Pink Tutu Travels: December 2017 - A Dance Through Time!

Hello darlings, and welcome to Pink Tutu Travels, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous and sparkly! This is post number 1176, and boy, oh boy, do I have a treat for you today.

This month, we're twirling back to the December of 2017, a time of fabulous glitz and glamorous gigs. As a proper Derbyshire lass, I'm always happiest when my sequins are sparkling and my lipstick is on point. So let's slip into my trusty time-travelling pink tutu (which I swear, keeps getting more fabulous with each trip!), and take a look at the amazing world of drag back in the glorious year 2017.

A December Delight - Drag Scenes around the Globe

I gotta say, 2017 was a pretty incredible year for drag, darling! Every single corner of the world seemed to be brimming with talent. From the dazzling drag balls of New York to the cutting-edge scene in London, drag queens were absolutely slaying. I was, naturally, a bit obsessed.

And guess what? December was no different! I had the pleasure of catching the absolutely fabulous "Drag Race" Season 9 finale in the States - RuPaul was serving looks like nobody's business! It felt electric, and everyone was on the edge of their seats to find out who would win the coveted crown. Oh, to have been there, darling, in the thick of the excitement!

But my adventures didn't stop there! I hopped onto a plane and sashayed my way over to London, a true drag queen mecca. That month, there was an incredible show happening in Soho, "The Queen's Ball," hosted by the ever-talented Cherry Valentine. Let me tell you, those queens served sickening looks and amazing choreography. I even saw the fabulous Courtney Act there! Imagine my excitement, a true living legend!

You see, London was, and still is, a real hotbed for drag talent. It's the birthplace of iconic names like Divine and Leigh Bowery, and there's just so much amazing drag happening all the time. Every time I hop back to London in my tutu, I'm transported back to a time when drag really was art.

From Stage to Street - A Pink Tutu for Every Occasion

But drag wasn't confined to the stage in 2017. No, no, no, it was exploding everywhere, spilling out onto the streets, becoming part of pop culture and influencing fashion like never before. From Drag Brunch events that had everyone saying "Can I get a bottomless mimosa?" to drag queen fashion shows where you could have seen a runway show with nothing but bedazzled tutus - 2017 really was the year of drag's ascent. It was an exciting time to be a queen, a fan, and well, frankly, just to be living in a world where the fabulousness was bubbling over everywhere you looked.

Now, if you ask me, one of the most important things about drag is that it embraces ALL kinds of people - no matter their style, background, or shape and size! It’s an open arms club. That’s what made my little pink tutu time trip to Paris so special, where drag was finding a space in galleries and art shows, breaking boundaries and challenging preconceived notions of what "drag" even meant.

Bringing a Touch of Pink to Every December

Of course, my travels through time are all funded by my incredible drag performances - I call my troupe the "Pink Tutu Angels," and let me tell you, we give it our all! From high-kickin' Broadway-inspired routines to comedic camp skits that are bound to make you laugh (and maybe even shed a tear, in the most dramatic and beautiful way, of course!), we know how to bring the magic. Every performance is a celebration of self-expression, fun, and, of course, a sprinkle of that irresistible Pink Tutu sparkle!

It's important to remember that the spirit of drag has always been about individuality, freedom of expression, and pushing the boundaries of what’s considered “normal.” This is a world where imagination and creativity rule supreme, where you can be whoever you want to be. You’ll never find me with a "What would people say?" mindset, because in the realm of drag, darlings, we just say, "Yas Queen!"

So, if you haven't yet joined me on this extraordinary time-travelling journey through the pink tutu universe, then now's the time to embrace it! Go on, explore the amazing world of drag, discover your inner queen, and remember that there's a little bit of sparkle in all of us. And don't forget, to make the world a bit more pink, put on your most fabulous tutu, darlings, and dance!

I'm always on the lookout for the most magical and fabulous things in drag history. So, tell me: What are your favorite memories from December 2017? Or better yet, share your drag experiences with me. I'd love to hear all about your adventures in the amazing, inclusive world of drag!

Stay fabulous, stay sparkly, and until next month, my darlings, may your tutus twirl, and may your lipstick never smudge.

See you on www.pink-tutu.com next month!

Lots of love,

Emma xoxo
