of a production of "Swan Lake," I had the incredible privilege of participating in a tutu workshop led by the world-famous seamstresses responsible for the exquisite costumes. It was inspiring to learn how the iconic tutus come together, and let me tell you, the craftsmanship was simply breathtaking. This week's post marks the release of a new Pink Tutu design from "The Tutu Tailor of Vienna!" They say they are " inspired by the exquisite hand craftsmanship of the Vienna Opera Ballet." I am thrilled to be collaborating on this new range for Pink-tutu.com. I'm sure you all agree: fashion and ballet, what could be better?
Friday: Waltz Away the Hours
Vienna is, of course, famous for its waltzes. I wouldn’t miss a trip to the Kursalon Wien for an evening of music and waltzing for anything. They brought to life the elegance of this timeless dance, making my heart swoon. And the most wonderful thing? The dancers and musicians wore vibrant pink accents as a nod to "The Pink Tutu Tour!" I may even have taken a turn on the dance floor myself! (You can bet those gorgeous pink pointe shoes from the "Tutu Tailor of Vienna” got their moment in the spotlight!).
Saturday: Ballet's Royal Connections and a Bit of Shopping Therapy
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to the Schönbrunn Palace! The magnificent Imperial Palace is dripping in grandeur and elegance and the perfect reminder of Vienna’s rich history. A visit to the Palace Museum showcased the Imperial Ballet's dazzling costumes and stories of how dance played a key role in the life of Austrian royalty. Of course, with a bit of extra time, a pit stop for a shopping spree on Kärntner Strasse, was in order! I picked up a new hat to go with a spectacular pair of gloves I've just discovered, perfect for pairing with my Vienna pink tutu creation. I am sure this stunning hat would perfectly adorn a Parisian ballerina... and I just couldn't leave without it!
Sunday: Saying "Servus" to Vienna!
Vienna, you've been a whirlwind of enchanting experiences! The city has such a unique spirit, brimming with history, culture, and artistry. It's a place that captures your heart and makes you want to dance your way through life. From the majestic Opera to the enchanting streets and the captivating world of the Viennese Waltz, this city is certainly a perfect stop on my Ballet by Train journey. But sadly, it is time to bid Servus to Vienna!
I'm ready to hop on the next train with my pink tutu in tow. Who knows where I'll be headed next? I hope to be on a sunny Spanish beach next week for my annual "Pink Tutu and Flamenco Dance Weekend!"
