Pink Tutu Time Travels - #1179: March 2018: A Blast to the Past and a Future of Fabulousness!

Hello, my darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time traveller extraordinaire, reporting live from - well, who knows! Could be Victorian London one minute, a dazzling cabaret in the roaring twenties the next, and all thanks to the magical powers of my pink tutu. I mean, if a little bit of tulle can bend time, what else can it do?!

Now, for the record, March 2018 was just brimming with exciting happenings in the world of drag. Let's dive right in, shall we?

A Trip Through the Time Machine to March 2018:

First off, darling, let's take a little stroll through what was hot in the world of drag in this particular month. Think glitter, sequins, and all things glamorous, baby!

  • "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 10 was making a huge splash, captivating hearts and minds worldwide with the dazzling antics of our queens. We saw fierce performances, drama, and a whole lot of glitter. A season to remember, darling!

  • *The legendary Divine, the camp and fabulous drag queen from "Pink Flamingos" and beyond, would be turning 71 this month. * We raised a glass of champagne to this incredible pioneer of drag, an artist who dared to be different and pushed the boundaries of what drag could be.

  • RuPaul's DragCon was just around the corner! This event, showcasing all things drag, was gearing up to bring drag fans, performers, and vendors from all over the world together in an exciting whirlwind of drag excellence. I just knew my little pink tutu would make a perfect addition to the colourful outfits on display there.

  • "Drag Race" season 9 winner Sasha Velour was absolutely KILLING it with her performances and artistry. Remember that stunning "Velour Season" tour? She was truly paving the way for new and innovative ways of expressing drag.

  • Oh, and The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman had recently hit the screens, and you could tell drag was inspired by the whole showstopping spectacle, the flamboyant characters, and the celebration of individuality and spectacle.

My Little Pink Tutu Travels:

So, on the grand stage of drag, March 2018 was a real scorcher! Of course, with my pink tutu time machine, I could explore even more fabulous moments in the rich tapestry of drag history. I took a twirl through the decades:

1920s New York: A visit to the wild and wonderful world of New York in the roaring twenties - think "flappers," cabaret shows, and a heady mix of liberation and social change. You just had to catch that carefree spirit, especially on stage. I can't deny my tutu would've looked a little out of place on a speakeasy dance floor, but the vibrant spirit and audacious beauty were absolutely intoxicating!

Victorian England: The Edwardian period is definitely not for the faint of heart! Strict Victorian etiquette made me want to put on a tutu just to shake things up! I found myself on stage with a London variety show, my tulle twirling wildly as I attempted to perform a dainty ballet act. Needless to say, the audience wasn’t quite ready for my brand of camp, but let's just say my appearance generated a lot of "what in the world..." stares!

A Night at a Modern Drag Show:

Of course, no journey through time would be complete without a good dose of modern-day drag. So, naturally, I caught myself a show right back here in 2018, in good old Derby. (You're right, not the biggest drag hub in the world, but every place deserves its share of fabulousness, don’t you think?). I can tell you that these girls were phenomenal – they were funny, fearless, and absolutely serving looks!

Tips for Creating a Time-Traveling Pink Tutu

My lovelies, I'm ready to spread some pink tutu magic to everyone!

  • Finding the Perfect Tutu: Now, here’s the secret. A pink tutu is a real statement, but you’ll find one just waiting to whisk you away. Start with the colour. A bright and bold pink screams time travel - but a more delicate shade can make you look like a chic and sassy ballerina. And when you get your perfect pink tutu, don’t hesitate to add extra sparkles, feather boas, and ribbons. Let it tell the world you’re ready for an adventure!

  • Choosing the Right Fabric: For my time machine tutu, I look for quality materials with good, sturdy tulle. I'm after a strong base to support the fabric's layers.

  • Don't be afraid of Accessories: Don't be shy, darlings! The magic of time travel happens when we let our imaginations take over. I like to use embellishments like beads, glitter, feathers and rhinestones – and always a little sequin or two. And of course, a statement-making hat never hurts either, whether it's a crown or a fancy feather boater!

Ending on a Note of Tutus and Glitter:

That's all for now, my pink tutu loves. March 2018 was definitely a month for fabulous drag moments and plenty of excitement. I'm always thrilled to share my time travels and adventures with you, spreading the love for all things sparkly and camp! I'm off on a new adventure! (Maybe 1950s Hollywood is calling? ) But I'll be back with more pink-tutu filled memories and insights soon!

And remember: life is a stage, and we’re all stars. Keep spinning, Emma
