Vienna Waltz: A Pink Tutu Adventure in the City of Music!

#1809 PinkTutuVienna January 2nd, 2030

Good morning, darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another whirlwind adventure from the gorgeous city of Vienna! It feels absolutely surreal to be here, surrounded by all this musical history, grand architecture and stunning waltz music, and oh, let's not forget the decadent cake! Vienna is a real treat for the senses.

It's been a week of exciting discoveries, dancing delights and delightful dresses, and it's time I share all the pink-tastic moments with you. You see, darlings, there's something special about arriving in a new city – it's like a blank canvas ready for a splatter of pink!

This week, I decided to arrive in style! My journey from the charming Derbyshire countryside to Vienna took me through Switzerland on a picturesque train journey, which is an adventure in itself. Watching the landscape whizz by, sipping on tea with a scone, and feeling the gentle sway of the carriage, it truly is one of life’s little pleasures. There’s something incredibly romantic about train travel; a world away from the bustling airports!

Speaking of romantic, how could I travel without a dash of ballet inspiration? And for the grand arrival in Vienna, it simply had to be a tutu! Of course, a vibrant shade of pink, my signature colour! The ruffled tulle cascaded beautifully as I stepped out onto the platform, drawing curious glances and surprised smiles. I love how a simple pink tutu can turn a routine journey into a captivating performance, a miniature dance right in the heart of the train station.

But, before I get carried away with my sartorial choices, let’s rewind a little. It was a whirlwind week in London before I headed off to Vienna! You wouldn't believe the ballet performances I was lucky enough to see! It started with the incredible Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House, with their stunning costumes and beautiful storytelling through the language of dance. Then, a show at Sadler's Wells which featured some modern, contemporary dance. Such bold, innovative pieces, challenging traditional ballet styles and creating entirely new stories with every movement! You just never know what you'll find at Sadler's Wells, it's a hotbed of creative dance magic.

Of course, the fun doesn't stop with the performances. Shopping for new costumes is an absolute essential. Every new ballet performance and every city I visit is an excuse for me to browse for that perfect new piece to showcase on stage! I’m like a magpie for sequins, sparkles, and intricate designs. And trust me, the ballet shops of London did not disappoint. A whole array of gorgeous ballet shoes, glittering tights, and some wonderfully embellished tutus in all colours imaginable. Oh, it was such a feast for the eyes!

Speaking of my favourite colour, my eyes also popped with joy as I finally made my way to my Vienna hotel, which was an elegant old building decorated with an eye for luxurious details! The wallpaper, with its gorgeous rose and floral patterns, definitely tickled my pink side! And imagine this, there was even a pink rose tucked into my luggage upon arrival! Talk about attention to detail! The whole experience felt like being transported to a storybook palace.

Now, you’ll be thrilled to know that Vienna is proving to be the perfect city for this pink-loving ballerina! The architecture, a symphony of rich colours and elegant flourishes, reminds me of my own tutus. Each building seems to have a story to tell, each window a glimpse into a different ballet scene, and I'm already dreaming of choreographing a whole show here, incorporating the grandeur of these majestic buildings.

But enough about my grand entrances, it's time to tell you about some of my favourite moments from the week:

The Vienna State Opera House: Stepping into the Opera House was like stepping back in time. With its plush velvet seats, elaborate gold decorations, and the anticipation hanging in the air, the entire place is alive with history. I actually took a guided tour, which revealed fascinating secrets about the architecture, the famous performers who have graced the stage, and the stories behind some of the most celebrated operas. They even showed me the amazing mechanism behind the elaborate stage curtains, which reminded me of a complicated ballet movement.

The Schönbrunn Palace: I am a sucker for history, darlings! The beauty of this grand palace took my breath away. From its intricate gardens, echoing with stories of emperors and empresses, to the golden statues overlooking the city, this place is a testament to centuries of beauty and power. And of course, they have an incredible collection of ballet costumes, a testament to the evolution of dance through the centuries. It’s like seeing a living archive of stories told in every fold of a tutu, each embroidery a detail whispered through the years!

The Museum of Music History: This museum really resonated with me. Not just for its collection of musical instruments from around the world, but also for the room dedicated to the history of ballet in Vienna. It gave me a new understanding of the importance of the ballet world in shaping the city’s cultural history. Imagine, ballet performances as grand as those at the Vienna State Opera, centuries ago! It really got me excited to explore all the hidden nooks and corners of this beautiful city.

Dancing the Night Away: But Vienna isn't just about the grand stages! I had to explore its hidden corners and hidden dance venues, which were so much fun to discover! My favourite place so far was a little hidden jazz club. With soft lighting and intimate atmosphere, we learned some of the Viennese waltz steps! And oh my, what fun it was! Twirling under the glittering disco ball felt like an impromptu ballet performance right there in the middle of the club! It was magical!

Exploring by Carriage: Who needs a car when you can explore the city in a carriage, a horse-drawn beauty, perfect for channeling my inner Cinderella! The gentle clip-clop of hooves on cobblestones was a symphony to my ears. It truly allowed me to soak up the magic of Vienna, glancing at the grand architecture, the colorful shops, the laughter in the air – all this with a graceful sweep of my pink tutu in the breeze, what more could a ballerina ask for?

And of course, every adventure must be filled with treats, which leads me to:

Vienna's Café Culture: A city with so many coffee shops couldn’t be better for a ballerina with a sweet tooth! These quaint cafes with their plush armchairs, delicious cakes, and endless mugs of Viennese coffee were perfect spots for resting those weary dancing feet. The delicate Viennese pastries, with their swirls of frosting, were reminiscent of intricate ballet choreography. Every bite was like an explosion of sweetness in my mouth! I tried the Sachertorte, the Apfelstrudel, and oh so many more. I’ve even been taking notes on recipes!

Vienna is definitely a city that knows how to indulge! And trust me, darlings, I’m enjoying every bit of it!

Of course, a pink tutu never gets tired of sharing new styles and exploring fashion and ballet inspiration from all corners of the world. This week, Vienna delivered! It was truly inspiring. From the elaborate, beautiful gowns seen at the Vienna Opera to the graceful, feminine silhouettes on the local ballet dancers, every glimpse was a feast for my fashion eyes! I even found myself tempted by the shop windows bursting with colourful traditional Austrian dirndl dresses! Maybe I need to create my own pink version!

And, who can resist the lure of Vienna's markets? They're a paradise of vintage clothes, handmade crafts and unique jewellery pieces! It’s a treasure trove for discovering new textures and inspiring my own outfits! The perfect way to take my inspiration to a whole new level and keep that spark of creativity flowing!

But for all its cultural treasures, what really surprised me was how welcoming and friendly this city was. Even the locals seemed to be charmed by my pink tutu!

Speaking of, did you see the headline on the Vienna Times today? They featured an interview with the charmingly grumpy, yet brilliant, ballet teacher at Vienna’s prestigious dance academy! I found out his new syllabus incorporates “pink-tastic fun” exercises – who knew grumpy old dance teachers had a playful side? Of course, I took this as an opportunity to add a touch of my signature pink to the dance scene here! A little ballerina’s way of brightening up the world!

But alas, all good things must come to an end, and my time in Vienna is coming to a close! It's bittersweet to leave this captivating city, its enchanting melodies and exquisite waltzes lingering in my mind. I can already feel a whole new ballet choreography swirling in my head, a dance inspired by Vienna's elegant architecture and its vibrant cultural heart.

As I bid farewell to this beautiful city, I’ll be holding on tight to my cherished pink tutu memories, waiting to unleash my next dance performance, in another exciting new location! Until then, darlings, stay pink!

Much love, Emma x
