Hiya darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu wearing, time travelling drag queen. It's September 2027, and believe me, it's fierce.
September's always a magical month, a real cauldron of creativity in the world of drag. And what better way to celebrate than to whisk you back through the glittering history of our artform with a trip on my trusty time travelling pink tutu!
Now, my lovely lambs, gather 'round and let's dive into this month's chronological chronicles! Buckle up, because this one's a real showstopper!
The Dawn of a Drag Queen (September 1st 1888)Well, my sweetpeas, we're starting this trip back to the year 1888. We're heading to the heart of London, where in a tucked away, dimly lit theatre in Covent Garden, an anonymous drag queen performs. The audience are enraptured by her flamboyant portrayal of the infamous "Dame Quickly" from Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor".
She's just one of the earliest documented examples of drag as entertainment. You know, back in those days, drag was primarily seen as something reserved for theatre - a chance to step into other identities and entertain the masses. But as we know, my loves, the scene was soon to evolve dramatically.
Drag and The Movies (September 13th 1934)Whizz! I'm on a mission, darlings, taking you straight to New York City 1934. We're about to witness a little bit of movie magic. This month, on September 13th, the infamous Drag Ball - an underground, clandestine gathering for the queens - is held for the very first time! This marks the moment that Drag moves beyond just theatre and starts finding its way into the fabric of American culture. The glitz and glamour, the iconic fashions and the rebellious spirit - it was pure drag magic.
The Drag Renaissance (September 20th 1965)Oh darlings, let's be real. There's a special energy, a seismic shift happening on this date, September 20th, 1965. In San Francisco, the first "Gay Liberation Front" demonstration is held, and drag plays a crucial role. For the first time, drag becomes a tool of social activism, giving voice to a marginalised community, challenging gender norms, and promoting acceptance. It was a moment in time when drag became more than entertainment - it became a voice of defiance, a way of celebrating one's own unique identity.
A Day to Celebrate Drag! (September 29th 2022)You know I have a soft spot for birthdays. And today, darling, we're celebrating International Drag Day, which was officially recognised on September 29th, 2022. This joyous occasion commemorates the profound impact that drag queens and kings have made on society - a global recognition of our power, artistry and advocacy!
The World of Drag in September 2027Fast forward to this very moment, darlings, and the world of drag is absolutely exploding. Drag shows are no longer hidden in smoke-filled backrooms but take centre stage, front and centre!
We have drag balls in every major city, showcasing the wildest outfits, from avant-garde couture to those jaw-dropping "House of Glam" masterpieces.
Our queens are killing it on television! "Drag Race" has reached a global audience, highlighting the talent, diversity and sheer entertainment value of the drag scene. Drag queens are on the front cover of magazines, walking runways and making history!
Back to Derbyshire (And My Monthly Adventures)Time to zoom back home, darlings! Right now, I'm in my studio flat, a comfy space adorned with enough glitter and tulle to make a disco ball blush! My trusty sewing machine is humming with a symphony of clicks and whirs as I put the finishing touches on my new showstopper - a feathered masterpiece in shades of candy floss pink, designed to make those old school drag legends say "Now THAT'S drag!"
This month I'm headlining "A Night of Tutu-licious Delights" at The Globe Theatre in Derby. This fabulous event celebrates all things theatrical and dramatic, with a special focus on the "Drag Queen as Shakespeare's Heroine." It's going to be legendary, darlings!
Don't forget, my lovely loves, to check out www.pink-tutu.com every month for more drag queen history time travels and adventures! I’m aiming for world domination… in pink tutus!

Love, Emma, The Time-Travelling Tutu Queen.
