Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, back from another fabulous adventure. This time, I've traded the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the elegant charm of Vienna!
The moment I arrived at Vienna's Hauptbahnhof station, the air thrummed with the sound of music. (Seriously, I think there was an accordion player serenading a group of pigeons!). I'd arrived just in time to experience Vienna at its most enchanting - a perfect blend of waltzing elegance and historical charm, and of course, a fantastic ballet scene!
You can’t have Vienna without a dash of imperial grandeur, right? I spent my first afternoon exploring the Hofburg Palace. Imagine! Ballroom after ballroom, each shimmering with gilded details and historical whispers. They truly lived lavishly, even back then, but just wait till I get my hands on the historical costume archives!
This was a little trip to explore all things ballet, so what better way to do so than with a ballet show? Tonight was my chance to experience the Vienna State Opera in all its glory! The grand theatre itself is like a beautiful, opulent dollhouse. I'm still swooning over the chandelier and those box seats! Oh, and the show itself, The Nutcracker was utterly magical, the ballerinas pirouetted and leaped with such effortless grace and the music transported me to a wonderland. Every movement was poetry in motion - my tutu nearly went into overdrive from sheer delight. I've got to get tickets to the Sleeping Beauty while I'm here, it's absolutely legendary!
I had to break up the ballet extravaganza with some shopping, and oh darling, Vienna has me truly smitten. Every store seemed to be draped in intricate lace and shimmering silks. Imagine the tutus you could design with fabrics like this!
But hold on, what would a trip to Vienna be without indulging in the delicious pastries? I tried out one of the legendary Sachertortes - decadent, rich and with just the right hint of bitter chocolate. It truly felt like a slice of Viennese history!
Speaking of history, did you know that Vienna boasts some of the world's finest dance archives? I plan to lose myself in them for a few days, uncovering forgotten tutu styles and waltzing fashion from centuries past! This is what dreams are made of!
As always, my trusty travel companions are my pink tutu and a camera that clicks more frequently than a metronome! After all, you never know what inspiring details you'll discover. I mean, have you ever spotted a more vibrant pink than the blooms adorning the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens? I was positively breathless!
Now, tomorrow, I have a delightful day planned. First, a morning horse-drawn carriage ride through the city centre. How civilised! I must admit, I do love to make an entrance - think regal swans, but in pink tutu of course! Then it’s back to the ballet world to explore the Vienna Ballet Academy. Just picture the incredible stories these students have already made - and the potential for their futures. It truly is such a magical place, especially for someone like me.
Don't worry, I’ll share all the details with you on Wednesday! For now, keep dancing!
