It's Friday, and you know what that means! It's Pink Tutu Blog London time! This week, I hopped on the train from my lovely Derbyshire home and whisked myself away to the Big Smoke for a whirlwind day of London loveliness. My heart was already thumping with excitement as I boarded the train. It's such a wonderful feeling, being in a carriage, looking out of the window and watching the countryside turn into the hustle and bustle of London life. I think it's even better than that thrill of anticipation you get just before the curtain rises on a new ballet.
The smell of hot chocolate from a street vendor filled the air as I arrived at King's Cross station. It was crisp, crisp November weather, just the kind of weather that makes you want to snuggle into a giant, fluffy pink coat (which I of course, packed! - pink, obviously.) After collecting my bag and checking my phone, I felt like I was starring in a ballet scene of my own: 'Emma, Ballerina, Goes to London'. Only this ballet wouldn't be on a stage, but in the grand setting of the city.
First stop? The glorious Victoria and Albert Museum!
My trip was a bit of a late-start affair, but there's never really any rush on a Friday. London just makes me want to twirl and dance around, taking everything in, a ballerina in my own personal ballet, stopping every now and again to snap a picture for my instagram followers (you can find me @emmathetutu). A day at the Victoria and Albert is like walking into an art book – all intricate costumes, paintings, furniture, and sculptures. I particularly fell in love with a set of vintage fashion sketches – I imagine they could inspire whole collections. If only I had the means!
Lunch Break at a Delightful Delicacy
After taking in a museum-sized dose of inspiration, my tummy started grumbling. I couldn't possibly explore all of London on an empty stomach, so I stopped in for a delightful lunch at this adorable cafe I stumbled across. The walls were covered in floral wallpaper, which matched my tutu (obviously!), and they had the most delicious veggie soup and a dainty fruit tart. The soup was so good, I had to have a second bowl. The cafe had this enchanting vibe, almost like you were sitting in someone’s living room.
Twirling Through The Theatre District
Re-fuelled and ready for more, I hopped on the tube – always a highlight of any London trip – and made my way to the theatre district. My oh my, what an enchanting part of the city! I walked by rows of imposing red brick buildings and sparkling neon signs, all advertising different plays. I even managed to snag a ticket to see "Les Miserables", a must-see if you're a fan of the story. The musical has always held a special place in my heart. Its story of resilience and hope is inspiring, just like a dancer's dedication to her craft.
A Ballet Break and a Pink Purchase
Before heading to the show, I needed my regular ballet fix. It wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Blog London trip without a little ballet! Luckily, I found this enchanting ballet studio near Trafalgar Square. As I was signing in, a dancer just a little older than me in the next room was perfecting an extended piqué turn. Oh, the beautiful lines! The elegance! I think my jaw just dropped to the floor, haha. After that, I indulged in an amazing hour of barre work, stretches, and pirouettes. My teacher said I have amazing footwork! What a confidence boost. Now, I was ready for the theatre.
The 'Les Miserables' show was absolutely amazing! So moving. So powerful! I had a great time humming along to the melodies (always happens during any show I watch. Can't help myself!), twirling around in my seat, and even shed a tear or two during some of the more poignant moments. What a great show! It just adds to the excitement of this incredible day.
After the show, I found this amazing pink tutu shop – of course, I HAD to go in! I know I’ve mentioned it in my previous posts, but you can never have enough tutus, can you? And they all have to be pink. The shop owner was lovely. He gave me this little gift with my purchase: a tiny, pink tiara! And we both agreed that the true measure of a good tutu was if it could "make you feel like a queen, darling!"
My Final Thoughts: A Pink Tutu Paradise
So, my fellow pink tutu enthusiasts, I'm sure you'll agree: a day spent in London, full of art, ballet, music, and oh-so-much pink, makes the perfect Friday! I already know I'll be back again next Friday with another Pink Tutu Blog London adventure for you. Until then, be sure to practice your twirls, stay fabulous, and never, ever, ever forget: the power of the pink tutu!
