Greetings, my dearest tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma, your resident Pink Tutu traveller, back from a whirlwind week in the enchanting city of Vienna! As always, I packed my trusty pink tutu (naturally) and set off on another exciting adventure, this time, fuelled by the energy of waltzing horses and the elegant spirit of Viennese waltzes.
This week in Vienna, it’s all about ballet, and my beloved pink tutu had its fair share of adventures! I started the week with a captivating performance of "Swan Lake" at the magnificent Vienna State Opera House. Oh, the grace, the power, the beauty! Seeing the ballerinas gliding across the stage, their tutus billowing like swans' feathers, sent shivers down my spine. And let's talk about the costumes - oh, the tutus! White, black, shimmering silver – it was a tutu-lovers' dream come true.
But the magic wasn't limited to the stage. After the show, I wandered the cobbled streets of Vienna's inner city, marveling at the magnificent architecture and indulging in a Viennese Sachertorte at Café Sacher – it's simply the best!
My quest for sartorial brilliance led me to the heart of Viennese fashion - the "Modehaus Ludwig Baumann". This department store is a veritable wonderland of colour and style, and it wasn't long before I found myself swept up in the world of haute couture. From elaborate evening gowns to quirky designer pieces, this shop offers everything a fashionista could desire. It was like stepping into a glamorous film set!
Vienna, being a city rich in history and culture, presented the perfect opportunity for me to delve into the history of ballet, especially in Austria. The Vienna State Opera House holds an incredible collection of antique ballet posters and costume designs, and it’s a truly mesmerising experience to see these relics from ballet history.
Naturally, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the "Spanish Riding School." To witness these magnificent Lipizzaner stallions dancing their graceful routines, their coats glistening in the golden afternoon sunlight, is something truly magical. Watching them perform was like witnessing a ballet class on four legs, their movements so refined and elegant.
I even found time to join a ballet class at the Vienna Dance Academy. You see, the world of dance never stops spinning for this tutu-wearing gal. It's truly fascinating to be part of this vibrant, international dance community in Vienna, learning from incredible teachers, and expanding my dance skills.
Speaking of tutus, let’s have a moment to talk about tutu history. In Vienna, they call them the “Tanzschösser” (dance dress) and the historical styles are quite interesting. I fell in love with a design I saw on a costume sketch for “Die Fledermaus.” It was a large, feathered tutu in soft, pastel tones – a delightful take on Viennese romanticism.
One of my favorite discoveries this week was the “Ballet for Kids” performance at the Theater an der Wien. Seeing the bright smiles on the children’s faces and the joyful movement was infectious! And, as you might imagine, the costumes were pretty amazing - playful colours, whimsical designs, just what you’d expect from a ballet geared toward the younger crowd. It’s always great to inspire young ballerinas, encouraging their creativity and sparking their love of dance!
However, my time in Vienna was flying by at a dizzying pace! There was so much to see, do, and experience - every corner had a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered!
On my last evening, I savoured the beautiful “Evening in Vienna” concert. Classical music performed under the starry night sky - an exceptional experience that truly captured the spirit of this city! As I listened to the music and gazed at the twinkling city lights, I felt a sense of immense gratitude for this magical journey!
So, there you have it, my friends! Vienna: A city of elegance, music, art, and of course, tutus!
This week has been nothing short of extraordinary!
What’s the pink tutu vibe? It’s all about sharing joy, spreading smiles, and making a statement in this colourful world of ours.
I leave Vienna filled with inspiration and longing to return soon. But first, I need to prepare for my next adventure. And yes, my trusty pink tutu will be by my side!
