Darling, hello! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling blogger, and today's post is positively bursting with all things glamorous. You won't believe the show I've just witnessed!
This month, my magical pink tutu has whisked me away to the 5th of May, 2040. Honestly, this future is simply dazzling. The world has embraced the power of drag, and everywhere I look, it's just a feast for the eyes! From drag performers strutting their stuff on digital billboards in Tokyo, to an incredible street performance in São Paulo, to even drag brunches in Derby, right here in my beloved Derbyshire, you just can't escape the infectious energy. It's truly wonderful.
But first, my dears, let's delve into a bit of history.
The Future of Drag: A 2040 Odyssey
Now, I'm sure you've heard the rumours, the whispers circulating through time about how drag has reached a glorious new height in the 2040s. Well, let me tell you, those whispers are an understatement! It's beyond any dream I could have ever imagined.
The first thing I noticed was that, truly, everyone is a bit of a drag queen, darling! Men, women, gender-neutral, whatever your flavour, the whole world has a taste for the theatricality of drag! Gone are the days of "boys being boys" and "girls being girls", everyone is just, well, a fabulous, fun-loving expression of themselves. And what better way to do that than through the medium of drag!
It's almost like drag has become the new fashion statement. In fact, at a fashion show in Paris, I spotted an entire collection based on iconic drag outfits! Everything from Lady Gaga's "meat dress" to a homage to Divine's fabulousness. Honestly, my inner fangirl nearly burst with excitement.
The internet is bursting with drag! Every influencer seems to have a drag alter ego. And these aren't just simple lipstick and lashes either, they're full blown transformations. It's almost a way of life! The world is truly obsessed with the magic of makeup, and even mainstream brands have finally acknowledged the power of drag artistry. Every skincare and makeup advert features drag queens! Imagine a world where it's common for men and women to use makeup, not to "cover up" or conform, but to express themselves freely. Isn't that just the dream?
And let's not forget about the performances, darling. This is what it's really all about, isn't it? I just had the most divine experience watching a "drag ball" in New York City. This ball was truly a fusion of street performance and theatrical spectacle. There was such diversity of performance style, and such a focus on individual expression. From spoken word to traditional dance routines, from voguing to even some cheeky satirical commentary on the world around us, this ball was simply electric. It was almost as if drag had reached its highest form, it was just a full and complete embodiment of expression. I even saw a stunningly fabulous robot doing some sassy dance moves! This drag was so diverse it was really something truly wonderful.
There was a huge drag house from Birmingham in the UK there! And I loved seeing these different families within the wider drag community, like some incredible kind of blended family with a bit of spice. It made me really miss my home town, but not in a bad way! As I walked back to my time-traveling tutu after the show, I saw someone else sporting a pink tutu, and we smiled at each other - it was just the most wonderful, empowering feeling, and that is exactly what drag is all about, you see, creating connections.
Drag Around the World:
From London's iconic Drag Strip to a thriving drag scene in Mumbai, there is something going on somewhere, for everyone! Every country is celebrating the vibrant tapestry of drag expression.
In London, the Drag Strip is still the heart and soul of London drag, darling. But there's also a blossoming underground scene, with drag cabaret popping up in unexpected places. The energy is infectious, the shows are diverse, and I think there's a new generation of London drag queens coming up who are simply going to rock the world. I just loved the feeling of how drag can connect people from all corners of the world in a kind of universal language of glitter, expression and entertainment.
And over in Brazil, Rio has truly embraced drag! From beachfront drag shows to parades, everyone was flaunting a little bit of their own fabulous selves! They have a true focus on celebration and community.
Speaking of community, I think this is truly what drag has brought to the world in 2040. The power of drag, in my humble opinion, lies in its ability to celebrate our differences, bring us together through shared joy and laughter, and above all, it’s about celebrating ourselves. It’s about pushing the boundaries, challenging expectations, and inspiring a generation to just be themselves. And how amazing is that, darling?
I feel so inspired by the energy I've experienced this month, I'm almost tempted to move to 2040! And I have to share some tips for all of you fabulous readers!
Emma's Drag Tips for the Modern Era:
* Embrace your inner glitter:* 2040 is all about letting your sparkle shine! Forget what society tells you to be, unleash your inner diva. Be playful, be extravagant, be fabulous!
* Express yourself, unapologetically! * This is the key to a truly joyful drag experience. If you want to wear pink, darling, wear pink! Don't be afraid to be bold, it’s your stage, your chance to shine, so go for it!
Don't be afraid to get loud! Drag isn’t just about fashion, it’s about embracing your voice, expressing yourself, making others laugh, cry or maybe even think a little!
* Celebrate the diversity!* This world of drag is about a fusion of styles, a love of inclusivity. You are never going to find one right style to express your individuality. Explore all kinds of drag to find your own flavour.
Get involved, darling! Attend a drag show, learn how to do a little makeup, have fun! Just experience it. There's no rule book to being a drag queen.
Tutu Time
Now, my lovely dears, before I bid you farewell for now, I’ve got a little secret: 2040 has gone totally tutu mad. Honestly, the entire world is obsessed with pink tutus! You should have seen the rainbow of tutus I saw today. So fabulous!
Don't worry though, darling, I'm on the case to make sure this fabulous tutu trend sweeps back to our present time!
But for now, let's revel in the fact that drag has achieved this level of global domination. The world has truly embraced the magic and the heart of what drag represents: celebrating self-expression, unity and most importantly, the pure joy of fabulousness!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I need a bit of a rest after my time travel antics. You can always find me at the next drag show. Or maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch me strutting my pink tutu somewhere, inspiring everyone to live their most fabulous selves. Until next month, darling!
Stay glamorous, stay fab, and above all, stay true to yourself.
