Pink Tutu Time Travels: Episode #1151 - 11th November 2015 - A Day in the Life of a Drag Queen!

Darling, gather round! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back again with another exciting instalment from my adventures in drag history! This month, my magical tutu whisked me back to 11th November, 2015, a date filled with fabulousness, surprises, and, of course, a whole lot of drag!

Now, I must admit, 2015 was a particularly juicy year for the drag world. Think RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7, the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, and a global awakening of acceptance and love for all things drag! It was a heady time to be a queen, darling!

But back to the 11th of November, shall we?

Well, as soon as I landed in the sparkly, glittery 2015 timeline, I realised there was something truly special happening in the air - the anticipation, the energy! Why, darling, the world was just waiting for something amazing to burst forth! I wasn't wrong.

First things first, I high-tailed it to New York City. Now, you know I can never resist a good drag show, and there was just so much happening! You see, at the time, Season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race was in full swing, and it was oh so much fun to witness the queens on their journey. You see, darlings, watching a queen become a star from the early days of their journey, before the world knew their name? That's magic, baby!

At that moment, there were queens like Violet Chachki, Katya Zamolodchikova, Ginger Minj, and Pearl all vying for the crown! Imagine! This lineup is the stuff of drag legend!

Of course, no trip to New York City is complete without a stop at the iconic Stonewall Inn, a place forever etched in LGBTQ+ history. As I stood on the street, imagining the countless drag queens who had graced the stage of the Stonewall, I felt an incredible connection to the past and the present, a sense of pride that ran deep.

That day in 2015 was truly electric! Everywhere I looked, there were stories waiting to unfold, a sense of revolution in the air, a fierce determination to leave the world a more accepting place than the one that had been.

In London, a queer artist named David Shrigley was exhibiting his satirical, humorous work, prompting conversations about art and identity within the LGBTQ+ community.

And darling, I can’t forget the iconic film “Carol” starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. It was making waves, highlighting a very important story about forbidden love. This film captured hearts around the globe and resonated with many in the LGBTQ+ community.

Back at home in Derbyshire, I caught up with my fellow drag queens, marveling at the changes we had seen in the world since my first drag performance back in 1995! Oh, those were the days! We had a fabulous night, giggling over drag trivia and remembering some truly fabulous looks from our youth (there may or may not have been a couple of unfortunate moments featuring oversized feathered hats… darling, I won't bore you with the details).

You know, one of the things I love most about drag is its ever-evolving nature. It’s always exciting, ever changing, ever challenging expectations. 2015, in particular, was a pivotal moment, where drag embraced the power of the internet to share its message of love, acceptance, and of course, ultimate glamour!

So, my dears, until next time, remember to embrace your inner diva, keep on twirling in your pink tutus, and most importantly, always remember that the power of drag is something truly magical. Now, off I pop, darling, my magical pink tutu beckons me once again!
