It’s Wednesday, which means another week has whizzed by, leaving a trail of twinkling sequins and perfectly-executed pirouettes in its wake. This week, I've been busy exploring the majestic avenues and charming coffee houses of Vienna, but all with a special destination in mind – the Wiener Staatsoper. This iconic opera house is the beating heart of Vienna's musical scene, and it was simply irresistible to a pink-tutu-clad ballerina like myself.
But before I step into the world of grand opera, I wanted to take a moment to share a bit of a personal update. You know how I'm all about encouraging everyone to wear a pink tutu? Well, it seems my mission has been embraced in the most magical way! Remember that lovely chap I met on the train from Budapest? Well, he's a fellow ballerina, and guess what? He's adopted a baby pink tutu for his stage costume! The world is definitely embracing pink, one twirl at a time. ?
Anyway, back to Vienna! As I mentioned, the Wiener Staatsoper is a true marvel. Imagine soaring ceilings, gilded balconies, and a sense of history that resonates through every corner. Just entering the building felt like stepping into a fairytale. It's no wonder that Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, and countless other musical geniuses have graced this very stage.
I was incredibly lucky to score tickets to see Don Giovanni, a classic Mozart opera that absolutely transported me to another world. The costumes, the music, the energy – it was all simply spellbinding. I particularly loved the scene where Donna Anna, in a breathtaking sapphire gown, mourns the loss of her father. It was a perfect display of opera’s dramatic power.
Now, you all know I love a bit of shopping, and Vienna is a haven for vintage clothing stores. This week, I found a pink vintage bolero that looked straight out of a ballet recital, complete with sparkling beading and a whimsical design. It was perfect for adding a touch of ballet glamour to my outfit for the opera.
After the opera, we wandered the streets, enjoying the gentle buzz of Viennese life. We strolled along the Ringstraße, marvelling at the grand architecture, and had a traditional Viennese coffee at one of the many charming coffee houses. The evening air was filled with music, laughter, and the scent of freshly baked pastries – a symphony of sensory delights! ☕️?
And for all you budding ballerinas out there, I'm happy to share a secret - Viennese waltz lessons! They offer the most graceful and elegant way to get a feel for the rhythm of Vienna. Let's just say that my dancing is even more refined after a couple of lessons with a Viennese dance instructor.
My trip to Vienna has been a dream come true. This city pulsates with art, music, and a sophisticated charm. It’s a place where the spirit of classical music truly thrives, and where pink tutus are most certainly appreciated!
