Post 4287: A Whirl Through Time: March 2018

Oh, darling readers! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where ballet and time travel intertwine like a beautiful pirouette! It’s me, Emma, your bubbly ballerina blogger, ready to whisk you off on another magical journey. This month, we’re travelling back to… well, the present day, actually! March 2018! Yes, my dears, even the here and now is filled with balletic wonders waiting to be explored. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t adore a touch of nostalgia, especially when it’s cloaked in a dreamy pink tutu?

Magic Meg, my faithful steed, a majestic pink Shire horse with gleaming golden hooves and a white mane that cascades like a tulle ribbon, was particularly excited for this jaunt. I swear, her golden hooves sparkled even more brightly than usual. And don't worry, we always wear helmets and safety gear. This isn't about recklessness, it's about respecting the wonders of the past (and the present) while staying safe!

We trotted off on our time-hopping adventure, and boy, oh boy, did we find ourselves amidst a whirlwind of exciting ballet happenings! The month of March in 2018 was brimming with artistry and grace, so buckle up, dear readers, and hold onto your tutus. It’s going to be a whirlwind!

London’s Glittering Ballet Scene

The Royal Opera House in London was a flurry of tutus and top hats. They were celebrating the works of a truly iconic choreographer, a man whose artistry has moved hearts for decades: Sir Frederick Ashton. A celebration of Ashton's masterpiece "La Fille Mal Gardée" was playing to packed audiences. This ballet tells the story of a spirited young girl named Lise, a mischievous and charming country bumpkin, and her journey to love. I’m simply smitten with the playful characters, the captivating narrative, and the abundance of charming steps and leaps – think twinkling jetés and sprightly bourrées. What's more delightful than watching Lise and Colas' whirlwind romance unfold amidst a backdrop of adorable farmyard antics?

New York's Dance Divas

Across the pond in New York, the dance world was ablaze with talent! The American Ballet Theatre (ABT) were enthralling audiences with a captivating performance of Alexei Ratmansky's "Concerto DSCH." This beautiful, dynamic piece blends classical form with a modern flair. Watching the dancers perform with such grace, power, and exquisite control is simply mesmerizing! I can’t wait for the opportunity to see this piece live. Imagine a ballet set to the powerful and enchanting music of Shostakovich… sheer perfection!

Stepping Out Across the Globe

And speaking of enchantment, I just have to tell you about the dazzling ‘Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève’. They were showcasing an original creation from Mauro Bigonzetti’s ‘Vertige’ – a captivating ballet piece inspired by, get this, the poetry of Paul Valéry. Can you imagine, dear readers? Art merging with literature… it just screams creativity and a sense of magical storytelling that had me dreaming in pink!

Shopping and Ballet Inspiration

In March of 2018, the world of ballet fashion was abuzz with exciting developments! I stumbled upon a beautiful new collection from a fabulous designer who had been inspired by ballerinas. I felt so proud to be a part of the dance world when I saw all the pretty pinks and delicate fabrics!

But my trip wasn’t all about looking pretty. I also found an amazing ballet bookstore, tucked away in a charming corner. I can tell you, my rucksack was overflowing with beautiful ballet-themed treasures: a new edition of 'Swan Lake' by Tchaikovsky (you know how much I love that ballet!), a lovely hardback edition of the life of Nijinsky (one of the greatest dancers in the history of ballet) and the most fascinating guide to 'Ballet Fashion in the 19th Century'. Each time I hop on Meg, she helps me return with some fantastic souvenirs to share with you all on Pink-Tutu.com.

The Future of Ballet

As I said, this month's time travel adventure wasn’t about faraway times. I’m very aware of what’s happening in the present ballet world and it's truly exciting. There is an extraordinary sense of vibrancy, new creativity, and bold storytelling. The ballet world today isn’t afraid to push boundaries, experiment with style, and explore unique narrative threads. And it’s truly inspiring, my darlings, especially to this humble ballet-loving blogger!

Tutu Tips for March

And finally, a few tutu tips for your March festivities:

  1. Don't be afraid to add a splash of pink to your outfit, dear readers. The brighter the pink, the better! (That's what I always say)

  2. A full, dreamy tutu can add a touch of whimsy to any event, from a dinner party to a ballet class! But if a full tutu feels too bold, don't worry, there are countless ways to wear a tutu, even incorporating a pink ballerina ribbon to your hair will have you dancing into the month of March.

  3. Get those tickets for the upcoming performances near you, whether it's the Royal Ballet in London, the American Ballet Theatre in New York or a local production at your local community hall. Even visiting a ballet school is a fantastic way to get that ballet magic swirling around you.

  4. Have you ever dreamed of trying ballet? Or perhaps your children are keen to have a go. Then now is the time! March is a magical month for exploring the world of ballet. It's the perfect month to unleash your inner ballerina. Many classes run introduction days where you can have a taste of the magic of ballet.

Remember, darling readers, a little bit of sparkle and pink goes a long way. And let’s spread the love for all things ballet!

See you next month for another time travel escapade! And don't forget, let's keep the pink tutus twirling!

Love,

Emma xx
