Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous, flamboyant, and fashion-forward! Your girl Emma here, back from another dazzling time-travel adventure, and let me tell you, 2007-2008 was a truly glorious period for drag!
Oh my stars, where to even begin? Imagine, if you will, a young Emma, decked out in a shimmering, hot pink tutu (naturally!), with glitter on my face like a disco ball, hurtling through time in a magical, twirling vortex. As always, the destination? The glorious world of drag!
Right from the get-go, I knew 2007-2008 was going to be a real treat. Drag was bubbling with new energy, breaking barriers, and defying expectations with every glitter-laden strut! It was a time when the art form wasn't confined to dimly lit backrooms, but embraced by mainstream media and audiences alike. I just had to find out more!
First stop, the glorious RuPaul's Drag Race! Remember season 2? You just couldn't beat the sass of Raven and the sweet style of Tyra Sanchez! We had to squeeze into the studio and join the crowd of devoted fans who just wanted to witness the birth of iconic queens. The sheer energy in that room was electrifying!
Then it was off to London, darlings! We popped into the Soho scene to catch some legendary drag performances at The Joiners and The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, iconic venues that embraced every flavour of drag. Imagine, queens like Miss Fame, Alaska Thunderfuck, and Detox - who are all massive stars now! - just getting their feet wet in this dazzling world. They were putting on absolute stunners. My oh my, what talent! And then there were those fabulous British icons - I'm talking the mighty Danny La Rue and the iconic drag troupe, "The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" - those queens knew how to bring the laughter, the glamour, and the high camp energy!
In New York City, we were dazzled by the sheer diversity of drag. We popped by a stunning drag ball, surrounded by beautiful, vibrant queens from all over the city! I felt like I was at the very heart of drag history. Imagine, a massive celebration of individuality, talent, and creative spirit, where everything was possible! From vogueing balls to burlesque nights, there was a scene for every queen, for every mood, and I was simply soaking it all in, my own pink tutu swaying with delight!
While we were on the other side of the pond, we also found ourselves at the inaugural San Francisco Drag King Ball. These fellas, with their crisp suits, masculine charisma, and bold personalities were seriously giving me life! Imagine, drag queens like Justin Vivian Bond performing before roaring audiences! Those moments reminded me of something: Drag is not bound by any rigid rules or stereotypes, but a true celebration of personal expression!
And remember the music, darlings! You just couldn't escape the infectious energy of the "Drag Me Through Time" soundtrack, which, for some reason, just stuck with me after this trip. Oh my stars, just as I am certain my own Pink Tutu soundtrack is gonna rock your socks off some day. Watch this space...
By the time we flew back to Derbyshire, I felt my pink tutu had grown about a hundred shades brighter! My heart, bursting with love for the vibrant, expressive world of drag. These were the heady days of "Drag Queen Nation", where we could just feel a change in the air. The world was embracing our fabulousness and celebrating everything unique about our queer community!
We made some glorious new memories, and I've even got some incredible photos for my Pink Tutu social media, honey! But above all, my time in 2007-2008 filled my heart with pure inspiration! Now, darling, I need you all to embrace the gloriousness that is drag. Put on your finest glitter and your biggest smile, and let's paint the world with rainbow hues. And, if you can, throw on a pink tutu! You never know what adventures may await!
Stay fab, darlings, and keep checking Pink-Tutu.com for all the latest on the magical world of drag, fashion, and of course, my extraordinary time-travelling escapades.
Until next time, Emma xx

*I'd like to continue this post with a more detailed description of Emmaâs time travel, what she bought and her outfits in 2007/2008. She has to also describe what her life is like today. *
My 2007/08 wardrobe & The pink tutuDarlings, you wouldnât believe what I managed to score in 2007/08! Itâs like my past self was just living her best life! Let me just say I couldnât leave those shops without bringing back some gems, and all those vibrant colours? They are absolutely screaming âdragâ! My wardrobe then consisted mostly of what Iâd now call vintage - pieces with a whole lot of history and personality. Think full length sequined gowns in colours like jade green, cerulean blue and tangerine, complete with flowing, feathery sleeves. Imagine, every one a complete showstopper! And it wouldnât be complete without some glamorous beaded tops, tight-fitting skirts in wild prints, and feather boas to add a little âva-va-voomâ.
