Hello darlings! ? It's Friday, and that means it's time for another #PinkTutuBlogLondon post!
This week, I decided to leave the lovely Derbyshire countryside behind and whisk myself off to London for a whirlwind day of dancing, shopping, and exploring. The train journey is always such a delight – especially when you get to gaze out of the window in your favourite pink tutu and sparkly ballet flats. It's amazing how much excitement a bit of pink can bring to any commute!
Speaking of excitement, this Friday in London is particularly buzzing. The Royal Opera House has "The Sleeping Beauty" on tonight, and it's one of my all-time favourite ballets! That glorious Tchaikovsky music just takes me right back to my own ballet classes. I must get a ticket - but first, the shops are calling!
First stop, Oxford Street!
What can I say, I am a bit of a shopaholic! Every time I visit London, I just have to visit Oxford Street, with its glittering shop windows and trendy boutiques. Today, I'm on the lookout for some new additions to my tutu collection. I'm particularly fond of the fluffy pink ones, perfect for twirling around in after a long day of ballet. Of course, no trip to Oxford Street would be complete without a pitstop at the amazing Liberty London. It's a veritable palace of fashion and design – just looking at all the beautiful colours and textures is a joy.
After a few hours browsing, and some very successful purchases, it was time to grab a bite to eat. The smell of freshly-baked pastries and coffee beckoned from a little cafe called The Patisserie, so I tucked into a divine croissant and a creamy latte. I always try to treat myself to something lovely while I'm out exploring – it's the little things, you know?
Taking to the Stage
As the afternoon sun began to cast its warm glow across London, I took the tube over to the South Bank, eager to see the latest performance of the Ballet Rambert company at the prestigious Sadler's Wells theatre. This is the place to be for avant-garde and contemporary ballet. This was my second visit here – I saw a fascinating and rather abstract production by Merce Cunningham last month. These innovative choreographers just inspire me with their boldness. It’s important to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while – just like when you try that extra challenging pirouette in class!
This evening, Ballet Rambert were performing “Second Thoughts,” and I have to say, the energy of the performance left me feeling energized and exhilarated. I particularly loved the bold colours and dynamic movement of the choreography, and the dancers’ amazing athleticism and grace was simply breathtaking. I do love being part of such a vibrant and diverse ballet community, from my ballet classes back in Derbyshire to the cutting-edge shows I get to see in London. It really does nourish the soul.
After a whirlwind evening, it was time for my journey home. I’m so lucky to live near a main line to London – nothing beats winding down after a busy day on a train journey through the picturesque countryside. My day was a perfect blend of culture, fashion, and dancing – exactly the way a true #PinkTutuBlogLondon day should be. I'll definitely be back in the city soon, maybe even for the next "Sleeping Beauty" performance, and who knows, maybe I’ll even get to perform myself in one of those glamorous shows sometime.
