Pink-Tutu Post #1169: A Whirlwind May Through Time, Darling!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu! It's your favourite Derbyshire diva, Emma, here, back with another time-travelling adventure! Now, darling, you know how much I love a good twirl, right? Well, let me tell you, May 2017 was a real whirlwind of fashion and fabulousness! This month, my magical pink tutu carried me to the very heart of some of the most dazzling drag moments, and let me tell you, I'm still feeling all the sparkle!

First stop, the glittering world of RuPaul's Drag Race, darling! Season 9 was in full swing, with the queens serving looks like they were auditioning for the Royal Ballet. I especially loved Valentina's iconic "Spanish Harlem" look. Talk about a flamenco fabulousness, honey! Those boots were the absolute business! You know how much I love a good pair of boots. Remember that time I went to the Renaissance era and paired my tutu with some lovely leather riding boots? Oh, darling, I could write a whole post just about my footwear adventures, but that's a story for another day.

But back to Season 9. Can you believe they sent home that queen? Let's not say names, darling, but her face was like a dropped ice cream cone. Oh, honey, I can still feel the cringe. However, there's a reason they say "the best come out of adversity." Those of us who love to watch drag queens face adversity are in for a treat. And just think, she got to go back to her little village in, where was she from? Oh yes! [Insert Queen's Home Town]. It made me think about all the local queens out there doing their thing. Honestly, every little town needs a little glitter and a whole lot of fabulousness. We'll be back with a more localized time-travelling blog in a couple of months, darling, keep an eye out!

Anyway, back to the present, May 2017 was also the month I popped over to New York City. Can you imagine my delight? It's practically drag capital of the world! Now, as I'm sure you know, New York has this amazing drag bar scene, but it's also a huge hub for drag theatre. I actually caught a show at a brand-new club that just opened, the Stonewall Inn! The place is history, darling! You can practically feel the energy from the riots in 1969. Now, some might say, "Emma, darling, you need to check your facts" but trust me, in my magical pink tutu, the past is just another dancefloor. Anyway, let's just say they don't call it a "Stonewall Inn" for nothing. It was fabulous, a real reminder of the history of drag and what it means for the community. Oh, honey, it gave me all the chills, all the goosebumps, and honestly, made me feel really emotional.

Now, this wouldn't be a Pink-Tutu blog without a little fashion talk. And darling, I'm not going to lie, the New York scene had some serious competition for the "Best-Dressed Diva" title. I especially loved one queen who called herself Lady Bunny! You could tell she knew how to wear a pink tutu with the best of 'em, though, to be honest, hers was a lot more of a candy-floss colour. Mine is the ultimate shade of pink, darling. I'm very specific. I mean, I can't be found wearing just any pink, you see! Now, back to Bunny, she wore these giant red sequins and a feathered boa that literally could have sent me flying with envy!

Now, all of that talk about theatre reminds me! Back home in dear old Derbyshire, May 2017 was a big month for our local drag scene. Remember The Rose Theatre in my beloved hometown, Derby? Well, let me tell you, those gorgeous darlings held their annual "Drag Diva Extravaganza"! My dear friend, Ginger Snaps, took home the "Best Look" trophy for a showstopping sequined creation that even the late Queen Elizabeth II would have gasped over.

Talking of the late Queen Elizabeth, darling, did I mention that this was also the month we had an election? I told you, a whirlwind! And yes, of course, I travelled through time to cover it! The airwaves were abuzz with "political drag queens" and Boris Johnson and his clown-like tendencies made a real scene. But you know, we should never underestimate a good political performance. We live in a world of performance, and darling, nothing says "we've got something to say" like a bold and flamboyant political statement in sequins!

This brings us to the end of my whirlwind tour of May 2017. As always, darling, remember, it's all about finding the joy, the laughter, the beauty in life. And what better way to do it than in a pink tutu? It's about celebrating all forms of drag, whether it's the glittering queens on our screens, the fabulous locals in our community, or even the political figures who, quite frankly, can sometimes be more dramatic than any queen on stage.

Oh, and let's not forget about the shopping, darling! I just bought a fabulous new pink tutu this week. The best part? It has all these sparkles and bows - just imagine it, my darlings. The joy, the utter sparkle and glee that just wearing a pink tutu brings!

Now, you all know what I like to say, darling: "Never stop believing in the power of pink!" And remember, no matter what, always keep twirling, always keep shining, and most importantly, always, always wear pink!

Don't forget to visit the Pink-Tutu shop to pick out your new favourite tutu! We have pink tutus to fit all shapes and sizes. I promise you'll look absolutely stunning.

Love,

Emma.
