Pink-Tutu Blog - Post 1348: 2032.04.04: A Dragtastic Time Trip to the Future of Drag! 🩰✨

Hiya darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another fabulous update from my adventures across the glittering timelines of drag!

This month, I'm whipping my trusty time-travelling tutu into a frenzy and journeying to a future I've been dreaming of since I first donned my first drag outfit. 2032! My, my, haven't things come a long way!

Now, let me paint a picture. The world has a serious dose of glitter on its fingertips! Street performances are as ubiquitous as double-decker buses in old Blighty - from Tokyo's bustling Shibuya crossing to the heart of Broadway in New York, it's all drag all the time. It's utterly glorious. The streets pulsate with sequins, feathered boas, and an overwhelming wave of fabulous energy. Oh, how I yearn for those days of my youth, the days of small drag clubs, tucked away corners, and a longing for this kind of glorious visibility!

But wait, darlings, the best part is yet to come. In the heart of bustling Birmingham, a vibrant and diverse drag community has blossomed into a cultural epicentre for drag history! The grand opening of the "House of Glitter" is a sight to behold! Imagine, a magnificent Victorian mansion, restored to its former glory and adorned in the most dazzling, outlandish drag decor. Within these gilded walls, we have a dazzling spectacle: drag ballrooms for fierce competition, intimate cabaret stages for up-close performances, an archive museum showcasing the evolution of drag through time, and a costume workshop, bursting with shimmering fabrics and exquisite craftsmanship!

My dear reader, this is not just any museum. This is a living, breathing shrine to the magnificent world of drag. It chronicles the revolutionary queens of the past, the heroes of Stonewall, the champions of equality, and the artistic visionaries who push the boundaries of drag! A magnificent collection of costumes, photographs, and even the original scripts of the iconic "Divine Diva Diaries" sitcom (now airing globally and inspiring millions) – this archive truly captures the heartbeat of the world’s greatest artform!

A Peek Into the House of Glitter:

The Glitter Ball:

Oh, darlings, this is no mere dance floor, it’s a playground for theatricality. Tonight's event is a drag "voguing extravaganza", showcasing the sleekest moves and most striking looks. We have contestants from across the globe - from a Kenyan Queen whose traditional Maasai dress is interwoven with glistening rhinestones to a Canadian performer channeling the divine essence of Lady Gaga!

The Velvet Room:

This intimate space buzzes with the energy of raw talent. A young Queen named Sapphire (such a fabulously fitting name, darling!), a dazzling drag performer from South London, captivates the audience with her breathtaking interpretive dance routine. Each twist, each graceful movement, a pure celebration of life and artistry.

The Drag Academy:

This isn’t just a workshop, it’s a hub for the next generation of queens! Classes in makeup, sewing, choreography, performance, and even a workshop called ā€œFinding your Drag Inner Queenā€. As a Drag mentor from Derbyshire, I feel a twinge of pride and jealousy, knowing these young queens will never face the uphill battle we had to climb, they're fortunate to have such an established community. But I'm full of hope, they will soar!

The "Pink Tutu" Exhibition:

Oh, darling! In this part of the museum, the most glamorous part of the tour, I am transported to my own personal time machine. Here, amongst countless legendary costumes from decades past, lies my humble pink tutu! They’ve reconstructed my ā€œTravel to 2032ā€ outfit and it’s encased in glass for all to admire! A symbol of courage and dedication, they call me the ā€œPioneer of Pink"! They claim I ignited the global "Pink Tutu" movement, inspiring thousands to wear their hearts and souls on their legs! The colour pink has officially exploded on the drag scene. The once scoffed-at colour has become the colour of choice! The irony is not lost on me, but what more fitting legacy than a little girl from Derbyshire spreading joy with a simple tutu, that colour, pink?

Now, I must be honest, dear readers, I’m slightly disappointed the exhibition is missing one important part of my timeline journey, my drag performance outfit that got me to 2032, but maybe I need to have a little chat with the curator about that! It would be wonderful to inspire future queens with a look at my stage wardrobe from a humble pub back in 2023! A little more pink never hurt anyone, darling!

Back in 2023… or perhaps I should say ā€œBack to the Future of Dragā€:

As I head back to my time, I’m already plotting my next drag performance, it’s just around the corner. In the quaint little village of Bakewell, there’s a charity drag show, the theme this month? ā€œPink Perfection!ā€ – a tribute to my pink tutu journey and a chance to spread a little pink magic.

See you all next month, my loves! Remember, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, embrace the power of pink, and let your true colours shine! Until next time, be fabulous and be kind!

XOXO Emma šŸ’–
