Vienna, my darlings! The sun is shining, the coffee is flowing, and I'm wearing a glorious hot pink tutu, all perfectly matched to my Vienna State Opera ticket. Oh, the joys!
This week has been a whirlwind of tutus, trains and the most magnificent* opera house you've ever seen! It started, as most of my journeys do, with a train journey – the most romantic way to travel, I find.
I'm not one for cramped aeroplanes or rumbling busses. A train journey gives you time to admire the countryside, to daydream, to sip tea (or, in my case, a bubbly pink lemonade) and perhaps even design a new tutu. After all, my trip to Vienna was partially inspired by the grand, elaborate tutus of the Vienna State Ballet. There's a special kind of magic when the stage lights catch a multi-layered tutu in full flight!
Of course, Vienna itself is like a tutu spun from magic. From the beautiful baroque architecture, to the quaint cafes, and the stunning* Vienna State Opera house – everything about this city whispers of history, grandeur, and yes, pink tutus!
Speaking of history, did you know that Vienna has been home to ballet for centuries? It’s the home of legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova, and boasts some of the world’s oldest ballet schools! And the passion for ballet here…well, it's a feeling you just can't escape!
This week's adventures included:
The Vienna State Opera:
Firstly, the grandiose exterior of the Opera house itself is a thing of beauty! But inside, the whole experience feels like you’re stepping into a real-life fairytale. You’re surrounded by gold, velvet, and incredible craftsmanship - it's enough to make any tutu-wearing girl swoon!
Of course, I wouldn’t miss a performance for the world! We watched the stunning Swan Lake ballet, and I was absolutely captivated by the dancers. Their tutus, all airy and dreamlike in delicate white, swirled and danced around the stage, telling their own tale! I must admit, my new tutu design, with its cascading layers of rose pink tulle and sparkling embellishments, may be making an appearance in the very same house soon! Who knows? Fingers crossed…
Shopping Spree:
No trip to Vienna is complete without a shopping spree. And thankfully, the city is a paradise for the discerning ballet enthusiast and pink-loving individual!
Firstly, I discovered the most divine millinery shop near Stephansplatz. Hats, bonnets, feathers... you name it! Of course, I couldn’t leave without a magnificent pink straw hat, adorned with delicate tulle, that's just perfect for my next performance.
But my favourite find? A little boutique tucked away down a cobbled street specializing in all things tutu! We're talking silks, satin, lace, and a kaleidoscope of colour. I lost myself in a sea of tulle, and emerged with the most beautiful pink fabric, just the thing to inspire my new collection!
Tutu Inspiration:
Every place I go inspires me! Vienna is brimming with beauty, so naturally I’m brimming with ideas for new tutu designs. I imagine shimmering gold and elegant ivory tutus reflecting the opulence of Schönbrunn Palace, or whimsical purple and pink designs to mirror the magic of the Wiener Prater amusement park. Perhaps even a vibrant turquoise and lilac design that dances along the River Danube…
But no matter what the design, pink is always at the core, just like my heart! After all, it’s not a trip to Vienna if it doesn’t inspire a touch of pink-tutu magic, isn’t it?
Oh, and there’s more…
My Vienna blog won't be complete without mentioning the incredible pastries, especially the Sachertorte! A Vienna classic, rich with chocolate and cherry, and yes, you guessed it, perfectly pink in the centre. My afternoon tea just wouldn't be complete without one!
As the sun sets over this magnificent city, and the enchanting waltz tunes from the Opera house float on the breeze, I know I've found my pink-tutu paradise!
And remember, darlings, wherever you are, you too can spread the joy of the pink tutu! Just embrace your inner ballerina, twirl with joy, and show the world your unique tutu style.
Until next time, Vienna! And don't forget to follow my pink tutu adventures on www.pink-tutu.com
Love, Emma
