Pink-tutu.com - Drag Queen Time Travel Blog: Post #1298

Hello darlings!

It's your favourite pink-tutu clad time traveller, Emma, back with another juicy instalment from the annals of drag history! Today, we're soaring through the sparkly vortex to the glorious 28th of February 2028, ready to take in the glitz, glam, and fierce performances that graced the world stage.

Hold on to your feather boas, my darlings, because this one is a doozy!

First off, a bit of housekeeping, as it were. I'm back in the Derbyshire countryside after a whirlwind tour of New York and London, soaking up all the drag deliciousness on offer. You wouldn't believe the fabulous fashion finds I managed to score! We're talking sequin-encrusted everything, my darlings, everything! But we'll save that for another blog post, shall we?

Back to 28th February, 2028! This date was absolutely jam-packed with fabulous drag events across the globe.

Let's start in the good ol' US of A, shall we?

In Los Angeles, the legendary Wigstock Festival was in full swing. Can you believe, darling, that Wigstock has been around for over 40 years? Talk about a legacy! They had the crème de la crème of the American drag scene performing - names I dare not utter because, my darlings, I simply can't choose a favourite! It was all about celebrating the power and the creativity of drag, and believe you me, the looks were jaw-dropping. They really embraced that "bigger is better" attitude, which is definitely a personal aesthetic, ahem.

Moving east, we landed in New York City!

Here, darling, we have to give a shout out to the Miss Gay America pageant. It's such a spectacle, such an opportunity for drag queens all across the nation to showcase their talent and artistry! Imagine, being crowned Miss Gay America! You'd be instantly thrust into the spotlight, the darling of the nation! Now, if that ain't a dream come true, I don't know what is! The performances, darling, were nothing short of breathtaking! The girls really went all out, showcasing their skills and putting their heart and souls into each performance. They say the crown is only half the battle, and they weren't wrong, these girls were pushing the boundaries and redefining what drag can be.

And how can we forget the ever-thriving scene in London!

On the 28th of February, 2028, the Royal Vauxhall Tavern played host to “Drag Queens From Across the Pond”, a spectacular showcase of talented queens from all corners of the globe! They called it "Drag-mas!" What's a bit of theatricality, eh? It's a London thing. The RVT is always brimming with excitement, but this event really pushed the envelope. There was such a diversity of style and flair on display. This event celebrated everything that drag stands for - community, individuality, and most importantly, having a damn good time! We can't leave out the legendary The Glory, they had an entire evening dedicated to the power of drag in cinema! You just knew those sequins were gonna be shimmering under those silver screens, darling!

But, my darlings, the drag scene didn't stop there! There was a whole slew of smaller events happening, intimate shows in basement bars, lip-sync battles in gay pubs, and even a drag queen storytelling session at the local library! It was a festival of drag, and the best part was seeing how each local community celebrated the artform in its own unique way.

Now, I wouldn't be a good time-travelling drag queen if I didn't let you know what I wore that day! I slipped into a blush pink tutu, layered with gossamer netting for an extra ethereal touch. To compliment, I wore a vibrant fuchsia bustier with sequin-studded straps and an equally flamboyant pink feather boa for good measure. My hair was styled into a dramatic updo with shimmering pink tinsel and sparkling rhinestones to top it all off. You know me, darling, I always bring the glam!

My day was all about exploring the underground scene in London. I saw a fantastic cabaret performance at the Soho Theatre. Their costumes were stunning, the choreography was precise and their voices were as sharp as their makeup. I met some brilliant young drag queens, fresh faces full of passion and excitement about their craft.

I spent the evening soaking up the energy of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. It's like a second home to me! As I'm sure it is for many of you, darlings! You've got to experience it for yourself. You feel the history of the place, the weight of its role in LGBTQ+ activism, and the community it creates. It's truly special, like a time warp, where everyone's welcomed with open arms. And let's face it, everyone needs that kind of warmth every now and again, don't you agree?

Speaking of open arms, have you started your own pink-tutu journey yet, my dears? Go on, I dare you! Nothing feels better than rocking a tutu. The confidence it instills is like an unstoppable force! Let's paint the world pink one tutu at a time!

Until next month, remember to love yourself, celebrate the joy of drag, and keep your dreams big, baby!

With endless amounts of love and sequins,

Emma. xx
