Hello, darlings! Your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller is back with another thrilling adventure through the dazzling world of Drag History! It's your girl, Emma, and this month Iām whisked away to August 2047! This pink tutu just can't get enough of exploring the fabulousness of drag through the ages, and it's time to share another sensational slice of this colourful journey with you lovely lot!
Hold onto your feather boas, my dears, because August 2047 is overflowing with glamour!
This month, my time-traveling pink tutu took me to a drag extravaganza in bustling Tokyo! Imagine it, darling: neon lights, futuristic architecture, and the sound of laughter mingling with the beat of an infectious techno soundtrack. I was surrounded by an explosion of colour and creativity - the sheer inventiveness of the drag scene here was mind-blowing!
First off, I saw an amazing drag performance by a queen called "Neon Glitch," a master of digital artistry and makeup, their entire act was a beautiful and ever-evolving dance of lights, shadows, and glitter. Imagine a neon cyberpunk meets kawaii style and you're close! Afterwards, I was lucky enough to catch up with the iconic "Glamour Panda," who had become a superstar in Japan's drag scene and a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. Their style? Think bold, vibrant prints and fierce expressions ā absolutely fabulous!
The shopping, dearie! Tokyo was an absolute dream! I fell head-over-heels for their bold street fashion, which is already iconic. Think: Harajuku fashion mixed with contemporary street trends, everything sparkling and colorful ā I just couldnāt resist purchasing several new pink tutu outfits and sparkly accessories. Itās a challenge to wear a tutu in this era but Iāve managed to adapt them into wearable looks by layering with pants, fishnet tights and bold makeup. I picked up an amazing iridescent glitter backpack and several pairs of fabulous shoes at a futuristic-themed vintage boutique - gotta keep those pink tutus twirling!
As I mentioned, Tokyo in August 2047 was buzzing with fabulousness and had me on a total high! What was happening elsewhere? Let's take a trip around the globeā¦
Meanwhile in Londonā¦
Over in the UK, I discovered a hidden gem! In the trendy Camden Town area, a group of drag queens was putting on a historical drag performance called "The Evolution of Drag." I was blown away by the meticulous detail and the captivating performances. It was like watching history come alive, each queen representing a different era of drag - from the Vaudeville performers of the 1920s to the glamorous 1960s drag queens like the legendary Dame Edna, right through to contemporary drag stars, bringing their own distinct styles and aesthetics. They were exploring the fascinating impact that society has had on drag, and how it continues to evolve and shape identity in unexpected ways. Afterward, I grabbed some fish and chips with the lovely performers! It turns out they are also HUGE fans of my blog ā they told me they're always trying out my time-travel tutorials, blending 20th-century drag looks with 21st-century elements. We had a grand old time discussing our love of the colourful and dramatic history of drag! They even gave me a brand new "Queen of Cam" pink tutu inspired by their favourite London fashion moments - I have a new fave!
But, dearie, the news in August 2047 wasnāt all rosy, we also need to speak about drag's strugglesā¦
During my visit, the global news was focusing on a disheartening issue. In a small town in the US, a group of young queens were being harassed and denied a stage space by some very unfortunate intolerant groups. Sadly, drag, like other art forms, faces ongoing struggles, particularly when it comes to discrimination and acceptance. Itās an important reminder that we need to support LGBTQ+ communities, advocate for change, and continue celebrating diversity through dragās stunning beauty.
Moving on⦠Back to my lovely readersā¦
