Hello my darlings! Emma here, and it's Wednesday, so that means it's time for another post from yours truly, straight from the heart of Vienna! I've just popped my pink tutu on and, oh my, the weather here is just glorious – a crisp December morning with that wintery sunshine that makes everything sparkle.
Now, this is not just any Wednesday, though. Today's date is the 5th December 2029, which means it's time for the annual Vienna Ballet Gala. This is, hands down, my favourite day of the entire year. Every ballerina dreams of dancing in Vienna, with its rich history of dance and the glorious Vienna State Opera House. This year's gala theme is "Dreams of Sugar Plum Fairy" which, to be honest, is giving me all the twirls.
To make the occasion extra special, I've treated myself to a new pink tutu just for this evening – I know, I know, a pink tutu is never truly out of place, but this one is simply divine! It’s a shimmering tulle confection with hand-sewn pink and silver flowers cascading around the skirt, with the most adorable fluffy pink tutu under skirt and a little matching bow for my hair.
Vienna – A Ballerina's Paradise
Before I get swept up in all the excitement of the Gala, I thought it might be nice to take a step back and appreciate this extraordinary city. I'm utterly charmed by Vienna, truly. The cobblestone streets, the grand buildings with their baroque facades, and the enchanting music that spills out of cafes on every corner - it feels like a storybook come to life.
Vienna has always been a city synonymous with music, of course, with legends like Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss leaving their indelible mark on the world. However, Vienna also holds a special place in the history of ballet. Did you know that Vienna hosted one of the first ever ballet academies in Europe? Talk about history in the making! I found myself getting lost for hours in the Austrian National Library, surrounded by dusty tomes chronicling centuries of dance history. Imagine – there I was, surrounded by manuscripts that recounted the first steps of ballerinas centuries ago!
And speaking of steps, what better way to explore Vienna than on a gentle stroll with my trusty four-legged friend, Poppy? Poppy's my miniature Shetland pony. (Did I tell you she can wear a tiny pink tutu too?! She's quite the star on the Vienna promenade.) Every morning, we set out together, sniffing out charming boutiques and charming cafés. (Coffee and strudel are definitely a highlight!) Vienna's just brimming with vintage shops – they're my absolute favourite. There's always a treasure to be unearthed in these little havens.
Finding Magic in Ballet
It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Vienna blog post without talking about ballet, would it? I've been lucky enough to catch some absolutely breathtaking performances this week. The Vienna State Opera put on a fantastic performance of "The Nutcracker", complete with spectacular set designs, sparkling costumes, and a cast of truly talented dancers. They’re taking ballet to a whole new level. It truly was magical.
This is exactly the kind of experience that makes my heart sing, you know? It’s about more than just dancing; it’s about passion, creativity, and a dedication to artistry. It’s about the joy of sharing beauty with the world.
Bringing a Touch of Pink Tutu Magic to You
But Vienna is not just about performances and museums. It's also about the vibrant street scene, the cafes bustling with locals and tourists, and the delicious smell of pastries baking in the air. Just walking down the Graben, past the beautifully decorated shop fronts, you can't help but feel like you're in a fairy tale. And the Graben, let's face it, is not just a street - it’s a catwalk!
This week, I've been on a serious mission to find the perfect pink dress for tonight's Gala. And let me tell you, Vienna is the perfect playground for fashion enthusiasts like me. I found a delightful little boutique tucked away on a quiet side street with the most beautiful collection of vintage and new designs. After much deliberation, I decided on a stunning fuchsia silk dress with intricate embroidery – absolutely perfect! (But, of course, it wouldn't be complete without a pink tulle overlay, because let’s face it, everything needs a little pink tutu magic!)
The best part about these little finds is sharing them with you all. I try to make sure all the pink-tutu-worthy pieces that I come across in Vienna make their way onto my "Pink Tutu Boutique" website. If you're a pink lover like me, then it’s the place to be!
A Pink Tutu Filled Christmas in Vienna
Oh, and I’ve already started getting into the festive mood! Vienna truly comes alive in December with all the Christmas markets. Imagine: a beautiful square adorned with glittering Christmas lights, with wooden stalls filled with handcrafted gifts and delicious food. There’s mulled wine for the grown-ups, roasted chestnuts for everyone, and festive music floating in the crisp winter air. It’s pure enchantment, my lovelies.
Christmas in Vienna is also a beautiful opportunity to embrace the warmth and kindness that the season brings. This year, I'll be volunteering at a local soup kitchen to bring some holiday cheer to those less fortunate. It's a small way to give back, but every little bit helps, doesn’t it?
I must say, I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here in Vienna. This city has truly captured my heart with its elegance, its history, and its incredible ballet scene. And let's face it, it doesn't hurt that everything here looks perfectly fabulous in pink!
Until next week, my dear friends, stay sparkling, and always remember – the world is your stage, so don't forget to wear your pink tutu and twirl with confidence!
With love,
Emma
P.S. Be sure to check back next Wednesday for more exciting adventures in pink! And, if you're ever in Vienna, please feel free to come say hello. We could always share a cup of hot chocolate, a strudel, and a good dose of pink tutu magic!
