Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 159 – Friday, 1999-09-17: A London Ballet Odyssey!

Hello, darling tutus! It's Emma here, ready to whisk you off on another whirlwind adventure, this time to the captivating city of London!

I simply adore London, with its cobblestone streets, grand architecture, and endless shopping opportunities – not to mention the phenomenal ballet scene! This Friday, I'm embracing all things London, and of course, keeping it fabulously pink, with a delightful twirl in every step.

After all, what’s a better way to start a day than to leave your Derbyshire worries behind and hop onto a train, embracing the glorious rhythm of the tracks? A little bit of Grease playing softly in my head as I sip on my cappuccino, watching the scenery melt away in a blur of fields and trees. Oh, the magic of travel!

The platform at Kings Cross Station hummed with activity – Londoners and visitors alike rushing about, their lives a whirlwind of deadlines, deadlines, deadlines… But for me, it was a gentle waltz of pink bliss. You see, even a seasoned tutu-lover like myself needs to restock on tulle! And London, my darlings, is the haven of fabulous, the Mecca of frills and feathers.

First on my agenda was the London Coliseum, which was a beautiful journey through the London streets and felt more like an adventurous ballet of its own than simply getting to the show. That pink tutu, it practically glides through the streets of London with such an air of carefree abandon. I’m practically in love with the feeling of tulle against the crisp London air and my love of it all increases even more once I get inside the theatre.

My afternoon began at the Coliseum where I enjoyed a magnificent ballet performance - The Sleeping Beauty. Now, you all know how much I love a classic, and The Sleeping Beauty just does it for me! The elegant costumes, the poignant story, the expressive dancers. Honestly, it brought a tear to my eye at one point – not because of sadness, mind you, but just the sheer beauty and emotion of it all. Oh, to be able to dance with that level of skill! A dream!

As a dedicated ballerina (and dedicated Pink Tutu follower), a visit to The Royal Opera House is always on the list when I’m in town. Today was the perfect opportunity to check out what was happening on stage.

While my love for dance extends far beyond ballet, (I confess to having a serious weakness for tap!), my heart will always belong to the elegance and grace of classical ballet. The beauty of a single pirouette, the exquisite control of a graceful port de bras, the poetry in every movement... It just speaks to me in a way nothing else can!

Of course, no London trip is complete without some indulgent shopping! First up was the exquisite Liberty London, a department store known for its stunning fabrics, eclectic homeware, and luxurious fashion. The whole experience feels almost Victorian, the beautiful building is filled with the magic of a long ago time and it’s easy to slip back into that age, except now we have tutus instead of bustles!

Then it was off to the South Bank, where I couldn't resist browsing the independent boutiques that lined the streets, and a visit to Harrods. I found myself getting utterly absorbed in the display windows, especially the gorgeous ones at Harrods! It’s so beautifully decorated, I felt like I’d stepped into a fairytale! Oh, the beautiful, glittery clothes!

It’s amazing how a city that has seen so much over centuries can still make a girl feel so special and like a part of something beautiful.

My final stop of the evening? The National Gallery. What a fantastic museum to be in! London seems to be the capital of brilliant galleries, they are all absolutely breathtaking!

There was something deeply calming about viewing these incredible works of art. And I’m not going to lie – The Blue Boy practically stole my heart, which is a little difficult to do since I have an already enormous pink tutu shaped hole in there where he found it!

Oh, London! What a fabulous day. I hope you enjoyed reading all about my adventures in this pink wonderland. My love for London is as strong as ever – and my commitment to my pink tutu? Now, that's eternal.

Tune in next week, lovelies! Next week I'm planning a trip to the theatre district, for another enchanting performance! Remember, darlings, even on a Friday night, always leave room for a pink tutu in your life, it makes everything magical.

Yours in pink tulle,

Emma
