Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #115) ?

Hello, my lovely Tutu Tribe! It's Emma here, ready to share my latest London adventure with you. Today's date is the 13th November, 1998, and I'm just back from a whirlwind trip to the big smoke!

As always, I was whisked off to London by train, which is, by far, my favourite way to travel. It gives me time to indulge in a spot of quiet contemplation while looking out of the window at the countryside rolling by. Today, however, my usual quiet journey was anything but. As soon as I boarded the train, a group of little girls in brightly coloured leotards, complete with fluffy pink tutus, scampered down the aisle with excited giggles! You can't help but smile at the sheer joy radiating from these budding ballerinas.

Of course, a chance encounter like that was a wonderful reminder of why I do what I do. Spreading the love for ballet and everything tutus stand for. Because yes, it's about dance, it's about grace, it's about discipline, but it's also about joy, freedom, and expressing yourself, loudly, beautifully and unashamedly. So, in case you needed a little reminder, get your pink tutu on and twirl into the day!

London in Pink

Once I reached the heart of London, my day took on a wonderfully whimsical pace. The iconic red buses with their double-decker charm whizzed me through bustling streets filled with a whirlwind of colour and sound. The air itself seemed alive with the buzz of creativity that London always radiates.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the London scene is all about black, white, and shades of grey - and of course, that classic British sensibility has its place - but to deny the vibrancy and diversity of London's fashion would be a travesty!

This trip was all about embracing colour and injecting a dose of fun into the typical London look. As I made my way down Regent Street, I spotted a delightfully colourful shop window display – an abundance of pink silk scarves and satin gloves perfectly balanced by flashes of teal, violet and ochre, It was like a vibrant ode to the 90s, with just the right touch of retro chic. And let me tell you, I couldn't resist! I snagged myself a divine pink scarf that reminded me of spun sugar, ready to be paired with my favourite pink tulle tutu for a touch of London magic.

Theatrical Treats

London is, of course, a hotbed of theatre, with a kaleidoscope of shows vying for your attention. My Friday, as ever, started with the ballet! I headed to the Royal Opera House to witness a performance of Swan Lake. I can’t believe it’s been over 20 years since the world premiere, but I'm always amazed at how the story still resonates. And of course, the graceful swans in their beautiful costumes, the strength and emotion of the choreography – it all just felt so breathtaking!

I love those big, dramatic ballets. They offer a whirlwind of emotions and stunning choreography. It’s also why I keep going back. A beautiful set and costume, a poignant storyline, it just gives you a night to remember, one you can’t wait to re-live.

Food, Glorious Food!

Of course, London isn't just about beautiful shops and grand performances. No day in this vibrant city would be complete without indulging in its foodie delights. Today, I was determined to try a new lunch spot - and by "determined", I mean I knew precisely where to go. After months of hearing the whispers around town about the newest “place to be seen,” I finally had a chance to visit The Ivy! I felt like I was stepping into a time capsule as I entered. The classic art deco interiors and the quintessential English menu just screamed elegance. And the food? Exquisite, especially those creamy mashed potatoes! And let's be honest, nothing quite complements pink like a beautifully presented plate of food, especially a luscious afternoon tea.

Inspiration in Every Corner

After lunch, I took a leisurely stroll down Oxford Street, a playground of fashion and fun. As I was browsing the latest designer collections, my eye caught a sight that had me skipping down the pavement with glee - a young woman rocking a hot pink tutu and neon green bomber jacket. Talk about a bold statement! This vision was a perfect reminder of how everyone can embrace the magic of tutus, regardless of their age or style.

Every day I see the joy that a tutu can bring. And if I've learned anything in my time with the Pink Tutu Blog, it's that fashion doesn’t have rules, it’s just an expression of your inner self! And just like this sassy woman, I’m on a mission to show the world that fashion is, and can be, just plain fun.

The London air was brimming with inspiration - from the vintage finds on Portobello Road to the street art adorning brick walls. As I wandered, I snapped countless photos, sketching my ideas for my next fashion creations and daydreaming about all the fabulous pink tutu possibilities.

A Tutu-ful End

The sun was dipping low, casting a warm glow on the bustling streets as I boarded my train home. London is always a joy, and even though I have been visiting for several years, it seems that each trip to this incredible city continues to surprise me with all that it has to offer. As the train rumbled through the countryside, I gazed at the rolling hills and fields that shimmered in the golden light, a kaleidoscope of green, orange, and yellow hues.

I spent the rest of the evening journaling about my day. I couldn't wait to share these experiences with you all! I’m already planning my next London trip - I have to find that amazing vintage shop with a collection of stunning evening dresses, because one thing I have learned is that London just has such an incredible range of unique and unusual fashion boutiques, ready to be discovered!

And my Tutu Tribe, if you have a chance to visit, embrace the pink-tinted magic that is London. It’s a city that offers something for everyone. Be bold, be bold, be bold and take those tutus for a twirl!

Until next week!

With Love, Emma
