Hello, darlings! Emma here, your ever-so-pink ballerina blogger, ready to whisk you away on another fantastical trip through time, all with the aid of my dear Magic Meg, the most glorious pink sparkling shire horse you ever did see. With her golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail, she's a vision of pure enchantment! Today, we're heading back to 10th October, 2018 – a date that holds some wonderful surprises for ballet enthusiasts like myself.
But before we set off, a quick note from the lovely folk at www.pink-tutu.com! Remember, this little pink blog is funded by my very own ballet performances. You can catch me whirling across the stage every other week, spreading joy and glitter through the power of dance! Do pop by for a performance – your support is how we make this time travel happen!
Now, back to our trip!
It’s such a whirlwind – sometimes I can’t believe I’m actually here! But you see, it all starts in my bedroom in Derbyshire, England. With a dash of fairy dust and a hearty “Giddy Up!”, I climb onto Meg's back – her saddle is a delightful shade of pastel pink, of course! We soar through the centuries, arriving just in time to discover the treasures the world of ballet holds on 10th October, 2018.
My rucksack is overflowing – it’s my treasure chest! Today, it's full of programme leaflets, snippets of interviews, and even a stunning photograph of the world-renowned ballerina, Misty Copeland! She’s wearing a magnificent pink tutu that I’m simply dying to replicate! I imagine Meg and I arriving in the present day in our matching tutus, twirling through the streets, bringing a sprinkle of magic to the everyday.
Now, onto the heart of the matter, my fellow dance lovers:
10th October, 2018 – a ballet-filled day!
Imagine, just as Meg and I arrive in 2018, the Royal Ballet was about to kick off its spectacular Autumn season! They were celebrating the 70th birthday of Dame Monica Mason – such a celebrated dancer and director. The Royal Opera House would be overflowing with the best of British ballet – an occasion to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of the world’s greatest ballerinas!
The Bolshoi Theatre was also hosting a series of dazzling performances, their current program focusing on the works of the great Petipa. Their ballet extravaganza promised a journey into the world of classical ballets.
But, of course, the excitement of ballet isn’t restricted to Europe! Across the Atlantic, in the United States, the world was preparing to celebrate National Dance Day on the 19th October! And what’s a celebration without a beautiful pink tutu? It would be just perfect to see everyone in pink tutus across America – I can just imagine the smiles on everyone’s faces!
In this period, it seems, everyone was twirling! Even the American Ballet Theatre in New York were performing the Nutcracker. Every season is always so busy with spectacular ballets and exciting productions, but October 2018 was particularly vibrant – so many dazzling shows for everyone to enjoy!
And you know me, my dear readers – I wouldn’t miss a show for the world! I’ve added it all to my ballet calendar for this trip! After all, I do adore seeing how ballet changes throughout time! What can I say – I am hopelessly in love with this enchanting world. I could talk about its beauty and majesty for days – and I might!
But the real magic of ballet doesn’t stop at the theatre!
Back in my day, in the 1800s, the Victorian Era brought a beautiful evolution of the tutu, my absolute favorite item of dancewear! I imagine it’s been an exciting time for designers, creating beautiful costumes, but that’s just a peek into ballet’s incredible history! It’s so vast and fascinating.
The real beauty of it all is how ballet has always been a global affair, reaching across continents and generations!
Now, you’re likely curious about what the fashion scene was like back in October 2018! Fashion, my darlings, is the very essence of flair and extravagance – like ballet, but you get to wear it! The fall season had brought sparkly colors and romantic details, perfect for every budding ballerina. There were so many lovely skirts with flowing details that resembled the softness of a ballerina's twirling movements. I bet they looked beautiful swirling and pirouetting around, wouldn’t you agree?
It wouldn't be right to finish without sharing my absolute favourite ballet find from my travels:
It's a quote from a talented ballet teacher in the USA - it is a bit long but is my most valuable find for October 2018:
“The passion that ignited a thousand years ago, burns brighter than ever in today’s dancers. Ballet isn’t simply a dance, but an emotion. A journey, not a destination.”
I couldn't have put it better myself!
It's a truly magical, moving thing, ballet! And every journey with Magic Meg leaves me feeling so full of life! I can't wait to tell you about my next time travel escapade – perhaps I'll meet another pink tutu enthusiast in the future!
Remember to keep those tutus twirling, and I’ll catch you all next month! And be sure to check out my next post about all my 2018 ballet discoveries!
Love, Emma xx
