Hello, my darling darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving, travel-obsessed ballerina, Emma, here, and today I'm writing to you from the magical city of Vienna! ????
Vienna. A name that whispers of waltzing in grand ballrooms, of elegant coffee houses, of majestic architecture, and yes, even of a certain famous composer called Mozart (though, of course, he had absolutely nothing to do with pink tutus, tut tut!).
This Wednesday marks the 1747th blog post on my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, and you all know the drill: every Wednesday, I’ll be taking you on a new adventure with me. I might be at a performance, on the train, indulging in some luxurious retail therapy, or like today, exploring a new city – always in the most fabulous fashion, naturally!
And Vienna? It's a city made for pink tutus, my friends.
It's a city that's steeped in history, yet simultaneously bursting with life and laughter. Every cobbled street tells a story, every building whispers secrets of emperors and waltzes. But don't worry, we'll be uncovering those secrets with plenty of pink, sparkle, and – of course – a few twirls along the way!
This trip to Vienna has been a whirlwind of culture, creativity, and delicious pastries (I simply can't resist those flaky Viennese apple strudels!). It started, as all good adventures should, with a romantic train journey across the European countryside. I must admit, a plush train carriage with my very own window seat is one of the best things ever, especially when it’s an excuse to wear a fluffy pink cardigan with delicate tulle trim!
Now, you know me well. Ballet is my lifeblood, my passion, the very core of my being. And Vienna is a paradise for any ballerina enthusiast. Imagine waltzing past magnificent fountains, with the strains of Strauss filling the air. I haven't felt this much at home in ages!
But it wasn’t all ballet, although my latest performance at the grand Vienna State Opera House (where the legendary Mozart himself once trod the boards!) definitely had a big role to play in my travel budget! ? You see, I’m incredibly lucky that my passion for ballet doesn’t just feed my soul – it also helps to fund my incredible journeys! You know, twirling for my travel fund! ??✈️
One of my favourite things about Vienna is the Wiener Staatsoper, the grand Vienna State Opera. I absolutely adore a good opera performance, even more so when accompanied by a truly beautiful venue! They’re showing a brilliant production of Swan Lake tonight, with the most elegant choreography. I was so excited that I managed to snag a pair of tickets just this morning – imagine how fantastic it’ll be! This is the kind of show you want to watch while wearing your most sparkly pink tutu, am I right?!
And what about shopping? Oh my, my sweet loves, the shops here are an absolute delight. Vienna is a city with a rich cultural heritage – not to mention a very stylish fashion scene – and that means everything from beautifully crafted fabrics and exquisite antiques to incredible shoe shops (I do adore a new pair of pink ballet shoes) – just bursting with vintage treasures! ??️
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without visiting some of the most important landmarks. I have my list all set. I must visit the iconic Hofburg Palace, Vienna's very own palace with stunning gardens. There's a grand old world elegance about the place, like it’s stepping straight out of a fairy tale, complete with cobblestone courtyards and intricate stonework. They have a fabulous fashion exhibit in the museum, showing the history of couture – I’ll be sure to show you what the ladies wore in the days of Mozart and before!
Another top destination for my itinerary? The Schönbrunn Palace. Imagine gardens as sprawling as the most stunning ball gowns, perfect for twirling under a beautiful Viennese sky! It's simply a masterpiece of baroque architecture with enough lush gardens to create a beautiful photoshoot with my tutu!
But, my loves, what's a blog about Vienna without some fun Viennese traditions? From the beautiful music of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (even though my favourite kind of music is when you hear the audience clapping as a ballerina comes out for her curtain call after a perfect performance!), to the delicious Sachertorte (a rich chocolate cake that is so decadent, it simply has to be tasted to be believed), Vienna is a place where culture and creativity collide. It’s truly magical!
Let me tell you a little secret – when I'm on the streets of Vienna, I swear I can hear the whispers of waltz music on the wind! So, while the city might be famous for its music, there’s a hidden passion here, for ballet, that runs like an underground current. And for someone who has travelled the world over in pursuit of beautiful costumes and magical performances, I have to say, Vienna's got it all. The city has completely won over this ballerina.
But hey, who am I kidding? My love for this city will always be just a little bit tutu-licious! I simply cannot wait to discover more of the beauty and joy that this fabulous place has to offer!
