#PinkTutuVienna - Post #1780: Whirlwind in Vienna, where Tutus and Trachten Collide!

Hello, darling tutu-lovers! It’s Emma from Derbyshire, reporting live from the whimsical, waltzing world of Vienna! ? This week’s #PinkTutuVienna post is bursting with excitement – a whirlwind of Viennese charm, a sprinkle of fairytale, and, of course, the glorious twirl of tutus!

As usual, I made my way here by train – oh, the romance of watching the world roll by in a comfy carriage! (I just had to wear my most vibrant pink tutu for the journey, of course. How else could one announce their arrival in style?) I arrived at the Hauptbahnhof (that’s Central Station in German for the non-ballet-fluent!) with a flurry of tulle and excitement.

And oh my dear readers, what a delight awaits! Today is June 13th and it’s the opening night of the annual Schönbrunn Palace Garden Theatre Festival, featuring none other than the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra! A Viennese Waltz night at Schönbrunn? You know I wouldn’t miss it for the world! The imperial gardens, the romantic atmosphere, the magic of the music… my little tutu-loving heart is about to burst! I'm already envisioning myself gliding across the manicured lawns, surrounded by the glittering chandeliers of the Palace.

Speaking of glitz and glamour, let’s talk about the outfits! Vienna has a unique sense of style, and the locals are sure to impress! We have Dirndl, those beautiful traditional dresses, with their intricate embroideries and colorful ribbons, and the Lederhose – dashing leather breeches for the gentlemen. I spotted a man on my walk earlier who looked like he'd just stepped out of a Strauss opera, the Lederhose fit so well and the little feathered hat tilted perfectly – swoon-worthy!

Now, no waltz is complete without the perfect waltz gown, so of course I've had to indulge in a little shopping! Vienna has the most stunning selection of fabrics and textiles, with boutiques and markets offering vintage pieces and handcrafted treasures that could rival the most glamorous ballerina's costume. I picked up the most incredible silk ribbon - an elegant deep rose shade - to embellish my new tutu! It’s going to be an absolute knockout, darling!

While on the subject of costumes - did you know the Vienna State Opera, which I'm planning to visit on my trip, has the most exquisite collection of vintage ballet costumes? There's even a special exhibition, and I simply HAVE to see it! The intricate beading, the soft fabrics, the delicate embroidery... it's an art form in itself. The whole experience is a masterclass in fashion and history, a testament to the enduring power of dance.

But it’s not just about the performances, my dears! The Viennese café culture is just so romantic. Imagine: sitting beneath an awning with a beautifully painted ceiling, a glass of delicious iced coffee (because darling, Vienna summers can be HOT), and the sound of chatter and music drifting through the air… absolute perfection. I think I might just write a whole blog post just on my coffee experiences, what do you say?

This city truly feels like a living, breathing fairytale, with its palaces, gardens, and museums brimming with art, history, and the echoes of centuries past. And, of course, its love for music and dance is a timeless tradition. You see, this week is all about embracing the extravagant glamour of a bygone era, with a dash of modern-day pink tutu charm, just how I like it!

And guess what, I’ll be attending the waltz at Schönbrunn tonight in my brand new pink tutu with the rose-colored ribbon - it’s going to be the most beautiful performance. I might even find myself twirling on the dance floor – why, I just might be a princess for the evening! ?

So, darling readers, Stay tuned for all the Vienna updates! There are tutu-ful experiences coming your way all week long! And don't forget: the world is your dance floor! Go out there and twirl your way to happiness, darling, just remember: always wear pink!

Lots of love and tutu-ful twirls,

Emma
