Pink Tutu Travels: July 2018 - It's all about the tutus! (Post #1183)

Darling, hello darlings! Emma here, back from a simply fabulous jaunt through time! You know I just can’t get enough of our delicious drag history, so this month, I twirled my way right back to the glorious summer of 2018. It’s a trip I won’t soon forget! And the best part? My new favourite pink tutu!

Let’s face it, darling, 2018 was a vintage year for drag. You couldn’t throw a glitter-bomb without hitting a fabulous drag queen! It was an absolutely thrilling time to be in the scene, and this is just the beginning!

I hopped into my time machine tutu (still working on the door – you know it’s all about the theatrics!) and landed right in the midst of Pride celebrations in London. Talk about a visual feast, love! So much colour, so many dazzling outfits and such fab performances! I saw the most delicious rainbow tutus you could imagine, and let’s just say, I got inspired.

After a whirl through Pride, I headed on over to New York City, where things were heating up with the "RuPaul's Drag Race" phenomenon. You simply can’t discuss drag history in 2018 without mentioning those queens! Season 10 was just reaching its finale, and let me tell you, it was a dazzling display of talent, sass, and… yes, you guessed it… tutus!

Of course, I was particularly thrilled to catch aquaria slaying in her sickening fashions, and honestly, the whole season just made me want to dance a jig in a cloud of feathers and glitter! The girls weren’t the only ones who were on fire - RuPaul was a force of nature in his glamorous outfits and he was making a seriously strong case for why every woman, man, and drag queen needs a sparkly, high-impact pink tutu!

From New York, I zipped on over to Birmingham. I know you're probably thinking, Birmingham? But it's home to The Hippodrome - a stunning, glamorous theatre known for its beautiful interior and its love for drag. Back in 2018, the 'Drag Idol' show had just been announced – I have to say I was absolutely buzzing. Just knowing that the drag world was branching out, reaching more audiences and making history… that’s the stuff that gives this pink tutu-clad drag queen hope for the future!

Now, don't forget about all the fabulous performances going down across the globe! I was chasing the spotlight, seeing shows in Derbyshire, (we've got some seriously good queens in our county) and right over to Sydney, Australia, where I felt a shiver of excitement watching every performance! You see, I think 2018 marked a real turning point – the world truly became obsessed with the brilliance and magic of drag.

To give you a little peak at my fashion finds, darling… let me just say I had to have a custom tutu created! Imagine a pink tulle paradise, with delicate sequined butterflies and shimmering feathers! It’s the ultimate ode to drag’s beauty and power! Just because drag fashion and time travel tutus are just so deliciously fun!

And then, I made my way to Berlin, where I went totally "Glitz and Glam!" Oh my word, lovelies… the fashion? The costumes? Just exquisite! And the talent – oh the talent! It felt like a rainbow explosion of drag style just for me. The entire atmosphere felt like it was saying “come on in, wear your pink tutu and be bold, be proud!" Berlin’s drag culture is alive with history. The iconic "Mutter" is an absolutely essential part of drag culture.

Oh! And don't even get me started on all the gorgeous ballroom queens. They had me so mesmerised with their incredible fashion and sharp performances, I nearly missed my train back to Derbyshire. The spirit of ballroom culture has always been all about unity and acceptance, and seeing that in 2018 – well, it was pure joy!

As July 2018 came to a close, the drag scene was bubbling with energy. The new shows coming out, the ever-growing support and respect, and the sparkling tutus – everything just felt positively magnetic! And it was exactly that vibe that made me so thrilled to put on my own pink tutu and jump right into a dance of joy. So here’s to the magic of drag, darling! Remember that the world needs a little more glitter and a lot more pink tutus!

Until next month, lovelies, let's keep spreading the pink tutu love.

Love, Emma