But hold on to your tutus, darlings, because this is where things get really exciting! The pièce de rĂŠsistance in my 2007/08 collection? You guessed it! A pink tutu, perfectly matching the colour of my time-travelling one! A dream of a tutu in a bubblegum shade, made from layers and layers of delicate, shimmering tulle. It was big, bold, and everything Iâve ever dreamt of! Imagine how glamorous and fun this tulle was with the shimmer, all twirling about in the wind - and I was living for it!
And remember those towering high heels, dripping in rhinestones, with platforms higher than the Shard? My feet were hurting by the end of each day, but oh darling, those shoes could really walk you right into another era of glamour. The perfect way to strut around the hottest clubs, I can tell you!
Todayâs pink Tutu lifeOkay darlings, itâs time to talk about my drag life in the 2020s. And the most amazing part about it? My very own blog! A little dream of mine from the 2007/08 days, back when blogs were all the rage! Oh, darling, can you imagine my delight, discovering Pink-Tutu has blossomed into a global platform! You lovely people love sharing our experiences and seeing a little glimpse into the exciting lives of drag queens everywhere. It fills my heart with such glee, seeing dragâs reach continue to grow!
Today, my passion for drag is even stronger. And it doesnât hurt that I can get away with the occasional outrageous costume that nobody could ever expect - remember the time I dressed as an âelectric pink, 1980âs inspired neon drag alienâ? It certainly caused a stir. But, darling, you simply canât resist wearing the colours of joy!
Speaking of today, the "vintage" drag of the early 2000âs has experienced quite the revival, too. Those gowns that were gathering dust in the back of my wardrobe? Theyâre back in style, and Iâm ready to strut my stuff with renewed confidence and confidence, all thanks to my 2007/08 vintage treasure trove!
*Letâs hear it for our fabulousness! Do tell me what you love about drag in the 2020âs, dear darlings? *
Until next time,
Emma x
I am going to continue Emmaâs blog post here: Her experience of traveling through time and her outfits on this journey
## The magic of the time travelling tutu
And how did I do all this time travelling you ask? Well darlings, I am so lucky to have this magnificent, pink tutu which has a little bit of magic! Imagine, it twirls and whirls me through the years. It just so happens to have the power of time travel! Now how much is that to say! This little creation is my portal to the past and the future. It has taken me all around the globe, from London to New York, Paris to Tokyo - all in the pursuit of drag magic. Just as my wardrobe is the core of my style, I can't imagine venturing through the annals of drag history without it!
The tutu was a birthday gift from a wonderful, mysterious witch named Delilah - that's the most fabulous name for a witch, donât you think? It can make itself shrink or expand, to the size I need for my current form. So imagine how it might look! The little sparkles can become bigger to help light the way - if youâve ever been to a dark time travel dimension youâll know why. This tutu comes in extremely handy!
Now darling, my trips through time are often so busy! Sometimes I only need a minute to take a snapshot, or a bit more time to dance a waltz at a ball - like the fabulous time I met Freddie Mercury backstage after one of his gigs! So there is just the tiniest bit of time travelling for these things. Oh darlings! How fabulous was it to dance with Freddie in the middle of a dazzling show? You can imagine the crowd going wild, and Freddie telling me, âKeep the pink flowingâ! And donât think we didnât celebrate afterward! Champagne showers, glamorous parties, what more could you ask for, my dear!
