Vienna, darling! Ballet, Bows, and Bubblegum Pink: Post 1743

Hello my dears! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, writing to you from the utterly enchanting city of Vienna. Every Wednesday, rain or shine, you'll find my pink tulle fluttering its way to you from wherever I'm exploring, and this week, Vienna has captured my heart (and my camera).

As always, my trusty pink suitcase is filled to the brim with my favourite tutus, this time, in every shade of blush, bubblegum, and candy floss pink you can imagine. And of course, my trusty pair of sparkly pink ballet shoes, ready to dance across Vienna's cobbled streets.

Oh, Vienna! It's simply overflowing with the magic of ballet history. It feels like the very air whispers the names of legendary dancers and the rustle of satin tutus. The Vienna State Opera House, an opulent architectural masterpiece, has hosted legendary ballerinas and I'm going to see Swan Lake there this evening. Can you even imagine?! I can almost hear the tutus swishing on stage right now!

Yesterday, I found myself at the Vienna Ballet Academy, mesmerized by a class full of tiny little ballerinas in their own, adorable, pink tutus! They were practicing with such dedication and grace – it reminded me of why I fell in love with this graceful artform all those years ago in Derbyshire, back when I would twirl my little heart out in my bedroom, wearing my first, hand-stitched, pink tutu. My mum was the best, wasn't she?

But, the story doesn't end with classical ballet. Oh no, Vienna's dance scene is anything but conventional. There's a whole street theatre culture here, vibrant and exciting, with performers in outrageous costumes and tutus galore! One minute you might see a flamboyant drag queen performing to pop tunes on a street corner, and the next, a contemporary ballet troupe in a beautiful courtyard, exploring the depths of human emotion. It's all breathtakingly gorgeous!

Yesterday, I went on the most magical adventure. You see, Vienna isn't all about grand architecture and ornate buildings - there’s beautiful countryside just a short horse ride from the city! I hopped onto a majestic chestnut mare called Luna and took a leisurely trot through meadows filled with wildflowers. I wore my favourite pink tutu, of course, because why not?! It felt like a scene from a ballet! The gentle sway of the horse and the light breeze ruffling my pink tulle – it was pure joy.

Talking of joyful things, my friends, let’s talk about the food. Vienna is a true foodie paradise! This morning, I enjoyed the most delightful Viennese breakfast of pastries and coffee. They call it “Wiener Frühstück" and it was positively decadent. And, believe it or not, I even discovered a boutique entirely dedicated to tutus and tutus! This was pure magic. Imagine an entire shop dedicated to twirling and dancing, filled with layers upon layers of tulle, velvet and lace. It was an absolute dream. I snagged a glorious new tutu in a soft, delicate pink, so soft you'd think it was made out of clouds. I just had to get it, it’s perfect for a Viennese evening in a beautifully restored carriage.

My trip is still ongoing, and I'll be back with more exciting updates and a peek into my Vienna ballet performance next week. You can join my pink tulle journey on Wednesday.

So until then, twirl on, my loves!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
