Good morning from a sunny Vienna, my lovelies! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post!
I'm back in my favourite city, Vienna, and let me tell you, it feels like coming home. There's just something about this grand, elegant city that makes my heart skip a beat. The architecture, the history, the waltz… even the cobblestones whisper secrets of bygone eras. And naturally, this city has a beautiful ballet heritage! Just the thought of the Vienna State Opera is enough to get me all aflutter, but more on that later!
First things first, let’s talk tutus, darlings! This week, I’m embracing the classic, with a beautiful blush pink, voluminous, single-layered tutu with a stunningly intricate silver beaded belt. I couldn't resist adding a touch of vintage charm with a cherry red, wide-brimmed hat. A splash of colour against Vienna's charming old-world backdrop, I tell you! And wouldn't you know it, I managed to find the most delightful shop on my travels: "La Belle Tulle." Just the name screams Parisian elegance! I’m not allowed to tell you the exact address (it's top secret), but I do know it’s hidden on a quiet cobbled street in the heart of the old city. I'm planning to head back there tomorrow with my little shopping bag at the ready – it seems they stock the most wonderful selection of vintage tutu trims. Oh my, how I do love to dream!
But enough about tutus for now, let's talk about what else makes Vienna such a magical place. You’ve heard it before, Vienna’s renowned for its art scene. You literally can’t swing a baguette without bumping into a masterpiece. It was incredible to be surrounded by artists of the highest caliber at The Albertina yesterday.
I got my fill of all things classical with a delightful performance of Mozart’s Così fan tutte last night. You know I'm a huge fan of all things baroque and opera, and the performance at The Vienna State Opera simply took my breath away. Such powerful voices! Such exquisite costumes! The theatre itself was so stunningly opulent - all velvet and gold, and chandelier upon chandelier, twinkling above the heads of the captivated audience.
After the performance, I ventured out for a little light stroll through the city's heart. The cool night air whispered stories of forgotten romances, and the stars, like sparkling jewels, scattered across the velvet expanse of the night sky.
It wasn't all ballet and beautiful buildings, though, darling! One of the best parts about being in Vienna is the food! We’re talking exquisite Sachertorte (I literally could eat it every day!), steaming bowls of Wiener Schnitzel paired with a lovely glass of Austrian Riesling, and heavenly apple strudel. Oh my goodness, how I've been enjoying indulging my senses with this divine food!
Speaking of indulgence, I must tell you about the horse carriage ride I had the other day. There's just something so romantic about sitting nestled in the cushioned carriage with the clip-clop of the horse hooves accompanying the soft melodies emanating from a street musician. It's such a picturesque journey through the city's historic centre. You get a completely different view of Vienna compared to wandering around on foot. I felt like a princess!
Oh, and speaking of princes! How can I forget the Imperial Palace and the Hofburg, and the Schonbrunn Palace? I could spend an entire lifetime exploring these magnificent structures, and still not scratch the surface. They’re filled with history, intrigue, and sheer breathtaking beauty, and that’s just what I love. Every single palace had the most exquisite details – paintings, statues, grand tapestries, you name it!
The beauty of it all really makes me think about all those years of ballet training. I think about how lucky I was to learn to move with such grace. That years and years of tireless dedication and perseverance to get to the point where I could dance so elegantly. I know it’s all worthwhile as I’m blessed enough to perform in so many of these magnificent cities! Vienna will always have a special place in my heart, a true testament to grace and beauty, from the architecture to the culture to the delectable food!
So my darlings, that's it for this week! I hope this little peek into my Viennese adventure has inspired you. Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous, stay colourful, and most importantly… wear a tutu!
Love, Emma