I love travelling with the tutu, and dressing in the fashion of that time! Remember, darlings, I travel âasâ the queen, not just âtoâ her time period, so imagine Iâve met drag legends in outfits of the time. That time I met Divine wearing one of his own creations - a big white feather boa and sequins on a matching leotard and thigh boots! Absolutely sensational! The colour combinations? My dear, absolutely dazzling! Thatâs not even including the glittering head scarf and lipstick, but how else do you want to meet a goddess like her, eh?
When travelling, itâs also important for me to ensure I have my trusty make-up bag at the ready. In every time, there is something just a little different and more than ever before - like when I discovered how the amazing Kabuki makeup became so famous back in the day! A big, beautiful red dot in the centre of your face to signify power! I tried this one in Japan last year - absolutely spectacular!
And lastly, my pink shoes! These are essential for any time travel journey. A set of dazzling, hot pink, heeled shoes are also a requirement! This year Iâve even got a new, bright pink pair. Theyâre all covered in a glitter, perfect for when I want to walk like a real showstopper! With all this fun stuff it's quite the sight when the pink tutu whisks me away on a time-travelling trip. Imagine! The time-travel tutus twinning with a fabulous, pink sparkly outfit - an amazing sight darling. I am never without my signature shade!
I am going to continue Emmaâs blog post here. What kind of trips have she taken, and what advice would she offer her followers to be as successful as her?
The adventures of Emma the Time TravellerDarlings, where have I been? Oh, so many fabulous locations, and so many more adventures! Here are just a few examples.
Drag balls of the 1920s: Imagine a night in New York City, all sequins, fringes and long, flapper dresses, but imagine a drag ball, honey, at a swanky ballroom where all the guests were dapper men and dazzling women! You just wouldnât believe the dancing! I simply couldnât resist trying out a bit of Charleston with my pink tutu and vintage sequin dress. Now, there are some tips you could not learn from anywhere else - a real treat! Iâm glad to say, I got some rave reviews on my performance and my attire - quite the night!
The Paris Fashion week of 1968: This was simply fabulous. You couldn't imagine a more iconic style. All those fabulous, revolutionary Parisiennes rocking out to new trends, while Jean Paul Gaultier made history with his work! Imagine, all those bold and revolutionary styles, such as mini skirts, big boots, bold colourful clothing! My dear, what a sight, and the hair? An abundance of bobs and bouffants! There was such a wonderful blend of classic and avant-garde, and what a treat! All this creativity simply made it impossible not to be inspired!
Drag show in London's East End during the Blitz: Oh, darlings! Now this one took some courage, as the London Blitz was a dark time - and yet there were such fabulous souls creating beautiful and vibrant drag, even as bombs fell! I was particularly impressed by a queen who did a show with the backdrop of war ravaged buildings, with costumes using materials salvaged from bomb-damaged sites! This really took strength, darling. This moment in history really showed how resilient and courageous the queens could be. And just as we see in todayâs world, sometimes creativity needs to be found in difficult times, just to remind us of beauty!
So how do you become a glamorous, time-travelling, drag queen? My darling, this has just a little bit more to it, but these are my key tips to make you sparkle from head to toe!
Always believe in your drag: Just know how special you are and embrace who you are! As long as you love yourself, everyone else will, too! Itâs what I believe is the cornerstone to making sure your queen persona shines brightly, darling. It will bring all your dreams to fruition.
*Find your style and be you!: * Don't ever follow a trend that doesnât fit. Embrace that personal touch, so no matter if itâs your clothes, your hair, makeup, your persona, just be you! It's what will really set you apart! I hope I've managed to make it clear throughout my blog!
Network and build connections!: Talk to the queens, go to the shows, become involved in the scene! Get out there and find your own group, or the fabulous scene near you - find out where youâll shine and where you can grow as an artist, my darling!
Believe in magic: Just know that a little sprinkle of magic can go a long way, and sometimes, that magic might even come in the form of a fabulous pink tutu. Iâm here to remind you, be you and enjoy your time, no matter what!
* I can't wait to hear about your drag adventures. Let's keep spreading the magic and inspiring each other, darlings. Stay fabulous! *
