Hello, my darling Tutu-lovers!
It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for a new #PinkTutuVienna blog post! Today, I'm whisking you all off to Vienna, the heart of waltz and the land of exquisite coffee and delicious pastries. As you know, I simply cannot resist the lure of a city rich in history and beauty, especially one so renowned for its love of ballet and fashion. And Vienna, my friends, truly delivers on both fronts!
My journey began in Derbyshire, as always, with the crisp autumn air carrying the scent of wood smoke and fallen leaves. My travel companion for this trip? The ever-reliable and glamorous "Orient Express" - a train that's as much a spectacle as the destinations it traverses. It was an absolute treat, I must tell you. The carriage was so luxurious it was almost unbelievable – imagine plush velvet seating, flickering candlelight, and the soft strains of classical music, the perfect soundtrack for a journey to a city of imperial grandeur!
The arrival in Vienna itself was magical. The city’s historic centre seemed to shimmer in the October sunshine, a tapestry woven with majestic buildings, cobbled streets and bustling squares. As I stepped out of the station, I was greeted by a vibrant energy – musicians busking with joyful melodies, street artists painting vibrant portraits, and tourists with curious glances, some even whispering “oh, she's wearing a pink tutu!” It’s always delightful to witness how much attention a pink tutu can draw in the most unexpected of places.
Now, onto the pièce de résistance - the ballet! Vienna's Opera House is a jewel of architectural splendour. And inside? Even more stunning, a grand interior worthy of the greatest opera singers and ballet dancers. I witnessed an enchanting production of Swan Lake, the ethereal beauty of the choreography, the expressive storytelling of the dancers, it was breathtaking. It felt like the very air in the theatre itself was imbued with grace and elegance. My tutu twirled in joyful anticipation as the applause rolled on, echoing the pure magic of the performance.
Vienna is truly a city that whispers elegance. But let's not forget, it's also a city that knows how to celebrate. After the ballet, a group of friends and I (who also have a penchant for twirling in pink tutus) decided to partake in Vienna’s legendary nightlife. It seems every cobbled street transforms into a hub of delicious smells and delightful conversation. From traditional Austrian pubs with their warm ambiance to modern cocktail bars pulsing with energy, every corner of Vienna offered a different experience. We sampled local specialties (the Wiener Schnitzel was divine, of course!) and sipped on Viennese coffee. Every moment was a symphony of taste and conversation, just the way I like it!
The following day, I had an incredible experience visiting the Hofburg Palace. Its intricate grandeur and the stories it whispered about history, royalty, and art left me utterly speechless. The royal court ballet traditions had to have been the most impressive, a beautiful glimpse into the past! Of course, a visit to the city wouldn’t be complete without experiencing the magic of Schönbrunn Palace. Its beautiful gardens were teeming with vibrant blooms and the golden hues of autumn leaves.
I explored the charming shops, browsing for souvenirs and the perfect tutu-inspired outfit for a grand gala in the evening (because one must never miss an opportunity for a twirl or two). I also stopped for a bite of Sachertorte (an utterly divine chocolate cake), savouring the flavour and reminiscing about all the fascinating places I had explored throughout the day.
Shopping Spotlight:
This week, my tutu-loving heart was aflutter with joy! My wardrobe needs were well catered for in Vienna.
Mariahilfer Straße: I had a fabulous time at Vienna Fashion Outlet. A veritable paradise of designer clothes and accessories with fantastic discounts, you can imagine how excited I was! A glorious symphony of pink tutus filled my daydreams - it's where I found a stunning silk tulle tutu, soft as a dream and perfect for waltzing in.
Golden Quarter: Vienna's Golden Quarter is a treasure trove of elegant boutiques. The Freytag & Bertle boutique captured my eye with its stunning collection of classic ball gowns - pure elegance and perfect for a royal soirée.
Naschmarkt: I spent a good hour at the Naschmarkt browsing the stalls bursting with delicious fruit and vegetables and the array of unique trinkets and gifts. The market has such a charming atmosphere, a vibrant blend of old world charm and trendy cafes - perfect for finding some unusual, beautiful pieces to add to my collection.
Fun Fact: Vienna is known as the "City of Music." Did you know that a third of all waltz compositions were composed in Vienna, between 1815 and 1850? Just another reason why Vienna and I, with our mutual love for dance, are made for each other!
Vienna has truly captivated my heart! I've waltzed through cobblestone streets, gazed at historical monuments with awestruck eyes, and sipped coffee in chic cafes, all while wearing a beautiful pink tutu that twirled and danced to the city's vibrant rhythm.
As I leave Vienna today, I’ll take with me the melody of its music, the richness of its history, and the sheer delight of experiencing a city so full of life. And to those of you reading this, remember, wear pink tutus proudly. They'll make the world a more colourful, joyful, and inspiring place!
Until next week, stay stylish and keep twirling!
Love, Emma
