Hello darlings, it’s Wednesday, so you know what that means - another magical journey to Vienna with your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma! I'm practically bursting with excitement to share this week’s adventures, which have taken me through grand theatres, enchanting cobbled streets, and even a horse-drawn carriage ride - how utterly delightful!
Vienna, oh Vienna, how I adore you! You truly are the epitome of elegant charm. Your palaces are magnificent, your architecture stunning, and your coffee... oh, my darling, your coffee! I just can’t get enough. But Vienna's not just about historical grandeur, you know. This city has a heart-warming vibrancy that draws you in and makes you feel right at home. I found myself surrounded by artists, musicians, and dancers at every turn. There's such a wonderful creative energy in the air, it just fills you up with joy.
Speaking of joy, I've been busy making my way through Vienna’s stunning theatres this week. A few weeks back I was captivated by a performance at the Volksoper Wien, with a set and costumes that could only be described as ‘outrageous’ in the best way possible. This week I’ve discovered the beautiful Vienna State Opera House - a masterpiece in itself. The sheer scale of the place had me absolutely awestruck. I imagined all the legendary ballet and opera performances that had graced the stage throughout its long history - oh, it made me shiver with delight!
Now, of course, a visit to Vienna is never complete without a dose of ballet. Last week I danced my way to the Staatsoper Wien (Vienna State Opera House) to watch the incredible ballet performance of ‘Swan Lake’ - my absolute favourite. I don’t mind admitting I got completely lost in the intricate movements of the ballerinas and the romance of the story. The energy in that space, from both the dancers and the audience, was truly electric! And my pink tutu, naturally, felt perfectly in place among all the elegant tutus onstage! It’s like they just complement each other. I’m already plotting my return to see more, and perhaps even take some ballet lessons, maybe from one of Vienna’s illustrious schools! Oh the fun I shall have!
A touch of whimsy always finds its way into my adventures and, oh, wouldn't you know it, I discovered the most adorable shop this week - tucked away in the cobbled streets behind the Volksoper Wien - it's called ‘Ballettboutique’ (I had to take a double take when I saw the name!), filled with exquisite tutus of every hue and style. The shopkeeper was a kind woman, quite elderly, who reminded me of my Granny (though much more fashionable!), and told me that she was a former ballet dancer who dreamt of making every little girl a princess with a perfect tutu. She’s certainly made me very happy with a couple of delightful little gifts I picked up, for myself and for my best friend who lives in a small village in Derbyshire (she always loved my pink tutu). And what a delightful place to discover it – I may need to move into Vienna just to be near that lovely little shop!
The fashion scene here is absolutely phenomenal, by the way! Vienna’s stylish streets just teem with inspiration. I have fallen head over heels with their exquisite shops that sell clothing that makes you feel utterly feminine and glamorous – the kinds of outfits that scream “Look at me, I’m amazing”! I even spotted a lovely antique shop near St Stephen’s Cathedral filled with vintage gowns and accessories – so glamorous! If you ever find yourself lost in the beautiful streets of Vienna, you might just bump into me in a delightful, vintage, pink outfit! Oh, and I’ve managed to squeeze in a spot of horse riding with a charming gentleman who told me he loved the vibrant color of my tutu! I told him he might just be the perfect gentleman to whisk me around the world – who knows? It might happen!
Speaking of horse riding, my darlings, the Viennese love their horses. Every day, in the centre of Vienna, I watch carriages filled with happy couples, friends, and families gracefully trundle along the cobbles, their horses pulling them along. And even I gave in to the allure of this most romantic of transportation methods – you can be sure you will find pictures of me enjoying this most delightful experience, wearing, of course, my favourite pink tutu. Oh, darling, don’t be shocked if one day you see a horse-drawn carriage speeding down your local street – it’s quite possible I’m in the carriage trying to make the world fall in love with the beauty of the tutu!
I promise, darlings, I have only scratched the surface of all the fantastic things that Vienna has to offer. I just can't wait to come back, to discover even more amazing cafes and historical treasures that await! But I’m heading home to Derbyshire for a few days. It’ll be good to feel the fresh air of the Derbyshire countryside. You know it has some gorgeous views - especially with a pink tutu against a clear blue sky!
Oh, one final thought! As we enter October, a season of spooks and spooktacular costumes! Here in Vienna, we’re already feeling the excitement of ‘Halloween’, though it seems they call it ‘Halloween-esque’ or something like that - they're a little more refined in their vocabulary here - the elegance is everywhere, even in Halloween! But let's not forget that pink can also be scary, right? You can just imagine, the look on someone's face when they encounter a pink, frightening ballerina in the dark! This could be the new Halloween fashion trend, don’t you think?
Until next Wednesday, my darlings, I send you my warmest wishes,
Love,
Emma
