#DragQueenHistory: 7th July 1974 - The Pink Tutu Travels to the 70s!

Darling, darling! Emma here, back with you again for blog post number 655 on www.pink-tutu.com, bringing you all the hottest #DragQueenHistory gossip straight from the archives!

It's been a positively bonkers month, hun! My diary's bursting at the seams with glittery details of all the dazzling drag shows I've seen, the killer shopping sprees I've had, and all the glamourous gossip I've scooped up. And oh darling, where did I go this month? Well, hop into your imaginary pink tutus, babes, because this time, I whipped myself right back to the 70s!

7th July 1974. I sashayed right into a magical world of platform shoes, bell bottoms, and disco balls! Can you imagine? The music was groovin' and everyone was dancin' like they didn't have a care in the world! The outfits! Darling, the fashion was just so much fun – it was all about making a statement! Imagine a rainbow of colours, big and bold prints, sparkly everything, and feathers galore.

The energy was electric! It was all about freedom, self-expression, and of course, celebrating the fabulous artistry of drag. I absolutely adored it. In the 70s, the world of drag was really finding its feet – bursting with talent and paving the way for what we see today. It was a time when so many of the incredible legends that we know and love today were first making their mark!

Speaking of which, let's delve into the glorious happenings of drag back in 74', shall we?

This month in drag history is particularly special, my darlings, because it coincides with *the very first edition of the "New York Gay and Lesbian Community Newsletter" * a vital platform that helped to bring together the queer community, provide information, and champion LGBTQ+ issues. Talk about progress!

But it wasn't just America that was buzzing with drag. Right across the pond in good old Blighty, things were kickin' off in the West End! On 7th July, the very first edition of "Gay News" hit the streets, spreading the love of drag and its rich and diverse history all over the United Kingdom. This was a revolutionary moment, bringing all those amazing, flamboyant shows, talents, and messages directly to the heart of our lovely little island.

I, Emma, was absolutely in my element, channeling all the groovy 70s vibes while sipping on a frothy cocktail (the pinker the better!) and dancing my heart out! I saw a drag show that evening in the West End. Oh, darling! It was just so iconic - full of those legendary British drag queens known for their outlandish costumes, razor-sharp wit, and of course, some real show stopping lip-sync performances. It's no surprise that these icons helped shape the world of drag that we adore today.

It’s this time of year, of course, when my schedule fills up with fundraisers. Oh, you’ve all got tickets to see my spectacular show, "Tutu’s on Tour," next week, haven't you? My shows raise funds for my next time-travelling escapade and oh, do I have a big one lined up for August!

But before I spoil all the surprises and reveal where I'm off to next, tell me, darling! Have you been to a drag show this month? Did you catch any shows on TV or YouTube? Did you discover a new favorite queen? Spill the tea in the comments below! And don't forget, you can always join my community over at www.pink-tutu.com where you'll find a whole host of delightful blog posts and sassy drag chat with some fab drag queens!

Lots of love and glitter,
