Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 1996-11-08 - A Whirlwind of Pink in the Capital!

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma, your tutu-clad correspondent, and this is Pink Tutu Blog London, a weekly slice of my London life. Today marks our tenth post - how time flies when you’re twirling! This week, I travelled by train from my beautiful Derbyshire countryside home (where the fields are even more lovely with a sprinkling of frost in the air) to the grandest city of all: London! I adore a good train journey. Something about the gentle rocking and the glimpses of the world outside is so conducive to daydreams, which I, of course, weave into dazzling tutus.

Today, I’m filled with the delightful energy of the city. London always welcomes me with open arms (and even more open shops!). From the moment I set foot on the platform, it was like stepping into a real-life stage show. The hustle and bustle of people on the move, the colours, the sound of so many voices… it was enough to make any ballerina want to burst into a pirouette right there and then!

This time, however, I've traded in the station platform for the glamour of The West End, and, of course, some exquisite vintage finds in my favourite shops. My Friday started with a performance in Covent Garden. Oh my dear friends, it was just divine! The stage was lit up like a dream, and the choreography… it made me want to ditch my own tutu and steal theirs! It was ballet magic, just the kind of performance that makes me want to leap into the air and dance all over the world (though I might try and contain my inner ballerina to a less dramatic outburst – though maybe I’ll just do a little twirl on the way out!).

After a delicious lunch at one of the adorable tea shops by the Royal Opera House, I explored the charming, cobblestone streets of Covent Garden, looking for a little inspiration for my wardrobe. My love of all things sparkly was absolutely tickled pink today! From the ornate flower market bursting with color to the trendy vintage clothing stalls bursting with personality, I discovered some fantastic pieces I couldn’t resist. Who can say no to a glamorous sequined top or a beautifully embellished clutch? It’s all about expressing oneself with fashion!

I do love finding new vintage treasures to add to my ever-growing collection. There’s just something special about giving new life to clothes with history. Today I was lucky enough to discover a beautiful pink beaded evening purse, a delicate, vintage floral scarf with the softest touch, and a stunning brocade jacket (in a stunning deep crimson, of course!) I’m practically giddy with excitement to imagine how I'll incorporate them into my London look this weekend!

But my adventures didn’t stop there. The true delight of this trip was seeing “The Nutcracker” at the Royal Opera House! It was a breathtakingly beautiful ballet. The performance was full of the festive spirit, with vibrant costumes, delicate pointe work, and the most magical set I’ve seen in years. It transported me right into the snowy winter wonderland with its shimmering trees, graceful snowflakes, and enchanting dolls. Even the sweets looked tempting!

Let's just say I completely lost myself in the story of the Nutcracker, Clara, and their magical journey! I know this year's holiday season is going to be incredibly magical – and you’ll just have to look out for my Pink Tutu Christmas inspiration. You may even spot a ballerina-inspired gingerbread house! I’m sure the deliciousness is worth the calories!

Before hopping on the train home to Derbyshire, I stopped by Harrods for a spot of afternoon tea, a classic London experience. The decadent spread of finger sandwiches, pastries, and cakes (in the most magnificent tea room imaginable, of course) just couldn't be missed! There’s something about the air of refined luxury at Harrods, and of course, the pink decorations they’ve started putting up for the holidays have gotten me feeling extra festive. You simply must visit if you're ever in London - even if you only have time for a delicious pastry or a look at their window displays. They are always an inspiring piece of artistry.

Today, I felt like a true Londoner – immersed in the buzz, the energy, and of course, the shopping! Even though my visit to the capital was short, it was absolutely filled to the brim with a perfect blend of classic London activities – a fantastic performance, a trip to my favorite stores, and delicious treats in an extraordinary setting! It is all just so… fabulous! I can't wait to share all my adventures from my latest travels with you all.

Remember, darlings, it’s never too late to embrace the joy of dancing! Until next week, take care, be kind, and never forget to twirl with joy!

Love,

Emma
